Chapter 122: I Am the Minister
However, this did not stump He Haoxuan. He went to the staircase directory and quickly saw that the Sales Department was on the fifth floor of the building.
Upon reaching the fifth floor, He Haoxuan saw that the entire floor belonged to the Sales Department. Some people were walking while talking on their phones, others were looking down at documents, and some were writing at their desks—all appearing extremely busy.
Just as He Haoxuan was looking around, a cry of surprise came from ahead: "Oh!"
A woman wearing large black-rimmed glasses and a skirt suit was knocked to the ground by He Haoxuan. The sight of her spread-out legs in black stockings made He Haoxuan look away quickly.
This was no longer a battlefield, and He Haoxuan only wanted to live an ordinary life, so he was not particularly vigilant or observant of his surroundings. It was precisely because of this that he had let his guard down, not noticing the woman walking around the corner while he was busy looking in every direction instead of watching his path.
"How are you walking? Are you blind?" Liu Xiaoyan yelled angrily. She had been in a great hurry to get to the restroom and had not expected to be knocked down by He Haoxuan, which had nearly caused her to make a fool of herself.
"Hey, lady, you were the one who bumped into me first," He Haoxuan retorted, seeing that Liu Xiaoyan looked to be in her thirties and had started the verbal attack; he decided not to be polite either.
Liu Xiaoyan stood up in a fury, intending to continue berating him, when she suddenly remembered her urgent need. If she didn't get to the restroom immediately, she was going to have an accident right there. She turned and hobbled as fast as she could toward the restroom.
"Sigh, that must be a lady going through menopause," He Haoxuan muttered to himself, shaking his head at her fierce demeanor. If you offended a woman like that, you would be in for trouble. Especially for a man as handsome and charismatic as him, he was practically a magnet for such middle-aged women.
He Haoxuan continued walking inside, and after a few turns, he finally found a room labeled "Department Manager's Office."
"Knock, knock, knock." He Haoxuan knocked on the door.
"Come in," a gentle voice replied from inside.
He Haoxuan pushed the door open and saw a very pretty young woman inside. She was standing by the desk, tidying up some files with a very focused expression.
"Excuse me, is Manager Liu Xiaoyan in?" He Haoxuan asked, glancing at the young woman. "Don't bother answering—you definitely aren't her; you're far too young and beautiful."
He Haoxuan assumed that since this was the manager's office, this young woman must be the manager. What did it matter if she was young? She was about the same age as his wife, and since his wife was already a general manager, there was no reason this woman couldn't be a department manager.
However, He Haoxuan wanted to flatter this beauty to gain her favor, which would make his life in the Sales Department much easier. Most importantly, he wanted the freedom to come and go as he pleased without having to work. As the saying goes, flattery will get you everywhere.
"I—" The girl started to speak, but He Haoxuan interrupted her again.
"Beautiful Manager, please, don't say anything. Although I doubted you were our Sales Manager, now that I see you working here, I have to accept the facts. Sigh, I really didn't expect you to be the manager. I was expecting someone wearing big black-rimmed glasses and a stiff suit, looking like a total hag." He Haoxuan thought of the "hag" he had knocked over earlier. She had clearly bumped into him and then cursed at him; she was truly shameless.
"Are you talking about me?" A voice dripping with venom came from behind him.
He Haoxuan turned around to see the "hag" with the big black glasses, standing with her hands on her hips, glaring at him with seething rage.
"I am talking about you, lady. Why are you glaring at me? Have you never seen a handsome guy before? Look at this beautiful manager here—despite her high position, she is gentle, generous, and treats me exceptionally well. But you? You bumped into me, knocked me down, and instead of apologizing, you cursed at me. Is there anyone else in the world as shameless as you?" He Haoxuan grew more agitated as he spoke.
If it weren't for the fact that his wife was the general manager here and this job had been arranged privately by her, he would have given this "hag" a piece of his mind.
The young woman was pale with fright. She had just come in to report to the manager, and the manager had told her to wait while she grabbed some tissues and rushed out. The young woman knew where the manager had gone, so she had waited inside. Since she was idle, she had started tidying the desk—she was, after all, the manager's assistant.
She had never expected this handsome man to enter and immediately mistake her for the manager, praising her endlessly. That would have been fine, but the problem was that he shouldn't have spoken to the manager like that, nor should he have painted such a terrible picture of her.
Liu Xiaoyan was so angry she felt like she might vomit blood. She had never encountered such a rogue. He had knocked her down, then barged into her office to flirt with her assistant and slander her. Where did she look like a middle-aged woman? She was only thirty; she just dressed a bit conservatively!
"Get out of here right now, or I'm calling security!" Liu Xiaoyan pointed at He Haoxuan's nose and screamed.
"Hmph, which department are you from to dare tell me to get out?" He Haoxuan was losing his temper too. He was the general manager's husband; whoever offended him should be the one to get out.
Wait, that wasn't right. His wife had told him not to reveal his identity and to keep a low profile. Thinking of this, He Haoxuan deliberately asked with great poise, "Hello, I am an employee of the Sales Department. Where are you from? By what right are you telling me to get out?"
"I am the Manager of the Sales Department!" Liu Xiaoyan roared. "What is your name?"
"That's hilarious. If you're the manager, then I'm the manager's grandfather," He Haoxuan retorted, equally incensed.
Deng Xi, standing to the side, was terrified and hurriedly whispered to He Haoxuan, "Don't talk nonsense! She really is our manager."
"Ah... beautiful, you're not the manager?" He Haoxuan panicked. He had come here to butter up the Sales Manager for future favors, but now he had offended her instead.
Deng Xi shook her head and said, "I am Manager Liu's assistant, Deng Xi."
"Wow, 'Deng Xi' is a great name. It sounds so auspicious. With you by Manager Liu's side every day, you must bring her good luck. Right, Manager Liu?" He Haoxuan turned to flatter Liu Xiaoyan.
Liu Xiaoyan shrieked, "Deng Xi, call security immediately! Someone is impersonating our staff; they must be up to no good!" As a dignified Sales Manager, she had never seen someone so arrogant; the man clearly had malicious intent.
"Yes, Manager, I'm calling the security department now," Deng Xi said, hurriedly picking up the office phone.
