Chapter Sixteen: Return

Arriving at the cloning center, Wang Jing found all the Alice clones already gathered together by Liu Peiqiang and the others. Staring at the group of women who looked exactly alike, Wang Jing couldn’t shake a strange feeling, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on what was unsettling him.
He shook his head, dismissing the thought, and walked over to Liu Peiqiang. “Is everyone here?”
Liu Peiqiang nodded. “All present.”
“Prepare to receive these Alice clones!” Wang Jing called out to the air.
On the main plane, Song Guohua, after receiving Wang Jing’s message, immediately had the medical staff—who had long been ready—bring boxes of isolation suits into the quarantine room, there to wait for the arrival of the first batch of Alice clones.
Wang Jing found Alice and asked, “Do you want to go to my world with them?”
Alice shook her head resolutely. “Umbrella Corporation hasn’t been destroyed yet.”
“You really don’t have to stay here all the time,” Wang Jing advised. “After this operation, we’ll be taking a break. You could come live in our world for a while, and we could even custom-make weapons just for you.”
Alice pondered his words for a moment, then finally nodded in agreement.
Seeing Alice agree, Wang Jing smiled. “Then have everyone hold hands. I’ll send you all over.”
“Alright!” Alice responded, then began gathering her clones, lining them up hand in hand, ready for Wang Jing to teleport them to the main plane.
Wang Jing, meanwhile, pulled a wire from a nearby wall. The tritium battery on the exoskeleton suit could barely power himself for a crossing, but to bring others or objects required a stronger, more enduring energy source.
Amid the clones’ panic and curiosity, Wang Jing teleported all the Alice clones to the main plane.
Once there, the clones were immediately labeled by the waiting medical staff, had blood samples drawn, underwent thorough disinfection, were clothed in isolation suits, and then led to quarantine tents specially prepared for them.
Only after all bloodwork was complete and confirmed to be free of the T-virus or any infectious agents would they be allowed to leave quarantine.
After sending off all the clones and Alice, Wang Jing brought the rest of the team back to the corridor outside the laser passage.
“Li Yi-yi, cut the power and remove the Red Queen’s control board,” Wang Jing ordered, weapon at the ready.
“Yes!” Li Yi-yi replied nervously, then skirted around the Red Queen and forcibly shut her down.

The moment the shutdown was completed, all the lights in the base went out. Every locked door, now without power, released its locking mechanism.
And behind those doors, the zombies burst through, charging toward the laser corridor.
Switching on the night vision function in his helmet, Wang Jing said, “Don’t worry about running out of bullets—shoot for all you’re worth!” With that, he was the first to squeeze the trigger of his Gatling gun.
With a staggering fire rate of 6,000 rounds per minute, Wang Jing casually swept his weapon and mowed down all the zombies ahead.
But after only two volleys, the ammo box on his back was empty.
This time, instead of traveling back to reload, Wang Jing changed the ammo box himself.
Just as he finished, Li Yi-yi pulled out the control board. “Wang Jing, I’ve got it!”
“Good, I’ll send you back now!” Wang Jing replied.
At that moment, Li Yi-yi looked at the rows of servers nearby. “What about the data on these machines?”
“Can you remove the hard drives?” Wang Jing asked.
Li Yi-yi examined the cabinets. “I can, but it’ll take time!”
“Forget it then. We’ll come back for them next time.” With that, Wang Jing stepped behind Li Yi-yi, pulled out a wire from the tritium battery pack on her exoskeleton, and with the combined power of two batteries, sent Li Yi-yi back.
Wang Jing then repeated the process to send the others back as well. The rapid decrease in numbers weakened their firepower sharply. When Liu Peiqiang was gone, only Wang Jing and Li Xian remained in the Hive.
Li Xian, wildly firing his Gatling, soon ran out of ammo. “I’m out! The zombies are about to break through!” he shouted.
“Just a moment! Almost ready!” Wang Jing replied, deftly opening the exoskeleton’s battery pack.
Without the cover of heavy fire, a single rifle wasn’t enough to hold back the zombies.
With a click, the rifle’s magazine was empty. The zombies were almost upon them, and there was no time to reload. Acting almost on instinct, Li Xian drew his sidearm and, relying on years of experience, fired—luckily, blowing out the zombie’s brains.
But the zombie, driven by inertia, still lunged at Li Xian. At that critical moment, Wang Jing activated the crossing and brought Li Xian back.
After hours of intense combat, even with the help of the powered exoskeleton, Wang Jing’s legs gave out as soon as he relaxed and he collapsed to the ground.

With the help of staff nearby, Wang Jing removed the powered exoskeleton and was helped out of the quarantine room.
He sat on a chair outside, intending to rest for a while, but at that moment Song Guohua approached, carrying a thick stack of documents. Before Song could speak, Wang Jing cut him off, “Don’t talk yet—let me rest a bit. I’m exhausted!”
“It’s just a few simple questions, it won’t take long,” Song Guohua said, acting as if he hadn’t heard Wang Jing, flipping open the file.
Looking at Wang Jing, who lay in the chair like a dead fish, Song Guohua sighed. “You really need to work on your stamina. Less drinking and bragging with Liu Peiqiang after work. You should spend some time learning how he trains—after all, he did earn the title War Wolf.”
“Ugh, just get to the point!” Wang Jing replied impatiently.
“No problem. First, about those Alice clones—the Strategic Department would like your opinion.”
“Train them. We’ll need their help in the upcoming assault on Umbrella Corporation!”
As Wang Jing spoke, Song Guohua carefully took notes.
“Second, the Weapons and Equipment Department would like your suggestions on armaments.”
“The M134 Vulcan doesn’t have enough ammo—you’re constantly having to swap boxes, and the design is a nightmare for solo reloading. It’s a real hassle! Also, if you could add a crosshair to the helmet display, that would be perfect. Shooting with the helmet on is a pain!”
After a moment’s thought, Wang Jing added, “Upgrade the tritium battery on the exoskeleton to something with more power. Every time I cross, I have to spend a few seconds charging up.”
“Anything else? You can mention more—like exoskeleton protection,” Song Guohua prompted.
Wang Jing considered for a while. “If possible, design a custom exoskeleton for me. Not too many requirements: top priority is defense—it should at least be able to withstand 30mm heavy machine gun rounds.”
“And the battery has to be powerful. As for weapons, if possible, start research into electromagnetic arms as soon as you can. I feel like the age of gunpowder weapons is nearly over—we need something with high power, rapid fire, and large magazine capacity.”
“I’ll be sure to relay all this,” Song Guohua nodded.
