At dawn, on a highway in the Western Han Province, a black six-seater car sped along as the sun began its slow ascent behind distant mountains. The world was still dim, and the clear brightness of day had not yet arrived.

Inside the car, Yang Dai sat in the back seat, idly chatting with the driver while toying with the credentials in his hand.

Name: Yang Dai
Gender: Male
Cultivation: Fourth Level, Qi Gathering Realm
Deep Domain ID: Conqueror Who Cannot Cross the River
Authority Level: SS
Protection Level: SS
Affiliation: Western Han Province Intelligence Bureau
...

These credentials had been prepared overnight by Hu Li. Within the Xia Kingdom, these papers allowed Yang Dai to travel anywhere he wished, granting him varying degrees of convenience and protection wherever he went.

Yang Dai tossed the credentials into his storage pouch, which he kept in his pocket. It was so light as to be unnoticeable.

The driver, keeping his eyes on the road, played the provincial radio, which was reporting on the situation at the beast tide front.

“This morning, at 5:47, the highway toll station outside Gaogu City was struck by the first wave of the beast tide. The attack comprised three thousand seven hundred and twenty demonic beasts, all of which have been eliminated by the trialists...”

The battle against the beast tide had begun!

From the reports, humanity’s fighting strength seemed formidable. Yang Dai felt a measure of reassurance.

Bang!

A thunderous crash sounded ahead; the driver slammed on the brakes. Yang Dai, sitting steady, didn’t lurch forward.

Looking ahead, Yang Dai saw a massive avian demon had crashed onto the highway, collapsing the asphalt and scattering blood. Its body was covered in white feathers, now mostly stained crimson, making it impossible to discern its exact species.

“Damn it, if I’d been driving any faster, that beast would’ve crushed us!” the driver cursed, maneuvering the car around the fallen creature.

As they passed, Yang Dai’s eyes lit up. “Let me out.”

The bird demon was clearly dead, its head half blasted away.

Knowing Yang Dai’s credentials, the driver stopped immediately and asked nervously, “What are you going to do?”

Yang Dai didn’t hide his intentions. “My Deep Domain talent is soul absorption. I can absorb the souls of demonic beasts as well. I plan to participate in the beast tide battle—if I can strengthen myself, I will.”

He opened the door and released Tian Zhongbu, Shi Long, Bai Wei, and Cheng the Hungry out of the storage pouch.

Looking upward, Yang Dai saw no birds in the sky, only a figure circling overhead on a flying sword. Presumably, this was the one who had slain the bird demon.

Wasting no time, Yang Dai ordered Tian Zhongbu to check the bird demon’s condition, then instructed Bai Wei and the others to carry him back to the car should he lose consciousness.

Tian Zhongbu returned and reported, “It’s completely dead.”

Yang Dai’s excitement grew. He rushed forward, rubbing his hands together, silently hoping the soul was still intact.

Raising his right hand above the demon’s ghastly, ruined head, he began absorbing its soul.

A familiar, stabbing pain shot through him, much to his delight.

There was a soul!

If it hurt, it meant the bird demon was no ordinary creature! As he absorbed the soul, Yang Dai compared the pain to what he had felt with Marshal Tianpeng’s soul—it was weaker, but not by much.

It made sense. Any avian demon capable of breaching the province’s defenses couldn’t be mediocre.

Very soon, Yang Dai drew the bird demon’s soul out—a white dove. Given the size of its corpse, larger than a car, it was hard to imagine it had once been an ordinary pigeon.

A figure descended from the sky, hovering low on a flying sword. The man, dressed in a suit with slicked-back hair, looked to be just over thirty. He eyed Yang Dai suspiciously. “Kid, what are you doing?”

Yang Dai, right hand still absorbing the soul, drew out his credentials with his left. “I’m only absorbing its soul—not touching the body.”

Demonic beast corpses were precious, used in alchemy and crafting magical artifacts. Trialists typically kept their spoils. Extracting valuable materials from a corpse was a skill in itself; one couldn’t simply drag the entire body away. This was something Yang Dai would have to learn at university.

The man’s expression shifted when he saw the double SS ranking on the credentials. “Go ahead, I’ll stand guard for you.”

His gaze flicked to Tian Zhongbu and the others, inwardly startled. The four emitted a greenish glow—clearly soul bodies.

So this kid’s Deep Domain talent is soul-related?

He’d been a trialist for several years and had seen similar talents before.

So, Yang Dai took two minutes to finish absorbing the soul, this time managing not to faint, only feeling a bit lightheaded.

Bidding the man farewell, Yang Dai got back in the car and set off again.

The driver, excited, asked, “Conqueror, now that you’ve absorbed the bird demon’s soul, can you summon it?”

He’d noticed the four followers and put two and two together.

Yang Dai smiled and nodded.

“Amazing! How many can you summon?”

“Ten, I think.”

“Incredible—no wonder you have an SS talent!”

“Please keep it to yourself.”

“Don’t worry, I’m with the Intelligence Bureau—I know how to keep a secret.”

The two continued chatting in a relaxed fashion.

Yang Dai felt a growing heat in his chest.

He suddenly realized the beast tide wasn’t just a crisis—it could be an opportunity!

There would be countless demon beast corpses at the front. This beast tide was massive, numbering at least several million, perhaps even tens of millions. By absorbing just a fraction, he could assemble an army of beast souls.

Yang Dai began hoping to encounter more demon beast corpses along the way, but was disappointed. If beasts were roaming freely deep inside the province, the trialists’ defensive line would have been completely breached; the bird demon just now must have slipped through by chance and was slain in time.

By noon, the driver dropped Yang Dai off at the entrance to his neighborhood, where his parents and siblings were already waiting.

Yang Dai said his goodbyes to the driver and walked over to his family.

Seeing his parents, Yang Dai was genuinely pleased. But when he looked at his younger brother and sister, he felt uneasy. In his previous life, they hadn’t existed. After his rebirth, these siblings had appeared out of nowhere. Anyone would find it strange.

“This is a parallel world... a parallel world...” Yang Dai hypnotized himself inwardly.

The family returned home together, lively and cheerful. Little Yang Chao and Little Yang Yan even reached out to hold his hands, their affection melting away his awkwardness.

It was Yang Dai’s first time at their new home. He had to admit, the neighborhood was impressive: all standalone villas with their own gardens, a range of amenities, even a swimming pool. Clearly, the residents were wealthy.

After chatting briefly with his family, Yang Dai retreated to his room and entered the Deep Domain.

There, by the familiar lakeside, he released all his soul followers to cultivate, then summoned the white dove soul.

A giant bird, with wings spanning thirty feet, appeared before him—it was the very same white dove.

Marshal Tianpeng and Liang Zixiao immediately turned their attention to it.

“From now on, you’ll be called Dove Spirit. Liang Zixiao, come spar with it and test its strength,” Yang Dai instructed. With Dove Spirit, he now possessed his own exclusive aircraft—a high-altitude combat unit.

The other soul followers watched with curiosity.

Yang Dai dispatched ten followers to patrol the nearby mountains and forests, scouting the area to avoid unexpected encounters. If they stumbled upon any freshly dead bodies, all the better.

After a bout, Liang Zixiao and Dove Spirit fought to a draw—mainly because Dove Spirit could fly. Unless its body was shattered, it was nearly impossible to kill. Since it was just a spar, neither fought with full force.

“Congratulations, Master. Dove Spirit’s cultivation is equivalent to the ninth level of the Qi Gathering Realm. It’s close to becoming a true demon. Its strength and physique can’t match Marshal Tianpeng, but its speed is unmatched—unless faced with a master of the Heart Rotation Realm, no one could catch it,” Liang Zixiao said with a smile, his former pride fading away.

In such a short time, Yang Dai already had two followers whose combat strength rivaled his own.
