Chapter 46: Hello, Mr. He
He Haoxuan noticed someone running toward him and looked up in surprise, only to see Tong Ge standing before him, panting heavily.
“Hello, Mr. He,” Tong Ge’s voice had changed, trembling with caution, like a leaf fluttering in the autumn wind.
In his heart, Tong Ge was overjoyed. As long as he flattered Mr. He, he would soon enjoy the finer things in life. His boss, Qiang Ge, treated Mr. He as though he were his own father.
“You know me?” He Haoxuan frowned.
“I’m with Qiang Ge,” Tong Ge replied softly, seeing that He Haoxuan seemed displeased and worried about being overheard.
“So that’s it,” He Haoxuan nodded. “Eat your food and don’t disturb me.”
Seeing that He Haoxuan didn’t want to talk, Tong Ge retreated a few steps, lest he provoke the man and end up regretting it.
Wang Zhisheng, unaware of the situation, saw Tong Ge coming over and thought he was looking for him. Excitedly, he turned to Minnie and said, “Minnie, look at how powerful the Wang family is! We still have some influence in Qingshan City. If you stay with me, you’ll enjoy the good life.”
“Zhisheng, I’m already yours. Of course I’ll stay with you,” Minnie flirted, casting him a coquettish glance.
Wang Zhisheng was secretly pleased. Minnie was quite something—beautiful and shapely. If he didn’t keep a close eye on her, she might become someone else’s new flame. Of course, Li Qingwan was also excellent; he intended to make her his new lover as well.
“You sit here. I’m going to go flatter Tong Ge,” Wang Zhisheng said, then hurried over to Tong Ge.
“Hello, hello,” Tong Ge noticed that Wang Zhisheng was sitting at the same table as Mr. He—they must know each other. Anyone associated with Mr. He deserved his attention.
“Tong Ge, hello, hello,” Wang Zhisheng exclaimed, eagerly extending both hands to tightly grasp Tong Ge’s right hand.
Tong Ge had actually initiated the conversation. This was a rare opportunity, almost miraculous. When he returned to the Wang family, he’d be sure to tell the old man at home; maybe next month his allowance would double.
Tong Ge didn’t want to pry about Wang Zhisheng’s relationship to He Haoxuan and continued to make small talk. “Mr. Wang, you’re truly talented and promising. Your future is limitless.”
“Oh, it’s nothing. I’m just an intern at my family’s company. After graduation, I’ll definitely be a department manager, with an annual salary of at least a million,” Wang Zhisheng boasted. “Tong Ge, let’s have dinner sometime when you’re free.”
“That can be arranged. We’ll set it up when we have time,” Tong Ge replied, eager to get to know those around Mr. He.
Tong Ge recognized Miss Li Qingwan—she had accompanied Mr. He last time. But someone of her stature was out of reach for small fry like him; only his boss, Qiang Ge, could approach her. So he decided to get closer to Mr. He’s circle of friends instead.
Wang Zhisheng exchanged phone numbers with Tong Ge, feeling triumphant as he returned to He Haoxuan’s side.
Minnie deliberately asked loudly, “Darling Zhisheng, what did you talk about with Tong Ge just now?”
“Hehe, Tong Ge took the initiative to greet me, said he’d invite me to dinner when he’s free, and praised me for being talented. He wants to stay in touch,” Wang Zhisheng boasted, trying to impress the women at the table and see if he could win them all.
“Hmph, who cares about Tong Ge—he’s nothing special,” Li Qingwan said dismissively.
Her family owned Bailey Group, valued at a hundred million. Although she knew her branch of the family was often suppressed, she never claimed Bailey Group as her own, only that her family was wealthy.
Previously, their branch received very little in dividends and merely lived comfortably, but true wealth was elusive. Since her sister became the group’s general manager half a year ago, things had improved. Her parents’ positions in the company rose, their salaries increased, and her sister even received a BMW X5 as her company car—a remarkable achievement.
For the past six months, Li Qingwan had enjoyed newfound prestige and wanted to show off to her classmates. But Minnie couldn’t stand her, and the two were at odds.
“Li Qingwan, don’t be so loud, or you’ll be in trouble,” Wang Zhisheng whispered anxiously, glancing behind him to see Tong Ge still watching them.
When he turned, Tong Ge nodded at him, making Wang Zhisheng feel as if he could strut through Qingshan City with impunity.
“What’s Tong Ge’s background?” Li Qingwan, seeing Wang Zhisheng’s nervousness, decided not to be too arrogant and asked for more information.
Wang Zhisheng cleared his throat and whispered, “Tong Ge is with Victor Group.”
“Victor Group? I’ve never heard of it,” Li Qingwan mused, shaking her head.
“Victor Group is huge. You might not know it, but you know Star Hotel, right?” Wang Zhisheng asked.
“Of course. Didn’t we all eat there last time?” Xiaojun replied.
Wang Zhisheng picked up a skewer of grilled beef from the table and started eating. Tonight he’d be with Minnie and needed to keep his strength up—otherwise his performance might suffer. “Star Hotel is owned by Victor Group, and so is Tenglong Resort.”
“Zhisheng, I saw Tenglong Resort online. It’s beautiful. I want to stay there for a night,” Minnie said, pouting.
“That’s possible. We can go when we’re free,” Wang Zhisheng replied, brushing it off.
Minnie was just joking—Tenglong Resort wasn’t open to just anyone. The minimum daily spend was ten thousand, and even if you had the money, bookings were reportedly scheduled a month in advance.
Li Qingwan sneered, “Wang Zhisheng, stop exaggerating. I heard Tenglong Resort was developed by Victor Real Estate.”
“You said it yourself—Victor Real Estate. Do you think it’s unrelated to Victor Group? I heard Victor Group is valued at least at ten billion,” Wang Zhisheng retorted.
“What? Ten billion!” Xiaojun and the others exclaimed in shock.
Wang Zhisheng smiled smugly. “Exactly. So don’t underestimate Victor Group, and definitely don’t dismiss Tong Ge—he’s a senior executive there. One word from him and you could be ruined.”
Minnie chimed in, “You all saw it just now. Tong Ge really respects my Zhisheng—he even came over to talk and said he’d invite him to dinner.”
“Wow, Brother Wang! You’re amazing. You have to look out for us in the future,” Xiaojun and the others said admiringly.
After graduation, they would surely look for jobs in Qingshan City. Knowing people from major companies would make finding a job much easier.
