Chapter 136: Wanda and Vision
“Um... could you let go of me first?”
Wanda was rather bewildered. This man was far too enthusiastic—he had thrown his arms around her the moment they met. She was a little angry, but managed to hold it in.
“Sorry. I got carried away. My name is Yohn Arthur. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Arthur released Wanda and spoke with some embarrassment. He had simply been too excited.
Suddenly, a figure passed straight through the wall and appeared before the three of them. Looking at Arthur, who was standing in front of Wanda, he demanded, “Who are you?”
“Vision, why did you come in like that again?” Wanda asked, looking at him.
“I saw that the door was open, so I came in. Who is he?”
Vision pointed at Arthur. Seeing how close Arthur was standing to Wanda made him somewhat displeased. Besides, there was something strangely familiar about Arthur.
“My name is Yohn Arthur. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Arthur extended his hand toward Vision.
“My name is Vision. The pleasure is mine.”
Although Vision did not particularly like Arthur, he still shook his hand.
“How do you have the same energy signature as the gem in Loki’s scepter?”
As Vision held Arthur’s hand, he sensed a faint energy fluctuation within him. There was no mistaking it—it was the same energy signature as the gem embedded in his own forehead.
Wanda and Steve Rogers both turned their eyes toward Arthur. The gem was set into Vision’s forehead, so how could Arthur possess the same energy signature?
“The gem from the Scepter of Loki in our universe really is inside me...”
Since Vision had discovered it, Arthur admitted it frankly. He trusted that the three of them would not reveal the secret.
“Our universe? What does that mean?” Wanda asked.
Steve Rogers explained Arthur’s origins to Wanda and Vision. Both of them were deeply shocked after hearing the story. Vision accepted it relatively well, since his mind contained an enormous amount of knowledge. Wanda, however, was stunned. She had never imagined that countless parallel universes could exist.
“There’s no Vision in your universe?” Wanda asked.
If the gem from the scepter was inside Arthur, then what had happened to Vision?
“No. Ultron obtained Vision’s body, and in the end, we destroyed him together,” Arthur replied.
“Then... what about me in that world? What happened to me afterward?”
Wanda could not imagine how she could have lived in a world without Vision.
“After I rescued you and Pietro in Sokovia, the two of you lived at my house. The three of us lived together. Oh, and there was a cat, too. My relationship with you is much like yours with Vision, so I was a little overwhelmed when I saw you just now. I’m sorry.”
Arthur found it somewhat difficult to explain this to Wanda. He did not want her to think he had ulterior motives.
After hearing Arthur’s words, Vision’s hostility toward him suddenly intensified. This blond man was rather handsome, and he possessed an Infinity Stone as well. He might very well become a formidable rival in the future.
Vision made up his mind. From now on, he would keep a close watch on Arthur’s every move.
Wanda was also startled by Arthur’s words. In another universe, she was together with him? And Pietro was still alive?
Once she considered the possibility, she found that it was not entirely unacceptable. No wonder she had felt an inexplicable fondness for him from the moment they met. It turned out that he also carried the energy of an Infinity Stone.
Steve Rogers stood to the side, quietly enjoying the spectacle. He had learned another juicy secret today. The trip had been worthwhile.
“Please keep this confidential,” Arthur told the three of them. “The fact that the gem is inside me cannot be revealed to anyone else for now. My injuries haven’t healed, and I have no way to protect myself if danger arises.”
“Don’t worry. We’ll keep it secret. Your room is just ahead, and if anything happens, we’ll protect you,” Steve Rogers said firmly.
Wanda and Vision both nodded, indicating that they would keep Arthur’s secret. Wanda then asked him question after question, and Arthur patiently answered each one.
Steve Rogers and Vision could both see that Arthur treated Wanda differently. Vision suddenly felt a sourness in his chest, but he could only endure it. This emotion had appeared ever since he and Wanda had become a couple, but today it was particularly intense.
According to the descriptions in his database, this feeling was called... jealousy?
“All right, let’s go,” Steve Rogers said, noticing that Vision looked as though he were about to turn villainous. “We shouldn’t disturb Wanda and Vision. I’ll show you to your room.”
He could tell that Wanda was in much better spirits after meeting Arthur. She had already emerged from her guilt. The rest could be left to Vision.
“All right, then I’ll be going,” Arthur said as he rose to his feet. “I won’t disturb you any longer. Don’t overthink things, and get some rest.”
“All right. You should take good care of your injuries, too,” Wanda replied.
“By the way, Steve, Stark is waiting for you in the conference room. He said it was something important,” Vision said.
“Okay. I’ll be down right away.”
After saying this, Steve Rogers led Arthur away.
“Come on. Let’s go to the conference room as well,” Vision said to Wanda.
Wanda nodded, changed her clothes, and went with Vision to the conference room.
Steve Rogers led Arthur to a room at the end of the corridor and asked, “Whose room is this in your world?”
“Peter Parker’s,” Arthur replied.
“Who is Peter Parker?” Steve Rogers asked. He had never heard the name before.
“You’ll meet him soon enough,” Arthur said mysteriously.
“All right. This will be your room for now. It has everything you need. Get some rest. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll leave you to it.”
After speaking, Steve Rogers departed.
Arthur watched his retreating back and sighed. He opened the door and entered the room. It truly had everything one could need.
He opened the refrigerator, took out a bottle of beer, and began to drink. During the past month, the person he had missed most was Wanda. Seeing her just now had filled him with excitement, but learning that the Wanda of this universe was together with Vision had left him feeling somewhat jealous.
Ha! What did he have to be jealous about?
The most important thing now was to recover his abilities as quickly as possible so that he could return to his own universe and see Wanda.
Wanda must be terribly worried about whether he was alive or dead. Once Arthur had thought things through, he sat cross-legged on the floor and entered a meditative state.
...
In Arthur’s universe
After Wanda awoke, she began frantically researching Dormammu in the library, hoping to find some clue to Arthur’s whereabouts.
She refused to believe that Arthur had simply died, leaving nothing behind. She could not accept it.
Stephen Strange came to Wanda and pressed down the book she was frantically turning through.
“Don’t do this. You haven’t rested or eaten for several days, and you’re still injured. You need to get some proper rest.”
“No! I have to find where Arthur may have gone. I’m going to rescue him!” Wanda said firmly.
“All right. Over the past few days, I’ve also been studying the Book of Cagliostro again. I discovered the knowledge of the multiverse that Arthur had been learning.”
Wanda raised her head and looked at Stephen.
“You remember what happened, don’t you? The energy sphere created by Dormammu produced a tremendous explosion and even formed a wormhole,” Stephen said.
Wanda nodded. How could she ever forget what had happened?
“I estimate that Arthur was sucked into the wormhole. He possesses two Infinity Stones, so he wouldn’t have died that easily. He most likely crossed through the multiverse and ended up somewhere else.”
Stephen’s analysis was almost certainly correct.
When Wanda heard his words, her eyes brightened. Of course—Arthur must have fallen into the wormhole. But where had he gone, and how could they find him?
“I have a way. Once I master the Eye of Agamotto, I’ll be able to travel back through time to that moment. Then I can obtain information about Arthur from the wormhole,” Stephen said.
“Really?”
Wanda seized Stephen’s trembling hand and asked excitedly.
“Don’t worry. Leave it to me. Never mind that my hand is shaking this badly—learning magic is still very easy for me.”
Stephen patted his chest and promised her this, though in truth he had little confidence. Watching Wanda grow thinner by the day, he feared that she was on the verge of losing herself to madness.
For now, he could only calm her down, get her to eat something and rest, and then think of another solution.
“I’ll solve the problem with your hands,” Wanda said directly.
“All right. You heal my hands, and I’ll find Arthur for you.”
Stephen did not take her words seriously. He could not even cure himself, so how could Wanda possibly have a solution?
“Good. It’s a promise!”
Wanda looked at Stephen and smiled.
He had no idea that she had a cat at home capable of healing almost any injury.
