Chapter Five: Vajra Temple

Ling Beast Mountain connects to the Eastern Sea. After several hours of flight, the Golden-Top Roc suddenly found the scene before Yang Nan empty. A vast, undulating sea stretched endlessly ahead, with waves rolling ceaselessly. As far as the eye could see, sea and sky merged into one, refreshing the spirit and invigorating the mind.
This journey had indeed been peaceful within thousands of miles—no sign of people or beasts in distress, not a single monster in sight. Yang Nan praised Old Crab greatly for this.
Upon reaching the sea surface, however, great waves surged violently. Occasionally, cultivators would release their magical treasures to battle sea monsters. The cultivators fought ruthlessly, the monsters mercilessly. On the Eastern Sea, lights of fleeing cultivators streaked across the sky from time to time. Groups of cultivators and monsters clashed, creating scenes of chaotic turmoil.
Dragon Roar Island was a deserted islet, located some ten thousand miles from Jade Pure Peak. As Old Crab guided the Golden-Top Roc in flight, he said to Yang Nan riding on the Roc’s back, “Young master, there are many sea monsters here. They rarely surface, but lately they have been coming out to harm people, growing increasingly rampant. I’ve caught countless little monsters and thrown them to Old Goldfish.”
Old Crab could control the mountain monsters, but the sea was under the domain of the Dragon God, Sea Earl. He could not interfere with such sea demons, only impose light punishments at best. Even if he wished to intervene, it was beyond his reach.
Yang Nan nodded. “The world is in chaos, the heavenly laws broken. No wonder they roam freely. As long as they don’t block our path, we needn’t concern ourselves with them.”
Once out of Ling Beast Mountain, Yang Nan cared little for their fights as long as they didn’t provoke him.
The two chatted and laughed as the Golden-Top Roc flew swiftly without rest, traveling a whole day and night until finally arriving at the Dragon Roar Island mentioned by Old Crab.
This island resembled a dragon’s head, with several towering peaks standing like a dragon’s jaws. Yang Nan saw the island’s spiritual energy was abundant, with two streams of clear energy soaring straight to the sky. He immediately knew Old Crab was right—there truly were two spiritual springs on the island.
Such a spiritual vein was called the Dragon Eye Spring, a minor branch of the Kunlun Ancestral Dragon’s earth energy. Although the spiritual energy here was moderate, it was still rare and precious. Overjoyed, Yang Nan urged the Roc to fly into the peaks and observed the energy above the springs.
Suddenly, Old Crab shouted, “Young master, why are all my children dead?”
Yang Nan was startled and looked closely. Beneath the Dragon’s Mouth Peak, in front of the two nearby springs, stood a group of people. Scattered on the ground were more than a dozen loyal guards’ corpses, many of whom had their demon cores extracted and even their skins stripped off.
Old Crab roared furiously, “What thieves dare harm my children? If I don’t flay you alive, how can I repay my loyal ones?”
Hearing Old Crab’s roar, the group looked up to see a fierce Golden-Top Roc descending from midair. They immediately drew their magical treasures and prepared for battle.
Yang Nan landed coldly, his expression icy. Naturally, he only took from others, but today someone dared to rob his spiritual springs and killed more than a dozen loyal followers. Was this not a case of robbers being robbed?
Furious at the death of his loyal guards, Yang Nan resolved that no matter the cultivators’ reasons, they would have to leave only after leaving their lives behind.
Old Crab landed and brandished his Jiaolong Hook, shouting, “You bald-headed thieves, why kill my men? Speak clearly today, or you won’t leave alive!”
The group wore monk robes, shaved heads, and held meditation staffs—obviously disciples of the Buddhist sect. An elder monk, apparently their leader, stepped forward and clasped his hands in greeting. “Amitabha, elder monk Duoyuan here. Fellow cultivator, what sect do you belong to that you consort with these monsters?”
Yang Nan sneered and pointed to the dead guards. “Is this the conduct of Buddhist disciples? Killing monsters for their cores, stripping their skins—thieves are no better than robbers.”

These so-called Buddhist disciples were just as ruthless as other sect cultivators—where was the compassion?
Elder monk Duoyuan lowered his brows with a faint smile, his face filled with compassion. “Buddha also has the Vajra Lion’s Roar. Exorcising demons and monsters is the duty of monks. All evil creatures in the world deserve to be exterminated! Since you stand for monsters, elder monk must offend you.”
Knowing Yang Nan came with ill intent, he showed no courtesy. More than ten monks took up their Buddhist beads and seals, softly chanting sutras.
Seeing they numbered over ten, with six at the grandmaster level, Yang Nan had a thought. From the Jiangshan Ring emerged Chi Yang, Die Yi, and other women, along with two thousand demon soldiers.
Elder monk Duoyuan sighed softly after seeing Yang Nan summon many demon soldiers. “Consorting with demons is unforgivable. Today, this poor monk will slay demons and eradicate evil.”
Yang Nan saw his hatred for monsters was fierce and sneered, “The Buddhist sect embraces all, yet even monsters are divided into good and bad. Master, if you kill indiscriminately, how can you still be a Buddhist disciple?”
Duoyuan laughed. “A demon is a demon, a devil a devil—no good or bad. Kill those you see, that is the righteous path! You wretch, come and give your life!”
He formed a Buddhist seal and a wheel of Udumbara beads suddenly shone brightly, transforming into an angry Vajra with blazing eyes, wielding a demon-subduing mace, lunging at Yang Nan.
This Vajra seemed like a deity descending to earth, majestic and awe-inspiring, with its mace radiating deadly energy.
Yang Nan smiled coldly. By now, he no longer feared grandmasters. He didn’t even summon his life-bound magical weapon, simply wielding the Blue Blood Sword. After being refined by water elemental power, its divine power surged, instantly transforming into a blue dragon that met the angry Vajra head-on.
Beside him, Old Crab could no longer restrain himself and released his Divine General and Blood Corpse talismans. A divine general of imposing presence and a Nine Heavens Blood Corpse surged with blood energy. Holding his Jiaolong Hook, Old Crab let out a fierce roar and charged at the monks.
The monks saw Old Crab’s ferocity and two grandmasters appeared, manifesting the Vajra of Majesty and the Vajra of the Sacred Wheel to confront the divine general and the blood corpse.
Die Yi, Bai Yi, and Fang Qingyan displayed their magical artifacts to assist in the fight, while the two thousand demon soldiers formed a meteor array, fiercely assaulting the six monks.
Yang Nan lightly waved his hand, and with the Unextinguishable Yin Wheel activated, a dragon and serpent intertwined, forming a black snake magical weapon that landed in his hand. Now, Yang Nan’s internal power was vastly different from before. Once infused, the black snake weapon transformed like an ancient evil dragon descending, brimming with fierce and intense killing energy. A dense shadow cloud engulfed the sky, darkening the heavens.
Elder monk Duoyuan was shocked by the sharpness of Yang Nan’s weapon and prepared to retreat. Just then, Yang Nan’s weapon unleashed a fierce aura, suddenly transforming into a giant weapon several yards long, cleaving the angry Vajra in two with a single stroke.
Though severed, the Vajra dissolved into scattered Buddhist beads on the ground. Duoyuan lowered his brows with a cold smile. “So you belong to the Weapon Sect—no wonder your blade is hard to match.”
He took several steps back and commanded the monks, “Form the Six-Wheel Vajra Formation!”
Six Vajras swelled in the wind, encircling and embracing each other in the air. As their Buddhist light merged, they suddenly fused into one.
A giant golden Buddha stood in the air, hands clasped in a flower-picking gesture, smiling faintly. Its presence was grand and vast, imbued with boundless spiritual power. The light was far-reaching, endless, seemingly filled with infinite Buddha’s will. The shadow clouds above were instantly dispelled by the Buddha’s radiance, leaving a clear sky.
“Vajra Temple?” Yang Nan instantly recognized the formation’s origin. No wonder the monks were so fierce toward monsters. The Vajra Temple had been breached centuries ago by the Demon Sage Feiyu, with many monks slain. Though rebuilt later, the monks bore a deep hatred for monsters, slaying them mercilessly.

Once the Great Sun Buddha was formed, its might was unparalleled for a time. Chi Yang’s Fire Sun Divine Weapon, the Golden-Top Roc’s Cloud Piercing Spear, Old Crab’s Divine General, and the Blood Corpse launched multiple attacks, all repelled by the Buddha’s light. The Buddha’s aura enveloped heaven and earth, its power vast and ceaseless, a bane to the Blood Corpse, suppressing both demon energy and blood force. After several fierce attacks, all were repelled.
Seeing this formation was difficult to overcome, Old Crab withdrew his Divine General and Nine Heavens Blood Corpse, taking the demon soldiers to hunt down the remaining monks. With two powerful talismans and his cultivated grandmaster rank, the remaining monks stood no chance. Die Yi and the other women seized the opportunity to unleash their magical treasures. Within a short time, a dozen Vajra Temple novices lay dead, their bodies torn open by Old Crab’s Jiaolong Hook.
Elder monk Duoyuan was furious, but with Yang Nan wielding his divine weapon and binding the golden Buddha’s body with countless black threads, joining forces with the Golden-Top Roc and Chi Yang to slash the Great Sun Buddha, he could only barely defend himself, unable to save his disciples.
Chi Yang bore no goodwill toward the monks either. After prolonged combat, he suddenly shouted fiercely. Flames three yards high surged from his sword, transforming into a soft, long whip that tightly bound the Buddha’s left hand. The Golden-Top Roc skillfully released thousands of feathers to encase the Buddha. The Buddha was caught between wind and fire attacks, struggling to respond. At this moment, Yang Nan flipped his palm, summoning a purple thunderbolt from the sky. It carried the breath of destruction, shaking the Buddha’s golden light wildly.
This thunderbolt came from Yang Nan’s Demon Valley Thunder Order, capable of releasing seven destructive thunderbolts. Even grandmaster-level demons could be wiped out by all seven. Yang Nan unleashed three thunderbolts in succession. The six elder monks could no longer withstand their devastating power, loosening their seals, still transforming into six Vajras.
Seeing the Thunder Order break the Vajra formation, Yang Nan rejoiced. His black snake weapon transformed into a dark shroud enveloping one Vajra, twisting it until the Buddha’s light vanished and it dissolved into nothingness. Once separated, the six Vajras were only grandmaster-level, no longer as imposing as before. Together with Chi Yang and the Golden-Top Roc, Yang Nan soon scattered the six Vajras.
With their formation broken, Duoyuan and his five brothers suffered great power loss. Just as they tried to escape, Yang Nan laughed and transformed his weapon into a long ribbon, binding the six monks.
None of the other monks were caught, so Yang Nan stopped and released his supreme demon form. Chi Yang laughed, “I haven’t even unleashed my Border Pegasus Order, yet these monks were already captured. Today, your divine power and magical treasures are truly formidable, Ah Nan.”
Yang Nan smiled. “You flatter me, big brother. These are only grandmaster-level monks. If a few grandmasters showed up, we’d be running for our lives.” At this moment, Old Crab, Chi Yang, and the Golden-Top Roc were all grandmasters, and with Yang Nan’s numerous treasures, there was no fear of six junior grandmaster monks.
Old Crab looked at the badly slain demon soldiers and angrily asked, “Young master, what shall we do with these six monks?”
These monks were ruthless and must not be spared, or they would bring endless trouble. Yang Nan pondered and said, “Kill a few now, but if we let them go, they’ll become enemies in the future. I’ll use them to test the Mysterious Nether Yin Sha Formation.”
This Yin Sha Formation was extremely sinister. After refining a magical artifact, it could trap a person’s soul upon it, forging a powerful Yin spirit to counter enemies with immense power. Yang Nan saw potential in these six grandmasters to form a grandmaster-level Yin spirit, so he conceived the idea.
He gathered the six leftover Buddhist beads and meditation staffs left by Elder Duoyuan. From the Upper Yuan spiritual cavity, he exhaled a stream of Yin fire, surrounding the six artifacts. Using the True Fire Heart Refining Method, he began refining them. These were no ordinary artifacts, containing boundless spiritual power. Yang Nan erased their remaining souls and recombined them into spiritual essence, slowly shaping it into a small flag.
Once the flag took shape, Yang Nan activated the Unextinguishable Yin Wheel, transforming strands of demonic energy and infusing the flag, turning its spiritual energy entirely into demonic energy.
Having obtained this demonic sect technique, Yang Nan spent several hours refining the Mysterious Nether Yin Sha Flag for the first time.
The flag’s staff was barely an inch long, but its banner flapped fiercely in the wind, filled with rolling black clouds and countless wailing and roaring souls within, chilling the heart of anyone who beheld it.
Countless demonic runes adorned the flag, engraved with the Mysterious Nether Yin Sha Formation. With this small flag, it would no longer be difficult to condense souls and transform spirits when refining ghost souls.
