The woman outside, holding a child, looked pitiful, but Su Miao only glanced at her before ignoring her. She guessed the woman probably lived in one of the nearby villas and, upon seeing Su Miao and Xia Xiao'an move in, came over to seek help.

But was she really here for help?

If she truly had a child, she would never have been out in such a torrential rainstorm carrying the child. Even adults would feel their faces sting in this downpour and easily catch a cold if they weren't careful. If a child caught a cold and fever and didn't receive timely treatment, death could come all too easily.

Therefore, Su Miao's first reaction was disbelief toward the woman outside asking for help.

Considering the possibility that the front door might be damaged, Su Miao debated whether she should go downstairs to take precautions.

No matter who it was, if anyone tried to break her door again, she would not hesitate to kill them.

"Big sister, there are two more people hiding outside, and they're holding something," Xia Xiao'an said, her body trembling, as she warned her.

Two more people hiding?

Su Miao glanced at the surveillance feed again. In its field of view, there was only the woman holding the child—no sign of anyone else. She looked down from the upstairs window and still saw no one else in hiding.

"They're probably in a blind spot, just out of sight of the camera," Xia Xiao'an added.

So that's how it was. Su Miao shivered involuntarily.

She had to find a way to kill them. If the door was broken open again, they would have nowhere to live.

She headed straight downstairs.

Xia Xiao'an was a little stunned—why was Su Miao going downstairs?

At the entrance, Su Miao took out more than ten door chains to secure the door, then carefully unlocked it.

The woman holding the child outside brightened with joy.

An hour earlier, she had clearly seen Su Miao and Xia Xiao'an enter the villa together—no men in sight the entire time.

There were only two girls inside. If she could grab them, they would be completely at her mercy. With any luck, there might even be plenty of food in their suitcase.

She was starving.

That was why she had persisted in ringing the doorbell, even in the torrential rain.

Bang!

Almost the instant the lock clicked open, a middle-aged man launched himself at the door with full force.

The impact snapped several of the chains Su Miao had just added, but the door held firm and didn't fly open.

The man prepared for a second charge.

Through the narrow opening, he saw a pretty girl inside, trembling as if terrified.

But was she really scared?

If she were truly frightened, could she shoot an arrow straight into his head?

Damn it!

Blood streamed down his forehead. A wave of indescribable pain and darkness swept over him. In the blink of an eye, he fell, dead beyond all doubt.

The man hiding in another blind spot realized something had gone wrong and rushed out to help his fallen companion.

His luck was terrible—his head emerged just in time to enter Su Miao's firing line.

Startled, Su Miao loosed a second arrow, which pierced his temple with perfect accuracy.

He fell as well.

There really was another one!

The end of the world had only just begun, and already these starving people were trying to rob and harm others.

But these two were sorely lacking in combat experience. Especially after one fell, the other didn't know what to do and ended up foolishly exposing himself.

Outside, the woman saw both men collapse. She dropped the child she was holding and lunged forward, wailing in anguish.

"Husband! Husband, what's wrong?!"

"Husband, wake up!"

Her cries were loud and mournful.

"You little bitch, you killed my husband—I'll make you pay with your life!"

After a few seconds of grief, she sprang at Su Miao, hands outstretched to claw her to death.

Su Miao was terrified. She lifted her crossbow and, trembling, let an arrow fly at the ferocious woman.

Struck, the woman seemed to realize the horror of death at last. She reached out at the empty air, then collapsed.

A whole family, together in death.

Xia Xiao'an came to Su Miao's side and said, "There's no one alive outside now."

No matter how many times she witnessed Su Miao, scared yet decisive, dealing with bad people, Xia Xiao'an could never quite understand it.

But at least they were safe.

After a few moments, Su Miao calmed down.

There was no longer any malice outside—the threat was gone.

She opened the door, intending to check on the child the woman had tossed into the rain, only to find the child had already been swept more than thirty meters away by the floodwaters.

Su Miao hurried over, picked up the child, and checked.

The child's face was pale, pupils dilated, and there was no breath at all—clearly, the child had been dead for some time.

Su Miao's judgment had been correct.

The child had never belonged to the woman. Otherwise, she would never have left the child out in the torrential rain, let alone thrown it into the water to be washed away. Besides, the whole time, the child never made a sound.

How pitiful.

Su Miao laid the infant's body back in the water to be carried off by the rushing rain.

She returned to the villa entrance, retrieved her arrows, cleaned them, and set them aside for future use.

When she finished, she prepared to push the three corpses at the door into the rainwater.

"Sister Su, let me help you," Xia Xiao'an offered.

"Alright," Su Miao nodded.

The three corpses were rather heavy this time. Together, she and Xia Xiao'an managed to push them into the rushing water.

Because the rain was only about twenty centimeters deep, it didn't carry the bodies away as quickly as before. It took over ten minutes for the current to sweep them into the landslide zone.

After all this effort, Su Miao and Xia Xiao'an's freshly changed dry clothes were soaked through again.

A cold wind blew, making Su Miao shiver.

"Let's go take a shower," she said, leading Xia Xiao'an back into the villa and locking the door behind them.

"Sister, I don't have any dry clothes left," Xia Xiao'an said, blinking.

"I have a JK uniform you can wear," Su Miao replied.

A few minutes later, she rummaged through her magical space and found an old, unused JK uniform.

Seeing the brand-new uniform, Xia Xiao'an blinked—she was sure she hadn't seen it in the suitcase when Su Miao had packed earlier.

Was this magic?

She didn't know. She was curious, but didn't ask.

Night fell. Owing to various factors, no fighting broke out in the tourist area.

Fei Chengqiang's group had suffered loss after loss, and the morale of the people they had gathered was at rock bottom. Forcing another assault on the villa district in the dark would only end badly.

Meanwhile, Brother Long's group, having acquired fresh meat and luxury cars they'd never dreamed of driving, were busy with their spoils and had no time for more trouble.

In the cave, Security Captain Chang Jieming opened ten bottles of fine wine and feasted with dozens of security guards.

After so many days of hunger, tonight they were finally full and relaxed.

As midnight approached and sleep overcame them, one drunken guard glanced around and asked, "Has anyone seen Old He or Little Chen?"

"Weren't they just here eating and drinking?"

"I didn't see them leave."

"Where could they have gone?"

The guards mumbled among themselves, all a little drunk.

Chang Jieming suddenly jolted awake and sprang to his feet. "Everyone, wake up! Wake up!"

He remembered two men had headed toward the back of the cave—was it an hour ago, or two? They still hadn't returned.

Something had happened.
