Chapter 140: Studying the Spoils of War and Moving House
Wang Jing located Dr. Grace and her team from the Resident Evil dimension, inviting them to continue their research into Eywa, the planetary consciousness.
After discussing the proposal with her team members, Grace accepted Wang Jing's invitation.
The reason Grace and her team agreed so readily to Wang Jing's request was largely due to the exceptionally favorable living environment provided for them by the United Government.
Aside from Grace, various engineers and skilled talents had also been recruited by the United Government with generous remuneration.
With the addition of these talented individuals, the progress of reverse engineering the neural link devices and antimatter engines was greatly accelerated.
Furthermore, the AMP suits from RDA provided the United Government and major weapon manufacturers with an excellent mecha template.
Especially for the United Government, which firmly believed in the doctrine of firepower supremacy, equipping such a perfect weapon platform as the AMP suit with merely a single heavy rifle was an utter waste.
For the newly established Central Academy of Sciences, the AMP suit was fully capable of carrying much heavier firepower.
For instance, the heavy rifle was replaced with a 12-barrel heavy electromagnetic machine gun. In addition to accommodating ammunition drums on the spacious back, it could also mount cluster rockets to provide fire support and wide-area blanket suppression.
Alternatively, it could be fitted with an 80-millimeter railgun, the kind Wang Jing once used to deal with the Destroyer armor.
However, the professors at the Central Academy of Sciences were extremely dissatisfied with the mecha's control method; limb-synchronous operation, though practical, was inefficient.
Given the technological level of the United Government, control could entirely be achieved via brain consciousness.
The professors at the Central Academy of Sciences had also considered using neural link devices for remote control, but abandoned the idea upon learning that these devices could only link with biological organisms. Moreover, the neural link devices had severe limitations, only allowing control when linked with a body sharing the exact same genetics—which was why RDA had to find Jake to control an Avatar.
Besides Grace and her team, United Government diplomats, with the assistance of the Omaticaya people, were establishing diplomatic ties with other Na'vi clans across Pandora.
At first, upon seeing human diplomats, some clans directly rejected the diplomatic overtures.
Yet the very next day, they agreed to the diplomats' request because that night, Eywa, the planetary consciousness, had appeared to their clan priestess and told her, "Establishing diplomatic relations with the United Government is for the future of Pandora!"
Simultaneously with these diplomatic efforts, a large number of biologists were dispatched to Pandora to collect and study its flora and fauna.
One must remember that Pandora was roughly the same size as Earth. Considering how millions of different species still existed on Earth despite the countless animals driven to extinction by humanity, one could only imagine how many species inhabited Pandora, with its pristine ecology.
Furthermore, these were entirely new species and organisms, a vast number of which could potentially offer inspiration or practical utility to humanity.
However, judging by the current number of biologists, it would take a very long time to even preliminarily identify all the animals on Pandora, making this a long and arduous undertaking.
Aside from this, the most crucial task was the mining of superconducting ore. For this work, the United Government invited workers from the Wandering Earth dimension to handle the excavation.
After all, when it came to subterranean work, if the Wandering Earth dared claim second place, no one else would dare claim first. Their massive underground cities had provided the Wandering Earth construction teams with a wealth of underground operational experience, especially in mining.
One could only guess how much iron ore had to be mined to produce the steel required for those over ten thousand planetary engines.
With the assistance of the construction teams from the Wandering Earth dimension, the progress of underground superconducting ore extraction was extremely swift. Although it lacked the efficiency of RDA's surface strip-mining, its advantage lay in causing zero impact on the surface vegetation and the Na'vi.
While everyone else was busy, Wang Jing lived a life even more leisurely than before. Due to the enhancement of his abilities, whenever he transported supplies across dimensions, he would accumulate a sufficiently large quantity and transmit everything in one go.
However, Wang Jing's comfortable days were soon coming to an end because the temporary base was going to relocate.
When he learned of this news, Wang Jing was still sleeping comfortably in his room until he was abruptly woken up by Song Guohua.
"Wake up!"
Pushed awake from his slumber, Wang Jing asked impatiently, "What is it? Waking me up this early in the morning!"
"Early in the morning, you say? It's almost 9 o'clock, the sun is already shining right on your forehead!" Song Guohua complained.
Faced with Song Guohua's grievance, Wang Jing squinted and asked irritably, "Why did you wake me up?"
"The base is moving, get up and help!"
"Moving!" Hearing those words, Wang Jing's previously drowsy eyes instantly snapped wide open. "Really or fake?"
"Of course it's real!"
"Why so sudden? There wasn't even any prior notice?"
"Well, circumstances have changed."
"What circumstances?" Wang Jing suddenly grew curious. What kind of situation could force the base to make a temporary decision to relocate?
"It's all because your abilities have improved too much, and the supplies you transport every day are so massive that the surrounding roads and transport capacity can no longer keep up. Plus, other countries are putting on the pressure."
"What does the base moving have to do with other countries?" Wang Jing asked, puzzled.
"Of course it matters! The daily throughput you can handle now, if managed well, can match the volume of a major port in a single day. For other countries, that's no small amount of import and export trade."
"But now, due to road constraints, the daily transport volume is no different than before. Don't you think other countries are anxious?" Song Guohua explained.
"Isn't it just a port's worth of cargo? That should be negligible to other countries, shouldn't it?"
"You think other countries are selling potatoes? What they're selling are high-value, high-tech goods."
"Is there really that much demand? And what are you using to pay for them?" Wang Jing asked.
"Rare mineral resources, of course, like gold. That stuff is hard currency in any dimension."
"Does that mean I'll never be able to slack off again?" Wang Jing lamented with a sorrowful expression.
"Stop talking nonsense and get up. The facilities at the new base have been planned for a long time. You just need to sit there and move your hands like you used to."
Under Song Guohua's persistent urging, Wang Jing reluctantly crawled out of bed, walked over to the cafeteria, greeted the cafeteria auntie warmly, and collected the warm breakfast she had specially kept for him.
While eating, Wang Jing asked, "What do I need to help with for the base move?"
"Mostly large equipment, such as Dr. Pym's quantum shuttle, along with various large instruments and experimental samples from the research department."
"Then why not use Dr. Pym's Pym particles to shrink them before moving?" Wang Jing asked, confused.
"Cost-effectiveness, of course. Do you know how much a tiny vial of Pym particles costs to manufacture?"
"How much?" Facing Song Guohua's question, Wang Jing remained nonchalant. In the movies, Dr. Pym used Pym particles as if they were free, growing things large or shrinking them small at will.
"One million dollars. And you have to realize that the larger the object, the more Pym particles are required. If we used Pym particles for the entire move, it would probably cost around one billion dollars."
