Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Indestructible Wheel of Yin and Yang
After Yang Nan had collected the Black Serpent Martial Spirit, Buxu wasted no words. She simply uttered a brief explanation and then used her supernatural powers to condense the secret of the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel into a ball of light, which she cast into Yang Nan’s brow. As soon as Yang Nan received this sphere of light, he felt a whole new method appear in his mind, every word and phrase clearly imprinted and unmistakable.
Buxu spoke in a low voice, “You must remember, only after you have cultivated the first level of the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel to perfection can you use it to absorb the spiritual power from the Xuan Flame Sword. Be extremely cautious when drawing in the energy; the sword still holds the soul imprint of its former master. If you are unfamiliar with the Martial Sect’s ways and disturb that imprint, the backlash could burn us alive, body and soul!”
Yang Nan shivered inwardly at this warning. He realized the world within the Xuan Flame Sword was perilous indeed. With solemn resolve, he nodded and turned his attention to this secret art of the Kunlun Martial Sect.
The Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel, as its name suggests, is a method for transforming yin and yang, changing spiritual power. In its early stages, it can only convert and draw in foreign spiritual energies; but if cultivated to its peak, it bestows a terrifying divine power—the harmonization of yin and yang to forge an immortal body!
When the Yin Wheel absorbs, the Yang Wheel resolves; when the Yang Wheel absorbs, the Yin Wheel resolves—the transformation is wondrous and limitless. In terms of magical powers, either the Yin or Yang Wheel alone can draw in all the spiritual energy of heaven and earth for one’s own use, or transform it into any other type using the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel. It is truly a supreme and miraculous art, worthy of being called a masterpiece of creation!
Heaven and earth are divided into yin and yang. Ordinary people naturally possess either yin or yang energy within them, and among the seven kinds of spiritual energy in the world, only those born with more than one spiritual root are eligible to cultivate the Way.
Yin and yang are the ancestors of heavenly energy; this scroll of the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel uses the human body as a cauldron, refining it to the state where yin and yang merge and immortality is achieved.
Once the Immortal Yin Wheel is formed, one can draw all the world’s spiritual power into oneself, or transform one’s own energy into any type as needed—an extraordinary feat!
Only after coming to this world did Yang Nan realize that immortals are far fewer than legend suggests. Ordinary cultivators live no longer than a hundred years; the higher their rank, the more their lifespan merely doubles. Even sages can live at most a thousand years. True immortality is only possible by attaining the Way of Immortality!
Only immortals are truly undying!
But how difficult is it to become immortal? Even spirits, monsters, and ghosts that live for thousands or tens of thousands of years eventually fade away, let alone mortals who live barely a century. What people call Nascent Soul or Golden Core does not exist here—becoming immortal means shedding the mortal shell and forging a divine body. The Martial Sect uses weapons to cultivate energy and body; the Dao Sect trains energy into the body similarly. The other sects—Artifact, Talisman, Formation—are not much different.
The so-called Great Way has three thousand paths. No matter demon, ghost, monster, or man, transformation is never easy!
There are indeed ways to become immortal, but these are secrets held closely by the great sects. To obtain one, unless you are incredibly fortunate and gifted, is but a fool’s dream.
The best methods taught by ordinary sects are only of the Master level; first-rate sects may have Supreme or Saint-level arts. Only the super sects possess true methods to become immortal and holy.
With a supreme secret art and dedicated cultivation, the path to immortality is no longer mere fantasy! Thus, a miraculous method surpasses all else.
This scroll of the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel can forge an undying holy body. Though it does not guarantee transcendence to immortality, it is indeed a method for longevity—truly a supreme secret!
The reason Buxu handed this art to Yang Nan so easily was simple. First, she needed Yang Nan’s Yin Martial Aspect to form the Yin Wheel and help heal her injuries. Second, without the Yang Wheel, the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel can never reach its peak in his lifetime!
Unless Yang Nan one day becomes a true disciple of the Kunlun Sect and finds a master skilled in the Yang Wheel, this art will be little more than a rare method for him, allowing him only to transform spiritual energy at will.
Having reasoned all this out, Yang Nan found himself growing quietly wary of Buxu. Despite her current appearance of frailty, her cunning was second to none. Should he ever cross her, he might not even know how he died!
Buxu offered Yang Nan many benefits solely to bind him to her cause. If her healing failed, she could reclaim everything in an instant. If she turned hostile, who on this ship could stand against her?
For now, his only prudent choice was to do all he could to aid her recovery.
Following the method in the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel, Yang Nan activated the Yin Wheel secret. Only those possessing the Yin Martial Aspect could cultivate this; as soon as he began, the Black Serpent Martial Spirit in his palm seemed to come alive, turning into a streak of black light that flew into the center of his brow.
The Black Serpent Martial Spirit moved within his spiritual aperture like a living creature, absorbing the omnipresent spiritual energy of heaven and earth. Under the guidance of his method, the Black Serpent spat out a tiny phantom, within which appeared a round orb of light—this eternally spinning sphere was the Yin Wheel of the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel. The Yin Wheel, like an egg nurturing the Black Serpent, was continually refined and absorbed. When the Black Serpent’s scales and body were fully formed within the black orb, the first layer would be complete.
The Wang family’s fleet stayed at De River dock for several days before setting sail again. Yang Nan ignored all else, immersing himself entirely in cultivating the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel. Under the endless nourishment of spiritual energy, the black scales of the serpent in his brow’s aperture gradually grew, piece by piece. With each breath of energy, the Black Serpent would emit a wisp of black aura from its mouth to its tail, then back from tail to head, and finally into the Yin Wheel—a ceaseless cycle, round and round.
This Yin Wheel cultivated far faster than the Xuan Yi True Water Method. In just ten days, the Black Serpent in the Yin Wheel had its claws and fangs complete, each black scale gleaming—perfection was near!
During these days, Buxu merely sat in meditation, seemingly confident in Yang Nan’s eventual success, showing no impatience.
A few days later, Yang Nan felt his brow’s aperture throb. Through the relentless refinement of the Black Serpent Martial Spirit, the serpent became fully alive. Powerful spiritual energy filled his mind, surging from his brow to his nose and mouth. Unable to contain it, Yang Nan threw his head back and let out a clear, resounding cry that echoed for miles around, startling the entire ship!
The black Yin Wheel danced gently about Yang Nan, a tiny point of radiance that seemed to harbor boundless, mysterious yin energy, like a bottomless abyss that made one’s heart quail.
Now, the Yin-Eroding Martial Spirit had become the weapon’s body, while the Immortal Yin Wheel was its soul. With the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel as its soul, only true disciples of Kunlun could hope for such fortune in this world!
The weapon’s body might be destroyed, but the weapon’s soul endured. As long as the Immortal Yin Wheel survived, Yang Nan’s natal martial spirit would never perish.
He raised his palm; the Immortal Yin Wheel obediently settled onto his hand, then sank back into his brow at his will.
Buxu opened her eyes and smiled. “Not bad. In just half a month, you have mastered the first layer of the Immortal Yin Wheel. Your talent is truly remarkable.”
Though she seemed to praise him, she showed no surprise at all. Yang Nan rose, his usual clear eyes now deeper, like black gemstones glinting with light. Hearing Buxu’s words, he bowed and said, “Fairy Sister, shall we attempt the art of harmonizing yin and yang next?”
The harmonization of yin and yang was an important divine power within the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel. This technique was typically practiced by master and disciple pairs. Every true disciple of Kunlun learned a unique, peerless art—such as the Wind-Fire Wheel, Mirror of Moon and Wind, Miaoji Method, or the Formless True Law. Each disciple had only one master, and each master only one disciple; unless one died, there would never be a third person between them.
Such strict rules existed because of the profound synergy between these paired arts.
No matter the method, there was always a complementary effect for master and disciple of matching attributes. Separately, each could cultivate independently; together, they could enhance each other’s power. Yin, yang, metal, wood, water, fire, and earth—seven attributes, each with their cycles of reinforcement and restraint. Cultivating a harmonious art allowed two to combine their strength, achieving feats impossible alone!
The method of harmonizing yin and yang was only an elementary technique within the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel. All Yang Nan needed to do now was draw spiritual power from outside to provide for the Yin Wheel, which would then pass it to Buxu. Buxu cultivated the Yang Wheel; with her power in chaos and her strength wounded, she could only use Yang Nan as a bridge. Yang Nan would convert the foreign power from the Xuan Flame Sword into yin energy with the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel, then transmit it to Buxu, who would use her Yang Wheel to transform it into potent healing energy.
The wonders within such a process were beyond words.
Buxu had been waiting for this very moment. She sat before the bed, closed her eyes, and summoned her Yang Wheel—a small golden dragon that spun around her head. Yang Nan didn’t dare delay; he opened the jade box containing the Xuan Flame Sword and summoned the Black Serpent Martial Spirit from his brow to release the Yin Wheel.
The summoned Yin Wheel felt like his very soul—his senses expanded, and it seemed he could perceive everything in the room. The Yin Wheel was not only his eyes and hands, but the very seat of his soul.
The Yin and Yang Wheels came together like lovers long separated, instantly entwining. The golden dragon and black serpent wound about one another twice before splitting and merging into a single ring, gold and black interwoven. If Yang Nan’s Black Serpent power was a small pool, Buxu’s golden dragon power was as vast as the sea. Tense at first, Yang Nan was overjoyed as the two wheels truly merged, and began to draw the power sealed within the Xuan Flame Sword.
Casting aside all distractions, Yang Nan and Buxu became attuned as one, jointly driving the fused Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel into the Xuan Flame Sword.
At that moment, the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel replaced Yang Nan’s senses, and he felt as though he had plunged into a hell of demonic flames—waves of unbearable heat that threatened even his very soul.
Everywhere was fire, molten lava, and raging flames—an ocean of wild fire energy, more vast and violent than any earthly sea.
Sensing Yang Nan’s shock through the Yang Wheel, Buxu gently trembled the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel. Yang Nan immediately regained his composure, focused his mind, and urged the Yin Wheel’s chilling power to protect the fused wheel, devoting himself to absorbing the wild fire energy.
The Yin Wheel, by its nature, could convert yin and yang. The Black Serpent’s mouth opened, and it swallowed the fiery energy from the sword like a whale drinking from the sea. After a circuit within its body, the energy was transformed into yin, then spat into the golden dragon’s mouth. Instantly, the dragon converted the yin into yang, swallowing it down. One dragon, one serpent—one exhaling, one inhaling—forming a continuous, endless cycle.
Yang Nan concentrated solely on drawing in the boundless fire energy, unaware of the passage of time. Only when the yin energy of the Black Serpent weakened and could no longer restrain the wild, violent fire did he stop. Buxu, sensing his limit, also ceased. Their minds in perfect accord, they withdrew the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel from the Xuan Flame Sword together.
Absorbing the energy was not the final step. The last phase of the harmonization was to send the Immortal Yin-Yang Wheel into Buxu’s spiritual aperture, releasing the energy and using the power of yin and yang to restore Buxu’s damaged meridians.
This time, Buxu took the lead. The Black Serpent and Golden Dragon separated, re-forming into two linked circles, and together entered her brow’s spiritual aperture.
Through the Black Serpent Yin Wheel, Yang Nan could finally sense the severity of Buxu’s injuries.
