Chapter 103: The Battle of Wakanda
Beside the Wakandan royal palace, on the broad plaza, warriors from the Border Tribe were loading vibranium weapons into crates, preparing them for transport. The ships were poised to carry these arms beyond Wakanda’s borders, delivering them into the hands of the factions Erik had arranged.
"Everything is proceeding as planned, Your Majesty!" W'Kabi reported to Erik.
"Have my people received the notification?" Erik asked.
"Yes, but some members oppose our new mission. The organizations in London, New York, and Hong Kong are standing by!" W'Kabi replied. Erik nodded, reassured that at least a few groups were supporting him.
Once these men handed the vibranium weapons to the designated factions, the world would be plunged into war, and those armed with vibranium would be invincible.
"We’ll attack a few places first. Others will weigh their options, and then they’ll contact us," Erik said to W'Kabi.
Okoye, Captain of the Royal Guards, frowned nearby. She could not openly oppose the new king’s plan, yet she knew that under Erik’s rule, Wakanda might be doomed.
"Vibranium weapons are truly extraordinary. The world will finally witness our true power!" Erik exclaimed, turning a vibranium spear in his hands and watching the first transport ship soar proudly into the distance.
Boom!
Suddenly, an explosion shattered the air—the transport ship was shot down and crashed onto the nearby plain.
Erik led everyone to the edge of the plaza, rushing to see what had happened. How could there be an enemy attack?
There, amidst the wreckage, stood a man clad in the black Panther suit. His nano-helmet faded, revealing his face.
It was Prince T’Challa, the one thrown from the cliff during the king’s challenge! He had returned!
Erik saw T’Challa and felt a surge of foreboding. Okoye and the Royal Guards were elated—T’Challa was alive!
A figure descended from the sky to land beside T’Challa—it was War Machine, Rhodes. Falcon, Sam Wilson, hovered above, while Winter Soldier, Bucky, Ant-Man, Scott Lang, Spider-Man, Peter Parker, and Quicksilver, Pietro, all gathered at T’Challa’s side.
Roaring chants echoed—M’Baku had arrived with the Jabari tribe’s mighty gorilla warriors, wielding heavy hammers and forming ranks behind T’Challa.
Erik clenched his fists, watching the arrival of T’Challa, the Avengers, and the Jabari army. He had not expected their return—and he could not allow them to sabotage his plans.
But then he remembered Ultron, and his anxiety eased. Ultron’s iron legion should be nearly complete; if things went awry, he would call on Ultron, and—if need be—wipe out everyone in Wakanda.
"Erik!" T’Challa called out with a loud voice.
"What do you want?" Erik shouted back.
"You colluded with Ultron to murder the king! You’re unfit to rule Wakanda. I challenge you again—to avenge my father!" T’Challa declared.
The Wakandans’ faces changed at T’Challa’s words. Was the old king’s death linked to Erik?
"What proof do you have that I killed the king? You’re the one colluding with outsiders, standing with the Jabari! What right have you to challenge me? I am the king now, Black Panther!" Erik retorted.
"Don’t listen to him! Continue the mission. W’Kabi, kill him!" Erik ordered the Border Tribe.
The Border warriors hesitated for a moment, but then moved to activate the transport ships, preparing to smuggle the vibranium weapons out.
"W’Kabi, the challenge isn’t over! You can’t do this!" Okoye protested.
W’Kabi looked at T’Challa, the outsiders, and the Jabari, and chose to trust Erik.
"Border Tribe! Destroy them!" W’Kabi ordered.
Roaring, the blue-caped Border warriors, wielding curved blades, charged at the Avengers. An airborne Border Tribe ship veered toward them.
"You! You’re involved in the old king’s death, and now you seek war! You’re unfit to be king!" Okoye leveled her spear at Erik, and the Royal Guards raised their weapons, ready to attack.
Erik drew his twin blades, golden light flashing across his body as a black-and-gold Panther suit materialized.
"Come on!" Erik joined battle with the Royal Guards.
"Jabari Tribe, charge!" M’Baku led his army, following T’Challa into combat against the Border Tribe.
The Avengers advanced with the Jabari, Sam and Rhodes taking to the skies, opening fire on the Border Tribe’s ship.
"Defensive formation!" barked a Border Tribe leader. The warriors at the front halted, forming a line and raising their blue capes.
Instantly, blue energy shields blossomed, merging into a wall—their capes, woven from vibranium, generated the shields.
T’Challa’s Panther suit absorbed the laser blasts from the Border Tribe’s ship, building energy. He leapt into the midst of their formation and unleashed the suit’s stored power.
The blue-shielded warriors were blown away, and the defensive line shattered.
Sam and Colonel Rhodes kept up their machine-gun barrage on the Border Tribe ship, but its defenses held—the hull was vibranium.
T’Challa seized a spear and hurled it at the ship overhead; the vibranium shaft pierced the hull, and the ship exploded, plummeting to the earth.
The Avengers and Jabari warriors reached the Border Tribe fighters, and the battle erupted.
Bucky charged at W’Kabi, his metal right fist smashing him aside in an instant.
Peter Parker engaged in close combat with the Border warriors, matching their vibranium blades, and even trapping opponents with webbing.
Scott Lang shrank and bounced through the ranks, striking enemies before they could even see him.
Most astonishing was Pietro; a dozen foes couldn’t track his movements before he knocked them to the ground. For him, dispatching Wakandans was effortless.
The Jabari fought fiercely, bare-chested, their spears whirling as they battled the Border Tribe.
W’Kabi, seeing his side faltering, scrambled atop a boulder, pulled out a horn carved from a rhino’s horn, and blew it.
T’Challa’s expression changed—he recognized the Border Tribe’s rhino summoning call.
Suddenly, the ground trembled as a dozen massive rhinoceroses, clad in vibranium armor, charged the Jabari.
They crashed into the ranks, sending warriors flying and inflicting heavy casualties.
Bucky was knocked aside by a rhino, but blocked the blow with his metal arm, escaping injury. W’Kabi leapt onto the rhino, charging at the others...
