Chapter Twenty-One: The Death of the Tyrant
“Target has appeared. Shall we proceed with the mission?” The Red Queen, who had just reported the successful recovery of the second-form Tyrant, immediately displayed a satellite image.
“Send the recovered Tyrant to deal with them!” Wesker said coldly.
“The Tyrant’s control chip has not been repaired. We can’t control its actions,” replied the Red Queen.
“It doesn’t need a controller—it will actively eliminate the target.”
“That won’t guarantee the survival rate of the target,” the Red Queen cautioned.
“I don’t need him alive. I only want their genetic samples.”
“Understood. The recovery team is redirecting.”
Having driven over a thousand kilometers across the endless desert, crossing much of the United States, Wang Jing and his companions stopped to make some adjustments, mainly to replace the battery in their off-road vehicle.
Just then, the plane transporting the second-form Tyrant caught up. Before Alice could lock onto the Osprey rotorcraft, she saw the plane drop something and then swiftly veer away.
“Why did it run off? Maybe it’s scared of us!” Li Yiyi said with a laugh.
But seeing the grave expressions on everyone’s faces, a sense of foreboding surged in Li Yiyi’s heart.
“What’s wrong with you all?” Li Yiyi asked anxiously, looking at Wang Jing.
Wang Jing didn’t answer Li Yiyi’s question, but instead said solemnly, “Hurry up and install the battery. Everyone, gather around! Wang Lei, load the 30mm anti-aircraft cannon and prepare to fire!”
With Wang Jing’s command, everyone hurriedly clustered together. Li Yiyi clung tightly to Liu Peiqiang’s arm. “Liu—Liu, what’s going on?”
Just as Liu Peiqiang was about to answer, Alice shouted from outside the car, “Battery’s installed!”
“Everyone get in the car! Liu Peiqiang, don’t drive too fast. Let’s see what was dropped just now,” Wang Jing ordered.
Once everyone was aboard, the off-road vehicle started moving, but only at about sixty miles per hour.
They hadn’t gone far when Li Yiyi, keeping watch behind, suddenly shouted, “It’s coming! It’s catching up!”
Wang Jing looked back. With his helmet visor’s magnification, he saw the second-form Tyrant, covered in black blood, closing in. “Wang Lei, fire!”
“Yes!” In the next moment, the roar of the 30mm anti-aircraft cannon thundered, shaking everyone inside the vehicle.
But when Wang Jing looked behind, the Tyrant was still doggedly pursuing them. As the ringing in their ears faded, Wang Jing heard Wang Lei yelling through the communicator, “I need cover! That Tyrant reacts too fast!”
Before Wang Lei finished, Alice opened the car door, leaned out, and fired her caseless heavy machine gun at the Tyrant’s head.
The Tyrant raised its hand to block the storm of bullets, its tough palm deflecting the 12.7mm rounds with ease.
Though it blocked every shot aimed at its face, the fierce barrage still inflicted pain.
A fresh volley from the 30mm cannon rang out, and its uranium armor-piercing shell easily penetrated the Tyrant’s hardened hand.
But before Wang Lei could celebrate, the Tyrant’s horrifying visage, now half-destroyed, made him curse aloud. “How is this damn thing not dead!”
Wang Jing saw that the Tyrant’s remaining half-face exposed pale bone and nearly spilled white brain tissue.
Then he heard an angry roar emanate from the mangled mouth of the Tyrant.
“Reload!” Alice had emptied her heavy machine gun’s magazine and withdrew to reload.
Seizing the moment, the wounded Tyrant accelerated toward the vehicle. Without suppressive fire, it quickly closed in, but
