Chapter 146: The Resistance
"Claire, what is the meaning of this?" Psycho also raised his rifle, aiming at Wang Jing as he demanded.
"We meet again, Prophet!"
"Who on earth are you?" The voice, transmitted through the faceplate of the Nanosuit, sounded exceptionally weathered and heavy.
"Let's just say I am not your enemy. Also, you can put your bow down; you know that thing is useless against me," Wang Jing said calmly.
Hearing Wang Jing's words, the Prophet slowly lowered the bow in his hand and asked, "What happened just now? Why did so many containers suddenly appear out of nowhere?"
"It was an accident. I ran into some trouble while transporting supplies to another world, and then I made a crash landing in your world."
"Our world?"
"You're not from Earth?" Claire on the opposite side asked vigilantly.
Wang Jing knew what she was thinking. "Don't let your imagination run wild. I'm not a Ceph. I'm a human, just not a human from your world."
"I know about this—parallel worlds, right?" Psycho chimed in from the side, looking as if he understood completely.
"Precisely. You can understand it that way." Wang Jing nodded, confirming Psycho's statement.
"Then how do you know my name?" the Prophet asked aloud.
"Because, like you, I can foresee the future, though I didn't see it through a neural link with the Ceph hive mind."
"Every time I arrive in a new world, I am able to see the events that will transpire in the future."
With that, Wang Jing looked into the Prophet's eyes, which were covered by the red faceplate, and said, "Just as you saw, the Ceph hive mind is not dead. It is still on Earth, and it has already secretly taken control of CELL's upper management."
"Impossible! The Ceph hive mind was destroyed twenty-four years ago!" Claire retorted.
"No, what he is saying is very likely true. I just detected Ceph energy fluctuations," the Prophet stated.
"Do you expect me to believe your words? Look at yourself—do you even look human anymore?" Claire pointed at the Prophet and said harshly.
"Don't you feel any shame saying that? Right now, he is no different from a walking corpse, but all of this was brought about in order to save the Earth."
"He gave up everything to save the Earth, and what about you? What have you ever done for the planet?" Wang Jing demanded of Claire.
Left speechless by Wang Jing's reprimand, Claire held her tongue for a long time before finally muttering in a low voice, "Our business is not for an outsider like you to judge."
"Thank you for speaking up for me," the Prophet interrupted, cutting off Wang Jing who was about to continue jousting with Claire.
Wang Jing looked at the Prophet, who had lowered his weapon, and said, "The world will never forget what you have done."
"Besides, as long as you acknowledge deep down inside that you are human, no matter what you become, you remain human. If this world abandons you, you are welcome to join our world at any time." Wang Jing timely extended an olive branch.
"Hey, hey, hey! He's one of our people now. You shouldn't try to poach team members so blatantly!" Seeing Wang Jing trying to recruit him, Psycho quickly stepped forward to interrupt.
Just at that moment, an elderly man with graying hair and a frail build walked through the doorway. "What's going on here? Why is it so lively?"
When the old man saw Wang Jing and the cool, high-tech suits of armor standing behind him, he immediately looked at Claire with excitement. "Claire, where did you get these suits of armor? They look amazing!"
"Professor, I didn't bring them here," Claire said flatly.
"Hello, Mr. Rash. I can see that you are quite seriously ill!" Wang Jing stepped forward and addressed Rash.
"Young man, who are you? Is that any way to speak to an elder?" Although he said this, not a trace of displeasure could be detected on Rash's face.
"I know this shouldn't be said during our very first meeting, but have you ever considered what might happen if one day you cross paths with the Ceph hive mind? Aren't you afraid of being controlled by it once again?" Wang Jing stared intently into Rash's eyes as he spoke.
Upon hearing Wang Jing's words, the expression on Rash's face, which had been calm until then, immediately turned grave.
"Who are you?"
Rash's reaction caused everyone around to turn their gazes toward him.
"I am a visitor from another world. You can also think of it as Earth in another parallel universe."
"A parallel world!" Rash looked in astonishment at Wang Jing and the six suits of armor standing behind him, muttering to himself, "This is simply incredible!"
"Aliens are already a reality, so nothing is incredible anymore. If you still want to live, I can help you."
Rash's gaze wandered for a moment before he asked, "How are you going to help me?"
"By taking you to my time. There are no Ceph there. If you are willing, our life-extension technology can even restore you to your youth at the age of twenty," Wang Jing tempted.
Just as Rash was hesitating, Psycho could no longer hold back. He stepped forward, pointed at Wang Jing, and said, "I find you increasingly suspicious. Ever since I met you, you've been trying to poach people. I seriously doubt whether what you just said is even true."
"If you want to know whether what I said is true or not, I can take you to see for yourself." Wang Jing smiled and extended his right hand.
Looking at Wang Jing's outstretched hand, Psycho swallowed hard. After hesitating for a moment, he placed his hand over Wang Jing's right hand and said defiantly, "Fine, let's go! If everything you said turns out to be fake, you'd better watch out—I'll blow your brains out with a single shot!" As he spoke, Psycho raised his sniper rifle in a menacing gesture of warning.
Wang Jing merely smiled. The next instant, the two of them vanished from the spot. Rash and Claire stared in wide-eyed astonishment, while the Prophet, whose entire body was encased in the Nanosuit, left no way to read his thoughts, though he was undoubtedly deeply shocked as well.
After bringing Psycho back to the primary dimension, Wang Jing offered an invitation: "Would you like to have a free medical check-up? Having your skin peeled off by CELL must have caused a lot of damage to your body."
Psycho, on the other hand, was looking around in astonishment at the abruptly changed environment, nodding blankly without actually hearing a word of what Wang Jing had said.
Thus, Wang Jing led Psycho over to the medical pod beside them. Only then did Psycho snap out of his daze, staring at the pod before him and asking, "What is this?"
"A medical pod. It can cure all human diseases, and as long as your head is still intact, it can bring you back from the dead even if you've already perished."
"Is it really that miraculous?" Psycho asked in disbelief.
"It is precisely that miraculous. Hurry up and take off your clothes and lie down; Claire is still waiting for you back there!" Wang Jing urged.
"Alright, fine!" Psycho leaned his sniper rifle against the side and began stripping off his camouflage uniform. Only when he was down to a pair of briefs did Psycho finally lie inside the medical pod.
Looking at Psycho's slightly protruding belly, Wang Jing muttered under his breath, "Time is a butcher's blade."
Wang Jing said this in Chinese, so Psycho did not understand it, though he could certainly guess it was nothing flattering.
