Chapter 109: Fury Rising in the East

“Who?”
“Who was it?”
“Who killed my Hao’er?”
A furious roar echoed across Chang’an City, and the entire sky was filled with a terrifying killing intent.
At that same moment, Immortal Shen Shang and Zhao Kuo, who had been discussing the Dao with the Lord of the State at the State Lord’s Residence, exchanged a glance. They rose and walked to the hall entrance, looking toward the Eastern family estate.
“Something happened to Eastern Hao?” Zhao Kuo asked疑声道?
Immortal Shen Shang said, “Judging by that old fool Eastern’s appearance, there can be no doubt of it... But who could be so audacious as to kill the heir of their family?”
“Eastern Hao’s strength had long since approached the Earth Core Realm. Anyone in the State of Zhao capable of killing him could not possibly be an unknown nobody.”
“You mean the culprit came from one of our major powers?”
Zhao Kuo nodded. “Among the wandering cultivators, nearly everyone who reaches the Core Realm has already been recruited as a guest elder by your three sects or by one of those great clans... I simply wonder which side did this.”
“I shall return to the sect first. I will seek your guidance again when I have the leisure, Brother Zhao.” With that, Immortal Shen Shang turned and transformed into a streak of light, flying toward the Purple Sun Sect.
After Immortal Shen Shang departed, Zhao Kuo clapped his hands. A figure clad in black armor appeared before him and knelt on one knee.
“What are your orders, my lord?”
“Investigate the cause of Eastern Hao’s death...” Zhao Kuo said in a deep voice.
“Yes, my lord!”

With one roar, the winds and clouds were stirred.
While all the major powers were investigating the upheaval within the Eastern family, Lin Cheng and the others had already flown far from the imperial capital. They arrived at a remote little city called Fish Drum City.
In one of the city’s more luxurious restaurants, they ate and drank to their hearts’ content. It was not until deep into the night that Lin Cheng called all his companions to his room and told them that he had killed Eastern Hao.
“That bastard! I noticed long ago that the way he looked at Junior Sister Xu was wrong. I never thought he would really be so lust-crazed as to abduct her by force...”
“Good riddance!”
“That dog! If I’d been there, I would have torn him into pieces and taken him back to feed Little Demon...”
At Fatty Lin’s words, the corner of Lin Cheng’s mouth twitched. He could not help thinking of that little fellow. It had been nearly a year since he had last seen it, and he wondered how it was doing now. He truly missed it a little.
“Speaking of which, Little Lin, do you still want that little black dog of yours? If not, just give it to me. I’ve practically been the one raising it while you were gone... Come to think of it, I’m really curious—is that dog a meat eater?” Ox Thirteen looked at Lin Cheng with great interest.
“Aren’t dogs supposed to eat excrement?” Pang Bo scratched his head and spoke.

Lin Cheng was rendered speechless. “Little Demon is no ordinary beast. Stop thinking about it.”
“An exotic beast? Isn’t it just a dog? Though it is a little unusual... It does love meat!”
Liu Feng and the Wine Fool exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with bewilderment. A dog that loved meat?
Lin Cheng did not explain. Instead, he asked, “How is Little Demon doing now? What realm has it reached?”
“I don’t know. Usually, it is as docile as an ordinary house dog and rarely reveals its aura. But I feel a sense of dread whenever I’m around it...” Ox Thirteen shuddered.
“All right, enough about Little Demon. Here are some spirit stones for you to keep...” As Lin Cheng spoke, he handed each of them a storage pouch filled with a vast quantity of spirit stones. At present, spirit stones were the thing he lacked least.
Fatty Lin immediately leaped to his feet. “Th-this many spirit stones... Crazy, where did you get them?”
“They must have been left behind by the master of that Imperial Realm cave dwelling and inherited by Junior Brother Lin.” Liu Feng was likewise stunned. Even after cultivating for so many years, he had never possessed so many spirit stones.
Lin Cheng merely smiled faintly. He then took out the belongings of Eastern Hao and the others and allowed his companions to choose what they wanted.
It was not until dawn that the group, all smiles, pushed open the door and continued southward toward their sect.

Azure Sun Sect, mountain gate plaza.
Several streaks of light flew across the distant sky and descended before the plaza, transforming into the figures of Lin Cheng and his companions.
“We’re finally back!”
“It feels so good to be home!”
“After being away for more than a year, I’m back...”
The group parted ways for the moment, each hurrying toward their respective masters.
Unable to wait, Lin Cheng headed straight for Hidden Sword Peak and arrived at the Hidden Edge Pavilion. He had intended to pay his respects to his master first, but discovered that his master and the others had yet to return. They had likely gone with Senior Sister Han Meng to search for them. Thinking no further on the matter, he returned directly to his cave dwelling.
“Little Demon! Little Demon!” Lin Cheng shouted from afar.
Inside the cave dwelling, Little Demon had been lying there with its ears drooping and its eyes closed in boredom. At the sound of his voice, its enormous, bell-like eyes suddenly lit up.
It leaped out of the cave in a single bound.
Upon seeing that familiar figure, it sprang into the air and pounced toward Lin Cheng. Man and dog began tumbling and playing together on the ground.
“How have you been all this time?”
“Has anyone come here to bully you?”

Little Demon naturally understood Lin Cheng’s concerned words. It simply had yet to learn how to speak like a human.
“Come on. Release your aura and let me see whether you’ve made any progress over the past year...”
Little Demon struck the ground with its right paw. Its aura surged, and every strand of its black fur stood erect. In the blink of an eye, the spiritual might of the third level of the Lesser Spirit Realm erupted from its body.
“You’re almost at the Earth Spirit Realm?” Lin Cheng was utterly astonished. The spirit stones he had left for Little Demon had probably long since been exhausted. Yet, relying solely on the spiritual energy within the cave dwelling in the rear mountains, it had still advanced so rapidly, reaching the peak of the Lesser Spirit Realm.
“You’re truly a freak!” Lin Cheng exclaimed. He had faced countless dangers and had only just reached the Heavenly Spirit Realm with the support of enormous quantities of spirit stones. By comparison, Little Demon’s talent was frighteningly powerful.
As expected of a Heavenly Demon Tiger—it was truly extraordinary!

Half a month passed in the blink of an eye. During that time, apart from wandering and playing around the sect with Little Demon, roasting meat over bonfires and drinking with his friends, Lin Cheng had not devoted himself to cultivation. In his view, the road of cultivation was long, so one should enjoy life whenever possible. Burying oneself in bitter cultivation all day was simply too dull.
In truth, he also felt that his cultivation had advanced too quickly. He was practically invincible among the younger generation, and this had left his youthful heart swollen with pride.
His master and Senior Sister Han Meng still had not returned, but he was not overly worried. Given his master’s cultivation, there were probably very few people in the State of Zhao who could defeat him with any certainty.
One day, the autumn air was crisp and the sky clear for thousands of miles.
Several rainbows streaked across the sky above the Azure Sun Sect. Five figures descended upon the mountain gate plaza of the main peak. Their auras were as deep as the sea, and the foremost man looked imposing and aggressive as he shouted:
“Send Lin Cheng out here!”
The explosive roar reverberated throughout the entire Azure Sun Sect. Every disciple who had been meditating or engaged in animated discussion was interrupted by the angry shout, and all turned toward the mountain gate plaza of the main peak in confusion.
“What is going on?”
“Did Lin Cheng cause trouble?”
“That single shout is enough to make one’s heart tremble. These people must be extraordinary...”
“Come on, let’s go take a look.”
For a time, nearly all the disciples could no longer suppress their curiosity and hurried toward the mountain gate plaza.
“I was wondering who had come to visit our sect. So it is Brother Eastern and Brother True Sun...” With a flash of light, the Azure Sun Sect Master appeared in the plaza, followed by several sect elders.
Before he could finish speaking, his expression suddenly changed. He hurried forward, clasped his fists, and said, “What brings you here, Old Master Eastern? And these two are...?”
As he spoke, he looked疑惑的? at the two elderly men standing beside Old Master Eastern.
