Chapter Thirty-Eight: The Fallen Vajra
As more Decepticons arrived, Wang Jing received images transmitted from an American satellite. Even from the photographs alone, dozens of Decepticons could be seen.
"Prepare the rocket launchers, target ***, ten-round salvo!" As soon as Wang Jing gave the order, hundreds of rockets streaked through the air, trailing white smoke, and shot rapidly toward the gathering point of the Decepticons.
Those Decepticons capable of flight immediately took off to evade the incoming rockets, while those unable to fly could only brace themselves and hope for a quick end as the rockets rained down.
Although the flying Decepticons were quick to escape, they were still too slow against rockets already in their terminal acceleration phase. Some that lagged behind or were simply unlucky were struck mid-air and blown apart into pieces.
The rocket barrage ended swiftly. This wave nearly wiped out all the thin-skinned or slow-moving Decepticons, while even the heavily armored ones did not fare much better. Under the carpet bombing, at least one rocket struck each of them directly. Though not fatal, the powerful shock and explosive force left even the toughest among them half dead.
The lucky ones merely lost the armor on their backs, but the less fortunate were hit directly on their limbs, crippling their combat ability.
The Fallen, who evaded the barrage by teleporting, looked at his already decimated force before the battle had even truly begun. Furious, he cursed them as useless and charged toward Optimus Prime at the base of the pyramid, teleporting repeatedly to change his position during the assault.
Seeing the Fallen rushing toward him, Optimus Prime immediately assumed a battle stance. The electromagnetic cannons on his shoulders powered up at once and fired at the Fallen, but the attack was easily dodged with a teleportation.
Optimus Prime flicked his wrists, deploying the superheated blades on his arms, ready for close combat with the Fallen.
Elsewhere, the other Autobots grabbed their weapons and opened fire at Decepticons in the sky and distance.
Especially after their firepower upgrades, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Jazz wielded electromagnetic cannons of such devastating power that, despite their slow charge and high energy consumption, they could kill a Decepticon with a single shot—making every drawback worth it.
High above, aircraft of every conceivable shape and design soared. With Egypt’s fragile air defense system, the Decepticons had free rein—until Wang Jing transported two S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from the main dimension, turning the tide.
Still, this was not a long-term solution. "Where’s the U.S. air support? Why haven’t they arrived yet?" Wang Jing asked over the comm channel.
As he spoke, a missile struck a nearby transport truck—one that had transformed from a Transformer.
The explosion’s shockwave blasted Wang Jing off his feet. Fortunately, before he hit the ground, he traversed back to the main dimension.
Now Wang Jing was truly enraged. He scrambled to the anti-air missile battery beside the temporary base and teleported it directly to the Transformers’ dimension.
With all the anti-air weapons quickly transported over, the flying Decepticons were forced to the ground. Any that remained airborne were immediately tracked by radar and pursued by three or four anti-air missiles.
But soon, Megatron appeared out of nowhere and destroyed the anti-air batteries. The resulting explosions even impacted the nearby Transformers.
The next moment, Megatron, braving the intense crossfire, landed in front of Wang Jing. "Boy, I’ve had my eye on you for a long time!" he declared, reaching for Wang Jing.
But suddenly, an electromagnetic shell shot forth and pierced Megatron’s outstretched right hand.
The pain made Megatron grit his teeth and glare in the direction of the shot. Seizing the opportunity, Wang Jing hurled a C4 remote explosive onto Megatron’s chest.
Not far away, Bumblebee—having just blasted Megatron—charged at him with full force. Even the Decepticon leader had no choice but to raise his arm in defense against the onslaught.
At that moment, Wang Jing triggered the C4 and instantly returned to the main dimension.
Two seconds later, Wang Lei returned to the Transformers’ dimension to find Megatron clutching a gaping hole in his chest, staggering backward in agony amidst the smoke.
Bumblebee, rushing in, jettisoned all his mounted weapons and flicked out two razor-sharp blades from his wrists.
"Ah, do you really think you alone can defeat me?" Megatron roared furiously at the approaching Bumblebee.
But in the next instant, a 30mm electromagnetic shell tore through Megatron’s cheek, blasting out his red eye.
Megatron screamed, clutching his ruined face. "Damn insect! I’ll kill you!"
He lunged at Wang Jing, but before he could strike, Bumblebee barreled into him, driving a blade deep into Megatron’s shattered eye socket. With a wrench, Bumblebee tore away half of Megatron’s face.
As Bumblebee prepared to strike again, Megatron threw him off and stumbled away, desperate to escape the battlefield.
Bumblebee, tossed aside, immediately scrambled up and tried to pursue, but Megatron, recovering his strength, took to the air and flew off.
Watching his nearly captured prey escape, Bumblebee felt a mix of frustration and disappointment.
Wang Jing stepped over to console him. "You did amazingly well. You tore off half his face—and with your own hands! He’ll never be able to show himself in public again."
Encouraged by Wang Jing’s words, Bumblebee quickly regained his fighting spirit and charged at the remaining Decepticons.
Meanwhile, Optimus Prime, having blocked a teleporting sneak attack from the Fallen, was now locked in fierce combat with him. The two massive steel titans smashed through many ancient structures surrounding the pyramid, leaving the Egyptian government grief-stricken.
After a bout of close quarters fighting, Optimus Prime was clearly at a disadvantage: several teeth knocked out, and the blade on his left hand snapped and embedded in his own arm.
Observing from afar and seeing Optimus Prime struggling, Wang Jing immediately transported Jetfire from the main dimension to assist against the Fallen.
Jetfire arrived on the battlefield, shouting excitedly, "Ha ha! I, Jetfire, am back! Fallen, prepare to die! I’ve had enough of you!" At the sight of Jetfire, the Fallen, who had one foot already on Optimus Prime’s chest, shifted his focus.
"Jetfire, you traitor! I had such high hopes for you, and you betrayed us—revealing the secret of the Matrix! The Decepticons are ashamed of you!" With that, the Fallen charged at him.
Seeing the Fallen take the bait, Jetfire immediately transformed into an SR-71 Blackbird and soared skyward.
But in the next instant, the Fallen teleported above Jetfire and drove a spear through one of his engines.
Jetfire, trailing black smoke, plummeted toward the ground. Just a dozen meters above the earth, he transformed back to robot form, crashed through several stone pillars, and finally came to a halt.
Spitting out a mouthful of blue blood, Jetfire grumbled, "Damn it, I’ve let my body go for too long—it’s all rusted up."
