Chapter 114: The emergency call was made by Gu Pingsheng.
Step back.
Gu Pingsheng drew close to her, his breath scorching. The fact that he had held on this long was sheer stubbornness.
Yet, there she was—so strikingly alive before him, enticing him.
He pressed her against the wall, his thin lips lingering along her neck. This time, Wen Zhixia did something uncharacteristic: she did not push him away.
If Gu Pingsheng had retained his usual calm mind, he would have noticed her oddness. But his body was ablaze, and his reactions overpowered his reason. Her faint, subtle scent intoxicated him, igniting an urgent craving for more.
However, in the very next moment, a sharp, electric shock coursed through his entire body, causing him to collapse onto Wen Zhixia.
She had dared to enter alone, not without precaution—especially knowing Gu Pingsheng’s nature. Whether drunk or under the influence of medicine, it was rare for him to behave obediently.
Concealed on her was a small stun baton, sufficient to handle him in his weakened state.
After helping him to a chair, Wen Zhixia checked his pulse at the neck to ensure he was alright, then closed the door and left.
Given Zhou Anbei’s efficiency, he should return soon.
Wen Zhixia prepared to head downstairs, but after touching her neck, she turned toward the restroom.
She hadn’t forgotten Gu Pingsheng’s earlier bite; if any marks remained, they had to be concealed first.
What Wen Zhixia hadn’t expected was that from the moment she left for the restroom, applied concealer to cover the marks, and reemerged—all within half an hour—she already heard a commotion coming from the conference room.
If Zhou Anbei had gone and come back, there wouldn’t be such a stir. Could it be that...
Gu Pingsheng was in trouble?
Though Wen Zhixia was confident that the stun baton could only temporarily incapacitate and posed no serious danger, given Gu Pingsheng’s ingestion of unknown medicine, the ruckus from the conference room suddenly made her less certain.
Without hesitation, she furrowed her brow and stepped toward the source of the noise.
Inside the conference room were a few reporters and several senior executives. Gu Pingsheng’s face was grim; beside him stood Zhou Anbei and a man who appeared to be a doctor, his knobby fingers single-handedly buttoning his coat.
Judging by Gu Pingsheng’s complexion, he seemed uninjured, but the one in trouble was Li Yueting, whose disheveled clothing barely shielded her body.
Surrounded by so many, she looked flustered, the clicking of cameras incessant.
The executives exchanged looks, some dark and inscrutable.
“Stop taking pictures, stop, this... President Gu is different from us old men. He’s young, and Manager Li is a beauty—a perfect match, ha ha ha...”
Their words attempted to downplay the situation. The executives, all sharp, nodded in agreement.
Zhang Zhiyan watched the scene with amusement. Catching sight of Wen Zhixia entering, he remarked, “Since time has kindled feelings, and the media have caught it all, President Gu should give her a status. And on this auspicious day of Little Wen’s company opening, it would be a double celebration. What do you think, Zhixia?”
At his words, the crowd parted, revealing Wen Zhixia at the back.
Gu Pingsheng’s dark eyes suddenly narrowed; his neck stiffened as he turned to see her. The moment their eyes met, his throat tightened, panic flashing across his gaze.
He rose, calling out, “Xiaxia.”
Wen Zhixia stared at him for several seconds, but said nothing.
She saw the red stain on Li Yueting’s white pencil skirt, right at the back—a mark any observant person would notice.
In this context, with Li Yueting’s shallow breaths and flushed face, what had happened was clear.
Wen Zhixia watched silently. Everything pointed to this: after being stunned by her and regaining consciousness under the drug’s influence, Gu Pingsheng had engaged in relations with Li Yueting.
“Congratulations, President Gu,” she said faintly, lifting the corner of her mouth under his gaze.
Gu Pingsheng’s step froze, his expression visibly chilling.
“Zhou Anbei,” he called.
Zhou stepped forward. “President Gu.”
“What are you waiting for? The doctor is here—start the examination!” His voice was strained, as if squeezed from his throat.
Zhou hesitated briefly, then turned to the doctor beside him. “Dr. Sun, please check if Manager Li has... engaged in sexual activity.”
The statement shifted the atmosphere; reporters and executives alike exchanged varied expressions.
Li Yueting tightly clasped her front buttons, eyes wide with disbelief and humiliation. “Secretary Zhou, what are you trying to do?!”
Her angry warning went unanswered by Zhou, who only glanced toward Dr. Sun.
As the doctor approached, Li Yueting recoiled as though deeply insulted, shoving him away before he could come near. She stepped before Gu Pingsheng, head held high, stubbornness shining in her reddened eyes.
“What does this mean, President Gu? Why humiliate me like this?”
“If you want to pretend nothing happened, I won’t say a word. But you cannot trample on my dignity this way.”
Her tone was neither submissive nor arrogant, but her clenched fingers betrayed the pain she was restraining.
Her hair was slightly tousled, her once-pristine outfit wrinkled. She did not shout or make a scene; her challenge seemed to be for the sake of honor alone. This composed resilience moved many of the executives, altering their opinions of her.
Wen Zhixia stood elegantly to the side, curious about Gu Pingsheng’s intentions.
The cooler her demeanor—like an outsider—the more Gu Pingsheng’s suppressed fury flared.
“Where did the blood on your skirt come from?”
Caught off guard, Li Yueting’s face burned with shame. She averted her gaze, took a deep breath, and suddenly pushed through the crowd, attempting to flee.
Passing in front of Wen Zhixia, the latter lifted a hand and grabbed Li Yueting’s arm, a faint smile playing on her refined features.
“Secretary Li, there are many people downstairs. Let me get you something to change into before you leave. With so many watching, don’t give them something to laugh at.”
Unbeknownst to Wen Zhixia, Li Yueting wanted as many eyes as possible on her. She shrugged off the hand.
“Thank you for your kindness, Little President Wen, but that won’t be necessary.”
Gu Pingsheng glanced at Zhou Anbei, who quickly blocked Li Yueting’s path.
“Manager Li, if you leave now, how will President Gu explain this to the reporters and executives? Don’t worry, Dr. Sun is experienced; he won’t take much of your time.”
Li Yueting raised her head angrily, then suddenly slapped Zhou Anbei before storming out without a word.
The photographers captured the entire scene.
Yet clearly, those photos wouldn’t see the light of day.
Still, Li Yueting’s escape caused quite a stir in the lobby, and the waiting reporters outside recorded it all.
“Secretary Zhou, escort her back safely,” Gu Pingsheng said, lips pressed tight, eyes dark as night.
Zhou nodded and followed.
Gu Pingsheng stood by the window, looking down to see cameras peering from the parked cars. His gaze darkened.
Twenty minutes later, police cars pulled up outside the company.
Gu Pingsheng had made the call.
He had hoped to minimize the scandal, but with things spiraling, the quickest and cleanest way to resolve the matter was to involve the police and let the media report the full story.
With mainstream media coverage, the baseless rumors and salacious gossip would be overshadowed.
This, however, would inevitably implicate Wen Zhixia’s newly opened company.
The grand opening ceremony had turned into a drug bust.
Tests revealed banned substances in Gu Pingsheng’s blood. Li Yueting, who fled and happened to be present when he fell ill, naturally became the primary suspect.
As the person in charge, Wen Zhixia had to manage the chaotic aftermath once the guests left.
“President Wen, what should we do about today’s... situation?” the staff asked, uncertain how to summarize the events.
Wen Zhixia pressed her fingers to her brow and waved them off.
“You all may leave first.”
She needed a moment to herself.
Once the staff had gone and night had fully fallen, Wen Zhixia went alone to retrieve her car.
“Beep beep beep—”
In the quiet parking lot, a car horn honked behind her.
Wen Zhixia turned and, through the Bugatti’s windshield, glimpsed the driver—Gu Pingsheng.
The car door opened. He had changed into fresh clothes and stepped out with long strides, holding a medical report in his hand.
He raised the report directly in front of her eyes.
The proximity was so close that she saw nothing, only heard his strained voice: “Look. Look carefully!”
Irritated, Wen Zhixia pried his hand away, thinking if he truly wanted her to see, why hold it so close?
But as she glanced sideways, she caught sight of the report.
After reading a few keywords, she froze, disbelief and something... peculiar flickering in her eyes.
Raising her gaze to Gu Pingsheng, her brow furrowed.
“What’s with that expression?” he asked, noticing every detail, his voice dark and cold as he clenched his jaw.
“You... actually went for the test?” Wen Zhixia pressed her lips together, contemplating for a few seconds. It was hard to believe if he had indeed done such a thing.
