Chapter 110: Thor, the God of Thunder

In the deserts of New Mexico, not far from a small town, a massive crater had suddenly appeared. At its very center stood a hammer covered in intricate carvings.
By the time Wang Jing arrived, the villagers from the nearby town had already gathered around the crater. Some had even set up barbecue stalls.
An old man with a white beard drove a pickup truck over and tried to haul the hammer out of the crater, only to tear the entire truck bed off instead.
Just as the villagers were trying every possible method to pull the hammer from the crater, Wang Jing descended beside it in his armor.
His arrival sent the surrounding villagers into a frenzy. After all, Wang Jing was currently an even hotter topic than Iron Man, Tony Stark.
He was a mysterious genius with armor more advanced than Iron Man’s—and judging by appearances, he was also a close friend of Tony Stark.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Wang Jing stepped out of his armor and walked to the hammer at the center of the crater. One of the villagers took a step back, then cautiously asked, “Could I have your autograph?”
Wang Jing glanced at the villager asking for his signature and smiled. “Certainly, but you’ll have to wait a moment.”
With that, he bent down and gripped the handle of Thor’s hammer.
The villagers all turned toward him with curiosity. On a hillside in the distance, meanwhile, Phil Coulson, dressed in a black suit, frowned as he called Nick Fury.
“Director! We found it. But Wang Jing is here too, and he’s very close to the object!” Phil Coulson reported.
“I understand. Observe for now. Report immediately if anything seems wrong. And if you get the chance, make more contact with him. Try to bring him over to our side.”
“Yes, Director!”
Coulson hung up, climbed back into his SUV, and drove toward the crater below.
Wang Jing, still gripping Thor’s hammer, slowly began to exert force. Just as he had expected, the hammer did not move in the slightest.
Unwilling to give up, Wang Jing increased his strength, but the result was the same. As the people around him began murmuring among themselves, Wang Jing held the hammer’s handle and activated his power to travel between worlds.
What Wang Jing had not expected was that he would actually be able to bring Thor’s hammer back to the main universe. He still could not lift it, however.
In the Marvel universe, everyone who had witnessed Wang Jing vanish without warning took several steps backward in shock.
Phil Coulson, who had just arrived, hurriedly pulled out his phone and reported what had happened to Nick Fury.
“You’re saying he simply disappeared?” Nick Fury asked in surprise.
“Yes, Director—and he disappeared together with the hammer!” Coulson added.

“Stay where you are. Reinforcements will arrive shortly.”
“Yes, Director!”
In Asgard, the All-Father Odin had entered the Odinsleep. The moment he sensed that Thor’s hammer had disappeared, he opened his eyes.
Using his divine power, he examined the place where Mjolnir had fallen. Then, after glancing at his foolish son—who had been tied to a bed and treated as a madman—Odin went in search of the Ancient One, who was meditating in stillness.
The moment Odin entered the Ancient One’s chamber, he heard her speak calmly.
“I know why you have come. The one who took your hammer is not from this universe. He comes from another universe, and he has dealings with yet others.”
As she spoke, the Ancient One opened her eyes and looked at Odin in his golden armor.
“He may represent an opportunity for your people—a chance for Asgard to preserve its strength after Ragnarok.”
“But he has taken Mjolnir, and I know nothing about him,” Odin said with a frown.
“Spend more time with him, and you will come to understand him. Besides, it appears that he is also preparing for the disasters to come. Perhaps he truly will be able to change the outcome of the future.”
“You have seen a different future?” Odin asked excitedly.
The Ancient One gently shook her head. “The Time Stone can no longer see the future.”
“How can that be?” Odin asked in astonishment.
The Time Stone was one of the six Infinity Stones, a supreme treasure born alongside the universe itself. How could it possibly have stopped working?
“The Time Stone can only see what happens within our own universe. That man does not belong to this world, so what will happen in the future is impossible to predict.”
“Then why are you so certain that he will be an opportunity for Asgard to preserve its strength?” Odin questioned.
“Build a good relationship with him. When the time comes, he will be able to take your people away from this world—including your two children.”
The Ancient One looked at Odin with profound meaning.
Just as Odin was about to speak, he suddenly sensed the magical incantations upon Mjolnir, as well as the bond they had created with him.
“Look. He has returned.”
The Ancient One smiled.
“I hope you are right.”
With that, Odin vanished from the chamber.
Inside the crater, Wang Jing had returned. He helplessly glanced at the hammer in his hand. Even though he could bring it back to the main universe, he still could not lift it. The hammer remained exactly as immovable as before.

Wang Jing’s sudden reappearance startled the villagers gathered around the crater.
“Mr. Wang, where did you go just now?” asked the white-bearded old man.
Wang Jing smiled mysteriously. “That’s a secret. I can’t tell you yet.”
At that moment, Phil Coulson called Wang Jing’s name from behind the crowd and pushed his way through.
“Mr. Wang Jing, please wait!”
“Well, if it isn’t Agent Coulson! How has Fury made up his mind?” Wang Jing teased.
Coulson wore his trademark smile. “The director has realized the gravity of his mistake and reflected deeply upon it. He hopes you won’t take what happened before to heart.”
Wang Jing smiled and nodded. “Heh. I know you made all that up yourself, but I’ll give your director a chance, considering how hard you’re trying. If his actions satisfy me, I’ll join your Avengers Initiative.”
Coulson was startled that Wang Jing knew about the Avengers Initiative, but Wang Jing’s next words immediately sharpened his attention.
“If he fails to satisfy me, then don’t expect my help if anything happens in the future. And here’s some advice in advance: don’t try to pressure me with grand talk about saving the world. If Earth is destroyed, I can simply go to another planet. There are plenty of habitable planets in the galaxy. Earth isn’t the only one.”
With that, Wang Jing climbed into his armor and shot into the sky, leaving Phil Coulson staring after him in utter astonishment.
After leaving the crater, Wang Jing returned to the main universe and hurried straight to Jiang Ning, who was in the laboratory.
The moment he pushed open the laboratory door, Wang Jing said, “I need a weapon with immense destructive power against a single target!”
Jiang Ning, who was standing with the Vanko father and son around a relatively crude suit of armor, raised her head and looked at him.
“How much power do you need?”
“The more, the better. Ideally, one shot should be enough to blow up an aircraft carrier.”
Jiang Ning thought for a moment. “I don’t have anything that can destroy an aircraft carrier in a single shot, but sinking one with several dozen rounds shouldn’t be a problem.”
“What kind of weapon?” Wang Jing asked curiously.
After all, his remark about destroying an aircraft carrier with one shot had merely been an impulsive boast. He had never expected that they might actually possess something close to it.
