Chapter 72: Her Name Written
He Haoxuan shot Bai Lu a look. “This BMW X7 belongs to my wife.”
“Qingying, be honest with me—is this true?” Bai Lu fixed her gaze on Li Qingying as she questioned her.
At this moment, Bai Lu simply couldn’t believe anything He Haoxuan or Li Qingying said. What did it mean to be rich? This BMW X7—was it really theirs? How could that be possible?
Earlier that evening, Bai Lu had asked someone to look into Bailei Group’s recent situation. She discovered that Li Qingying was no longer the general manager—rumor had it she’d been stripped of her power, left as a powerless deputy manager, completely sidelined.
And a BMW X7 cost over three million yuan—how could Li Qingying possibly afford such a car?
As for He Haoxuan, even less likely.
The car cruised down the highway. Since Bai Lu would be getting out soon, Li Qingying sat in the passenger seat. Nearing Bai Lu’s neighborhood, they saw a sign ahead: “Police Vehicle Inspection.” Several officers waved at He Haoxuan to pull over.
He Haoxuan stopped the car and rolled down the window. A policeman saluted him. “Sir, please show your driver’s license and vehicle registration.”
He Haoxuan handed over his license. The officer examined it carefully, then returned it. “And the registration?”
“Right, He Haoxuan, hurry up and show the registration, didn’t you say this car was yours?” Bai Lu’s eyes lit up in the back seat.
She couldn’t believe her luck—heaven itself seemed to be helping her.
As soon as He Haoxuan produced the registration, the police would see the car wasn’t his after all.
“My wife has the registration,” He Haoxuan replied.
Bai Lu sneered. “He Haoxuan, so you rented this car and now you don’t dare show the registration? Hahaha, just wait—if it’s registered under someone else’s name or a company, won’t that be embarrassing?”
Li Qingying flushed with embarrassment—this was trouble. She had told so many lies just to help He Haoxuan save face. She’d thought that once Bai Lu got home, there would be no need to keep pretending.
But who could have expected to run into a police checkpoint on the way? Once Bai Lu found out the car wasn’t theirs, she would surely mock them.
Sigh, things had turned out so badly—what a disaster.
The policeman, seeing they still hadn’t produced the registration, pressed, “Please show the vehicle registration.”
Li Qingying hesitated, but could only meekly open the compartment and hand over the document.
The officer took the registration, glanced at it, then looked up at He Haoxuan.
Bai Lu deliberately asked, “Officer, what name is on the registration? Is it He Haoxuan?”
The policeman glanced at He Haoxuan again and shook his head. “The owner is not He Haoxuan.”
“Hahaha! He Haoxuan, now let’s see you keep up the act! Embarrassed now, aren’t you?” Bai Lu burst out laughing.
Li Qingying’s face burned with shame. Being exposed like this was a terrible feeling. But she knew that lies always get uncovered eventually—it was just a matter of time.
Seeing He Haoxuan’s silence, Bai Lu turned to Li Qingying. “Qingying, what do you have to say now? You’re always thinking of him, but look at you—when did you become so fake? You should be honest and grounded, not go around deceiving people.”
The officer handed the registration back to Li Qingying. “It’s registered in Li Qingying’s name.”
Bai Lu kept laughing, but suddenly froze. “What? Officer, whose name did you say?”
“Li Qingying,” the policeman replied.
“No, that’s impossible!” Bai Lu cried. “Qingying, let me see the registration!”
Li Qingying opened the document and stared, unable to believe her eyes. How could this be? How could the registration be in her name?
No, it had to be someone with the same name—a coincidence, nothing more. Who knew there could be such a stroke of fate?
Seeing Li Qingying still staring at the registration, Bai Lu sneered. “Come on, Qingying, let me see—don’t think you can fool me with your little act.”
She snatched the registration and stared, dumbfounded. “How can this be your name?”
“It must be someone with the same name. Let me check the address,” Bai Lu said, inspecting the document again.
This time, she was even more shocked. “How can this be? Qingying, it even lists your home address.”
He Haoxuan chuckled. “Of course it’s in my wife’s name—it’s her car.”
Bai Lu still wouldn’t believe it and asked the police to verify whether the BMW X7 belonged to Li Qingying.
A moment later, the officer said, “This vehicle is registered to Ms. Li Qingying. If there’s nothing else, you may go.”
When He Haoxuan drove to the entrance of Bai Lu’s community, she stepped out, her mind reeling.
How could it not be a rental? If it was Li Qingying’s car, she hadn’t lied. Did He Haoxuan truly have such ability?
It was absolutely impossible!
He Haoxuan didn’t care whether Bai Lu was dazed or not; he simply drove on towards home.
Li Qingying was even more bewildered than He Haoxuan. Wasn’t the BMW X7 supposed to be a rental? How had it suddenly become her own car?
Suddenly, Li Qingying’s eyes widened. “He Haoxuan, did you find someone to forge a fake registration?”
“I—” He Haoxuan barely got a word out before Li Qingying interrupted.
“I’m telling you, buying fake liquor isn’t such a big deal, but if you forge documents, you could go to jail!” Li Qingying exclaimed. “Wait—no, the officer checked and said the registration was genuine.”
He Haoxuan felt a headache coming on. “Honey, don’t overthink it. Didn’t I tell you? The car is yours.”
“What about the other BMW X7 we sent for repairs?” Li Qingying pressed.
“That’s yours too,” He Haoxuan replied with a smile.
Li Qingying shook her head. “I don’t believe it. You must be lying. I feel like I’m dreaming.”
With that, she suddenly leaned over and bit He Haoxuan’s arm.
“Ow! Honey, even if you’re hungry, you don’t need to bite me! I’ll cook for you when we get home!” He Haoxuan cried out.
If not for his excellent driving skills, they might have crashed then and there.
Back at the Li family home, Li Qingying saw the other BMW X7 parked outside.
She jumped out, ran inside to get the keys from her mother, and found the registration in the car.
Now, she truly felt as if she were dreaming.
She owned two BMW X7s? How could that be possible? Together, they were worth over seven million yuan.
“He Haoxuan, tell me the truth—where did these cars come from?” Li Qingying stared intently at him. “Did you do something illegal?”
“I—” He Haoxuan was at a loss for words.
Over the past few years, he’d done a lot of things overseas. Whether they were wrong was hard to say.
To him, his conscience was clear.
But to others, perhaps not.
And now, much of his money had been earned from those endeavors.
