Chapter 104: It’s Not That He Wanted to Protect Li Su, It’s Wang Tao Who Deserves Punishment

Suddenly, Song Sheng appeared out of nowhere, startling both Wei Shi’an and Li Su. Wei Shi’an frowned, wondering where this man had come from, startled by his sudden appearance.
Song Sheng felt an inexplicable flush creeping over his face under their gazes, but thinking he needed to explain on behalf of Brother Li, he forced himself to remain calm.
After taking a deep breath, Song Sheng spoke up, “Dean Wei, you’ve misunderstood Brother Li. The situation isn’t as the Wang family claims.”
Wei Shi’an looked puzzled. What misunderstanding? What Wang family? What did they have to do with this?
At that moment, Li Su also realized that Song Sheng must have thought Dean Wei was here to discuss Wang Tao’s matter and possibly punish him.
Song Sheng, being socially awkward, had stepped forward boldly for this reason, which surprised Li Su—how righteous of him.
“It was Wang Tao who placed a barbed hook under Brother Li’s saddle, causing his horse to panic. A wild horse doesn’t recognize its rider; Wang Tao’s injury was entirely his own fault, and Brother Li himself also fell off the horse,” Song Sheng revealed the truth.
Wei Shi’an glanced at Song Sheng and then at Li Su, asking Li Su, “Is what he says true?”
He had only been away from the academy for a few days—how could such a thing have happened?
Li Su nodded, “He even banged my hand when I fell,” though it wasn’t seriously injured.
Wei Shi’an’s eyes widened involuntarily. Xi Sheng sent his disciple to him and then ended up with an injured hand? Would Xi Sheng think his academy was poorly managed?
Who was this Wang Tao, a scoundrel bold enough to lay hands on Li Su?
And falling from a horse—what if he hit his head? Li Su’s head surely contained much valuable knowledge.
He had access to glass formulas and probably other precious things not yet obtained; they couldn’t afford for him to be brain-damaged.
Moreover, Li Su was a promising talent in the study of natural phenomena, someone Wei Shi’an had taken a liking to. For him to be injured at his own academy was unacceptable.
Worried, Wei Shi’an quickly asked, “How’s your hand?”
Li Su covered his arm, “It still hurts a bit.”
Song Sheng was confused. He remembered Brother Li injured the other hand, not the one he was holding now.
Anger flared in Wei Shi’an’s heart, “How could you be so useless, so foolish? Why didn’t you learn from your master? You let yourself be ambushed.”
Li Su thought silently, who said he hadn’t learned anything?
Song Sheng looked bewildered; Dean Wei’s attitude wasn’t what he had expected.
Li Su said nothing, preferring not to get involved.
Wei Shi’an turned to Song Sheng, “I understand the situation now. You may leave; I have something to discuss with Li Su.”
Song Sheng nodded, realizing he had underestimated the relationship between Dean Wei and Brother Li.

After Song Sheng left, Wei Shi’an wore a grim expression as he took Li Su into his research room.
The glass Wei Shi’an had brought was laid out on the table, several pieces in all.
Li Su glanced at them appreciatively—quite good, the quality and speed were impressive.
“You usually seem crafty, but when it comes to serious matters, you act foolishly,” Wei Shi’an said sharply.
“I have no grudge against him; I don’t understand why he went mad,” Li Su replied feigning innocence.
Wei Shi’an lectured Li Su at length, who listened attentively and nodded seriously.
When Wei Shi’an paused, satisfied with Li Su’s attentive attitude, he felt comfortable.
Li Su asked, “Dean, when did you start making the ‘Thousand-Mile Eye’? I’d like to learn alongside you.”
Wei Shi’an looked smug, “You’re not my disciple. Why would I let you learn?”
“Dean, is it really impossible? I’m quite interested in this, and with me by your side, we could greatly shorten the time it takes to create the Thousand-Mile Eye.”
“If you’re really interested, apprentice under me, and I promise to teach you all my lifelong knowledge,” Wei Shi’an coaxed.
“Dean, you know I already have a master,” Li Su said helplessly.
“Xi Sheng sent you to my academy because he wants to hand you over to me,” Wei Shi’an said. Xi Sheng must have discovered Li Su’s talent in natural phenomena and deliberately sent him here.
Learning from Wei Shi’an would be good, but now Wei Shi’an wanted to steal Xi Sheng’s disciple.
“That won’t do; I only recognize my master,” Li Su insisted, clinging tightly to his teacher.
Wei Shi’an was speechless.
Frustrated, Wei Shi’an said, “Then why do you want to learn from me? I don’t even have a master’s title!”
Wei Shi’an was indignant. He wanted to teach but lacked official status; who was he in comparison?
“Dean, you still care about titles?”
“Does Xi Sheng not care? If he didn’t, he’d just let me have you. I’m no less than Xi Sheng. Shouldn’t I care?”
Li Su was speechless.
“Well, Dean, call me when you’re ready to teach me,” Li Su said, turning to leave.
Wei Shi’an’s eyes widened, his voice rising, “How can you be so weak-willed? Just because I said no, you stop trying?”
“I just don’t want to make things difficult for you.”
“Oh, so you’re still thinking of me?”

Li Su nodded slowly. Wei Shi’an was frustrated, now suspecting Xi Sheng sent Li Su here just to annoy him.
“Dean, you should rest early. I’m going back to sleep too,” Li Su said, stepping toward the door while silently counting to three.
At three, Wei Shi’an suddenly shouted irritably, “Stop right there!”
Li Su turned around innocently, “Dean, did you need something else?”
Wei Shi’an took a deep breath, “Starting tomorrow, get up an hour earlier and come to my courtyard. First practice martial arts, then study natural phenomena.”
“You pathetic fool, how could you let that playboy from the Wang family bully you? It’s shameful. You need proper training.”
Li Su’s eyes brightened—martial arts! Scaling walls, light-footed water walking!
Who doesn’t dream of being a hero?
Wei Shi’an’s family were all warriors; his martial skills must be excellent. His master really found him a good place.
Li Su beamed, “Alright! I’ll be there tomorrow!”
Wei Shi’an was speechless. Was this brat deliberately waiting for him here?
Before Wei Shi’an could say more, Li Su hurried away, as if afraid he would change his mind.
Wei Shi’an rolled his eyes but couldn’t help smiling, shaking his head.
Li Su’s making him angry now was a debt he would repay during martial arts training.
Wei Shi’an picked up the glass tenderly, feeling hopeful. With Li Su’s help, the Thousand-Mile Eye would soon be created.
Thinking of that, he recalled Wang Tao. If anything happened to Li Su that delayed his project, Wang Tao would have ruined his plans.
Right, he wasn’t protecting Li Su; Wang Tao had almost ruined his big endeavor and must pay the price.
Wei Shi’an resumed his study of the glass, working late into the night before leaving.
Li Su returned to his room to find Song Sheng’s wide eyes fixed on him.
