Chapter 135: When Awkwardness Becomes Hopeless
After a long day of hard work, Jason was utterly exhausted. Returning to the apartment building, he headed straight for the master bedroom. Upon entering, he saw Tina approaching with a bright smile, holding a box of wild dried fruits and playfully offering him one.
Jason chewed a few times; the sweet and sour flavor was quite pleasant.
"Jason, you've worked hard today!" Tina said, feeding him another piece.
"I'm not in the mood for this right now!" Jason replied, swallowing the fruit with a smile as he reached out to close the door.
"What do you want to eat then?" Tina asked.
"What do you think?" Jason pulled her close, embracing her and planting a gentle kiss on her lips.
"Wait!" Tina hurriedly pushed him away.
"What's wrong?" Jason looked at his wife, puzzled.
Tina’s cheeks flushed slightly. “Today… today’s not a good day…”
"Are you not feeling well?" Jason asked with concern.
"Yeah," Tina nodded repeatedly.
"Is it one of those days every month?"
"Yes, exactly!" Tina responded immediately.
"Then why didn’t you say anything during the day?"
"Uh…" Tina scratched her head awkwardly. "Don’t ask so much! It’s a woman’s business."
"So what am I supposed to do?" Jason sighed in frustration.
"Shh," Tina whispered, "I've already made arrangements for you."
"Perin?" Jason frowned. "Although she’s rather dull, I guess I can make do..."
"No!" Tina bit her lip and looked down. "You have to promise you won’t get angry first... Though I doubt you would; you might even be happy."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Jason looked at her.
"Remember when you asked me to test if Christina was really clueless or just pretending?" Tina glanced at him slyly. "I couldn’t tell either, so I told her some ridiculous fake facts. But she still didn’t react—she followed everything obediently, without a hint of suspicion. Like that daytime cheek-kissing ritual..."
"Ah, you mean that?" Jason’s face reddened at the mention.
"But now we’ll find out for sure if she’s truly clueless!" Tina gently nudged him. "Go sleep in the spare bedroom next to Perin’s room. I’ve converted the study into a bedroom. She’ll be in there. If she runs away, it means she was faking before. If she stays, well, you’re in luck..."
"Ridiculous!" Jason finally understood, reaching out to gently stroke his wife’s hair. "So when you said you weren’t feeling well, that was a lie?"
"Yes, I’m sorry..." Tina lowered her head, unable to meet his gaze.
"Weren’t you jealous before? And now this?" Jason chuckled, pulling her onto the bed and lying beside her. "Doesn’t it bother you?"
"Jason, you’ll only grow stronger and gain more followers," Tina rested her head on his chest softly. "And with that, more women will desire you. As your first wife, I can barely help and only seem to cause trouble. Even though I’m useless, I will silently support you with all my might, hoping you’ll always keep a place for me in your heart..."
"You fool!" Hearing this, Jason was moved and held her tightly. "If it weren’t for that strange fruit before, I wouldn’t have touched Perin at all. Since we were married under the blessing of the god of love, you are my only wife for life. Having you is enough—I don’t want any trouble!"
"What about Perin?" Tina asked.
"Perin is also mine, but only out of responsibility. In my heart, you are the only wife." Jason spoke sincerely; if not for the earlier incident with the strange fruit, he wouldn’t have involved Perin.
"Jason, you’re so wonderful," Tina hugged him tightly with tears of gratitude.
"As long as you know that!" Jason kissed her flawless cheek. "So stop pretending to be sick. Let’s sleep."
"But... but…" Tina blushed. "I was already prepared! Why don’t you go sleep over there? I know how you feel, but as you become stronger, you’ll surely need more than just me and Perin! And don’t you want to find out if Christina is really good at pretending?"
"That doesn’t matter to me at all!" Jason smiled lightly and gently pried her hands apart.
"Jason…" Despite her embarrassed and hesitant expression, Tina’s eyes sparkled with joy.
Meanwhile, Christina sat dazed in the spare bedroom assigned to her, having failed to overcome her inner demon.
Jason, the master of this city and the victor of the war, had a wife named Tina who had taught Christina many customs she had never heard of. As a member of the austere sect, Christina had rarely left the Church of Light, seldom interacting with ordinary priests. Her days were mostly spent learning light magic and combat skills from her teacher or meditating silently.
Thus, Christina was quite unfamiliar with the outside world, only occasionally enriching her knowledge through books, which mostly contained church doctrines and continental histories. As such, she was extremely curious about worldly knowledge and absorbed it quickly.
Lady Tina taught her many etiquette rules and local customs, including the fact that female war prisoners were expected to sleep with Jason.
Christina was puzzled—why would female prisoners have to sleep with Jason?
She recalled that when she was very young, she often shared a bed with her teacher. But as she grew older, the teacher refused to share a bed with her and insisted she sleep alone.
She sat there foolishly waiting, but nothing happened. Tina had said Jason would come quickly.
Lost in thought, she suddenly slipped into meditation.
After a while, she awoke from her trance, hearing Tina’s voice, which sounded like she was crying.
Curious, Christina stood and left the room.
She remembered that when she made mistakes at the church, her teacher would whip her hands with a cane, which made her cry.
Could it be that Tina did something wrong and Jason was punishing her?
Tina was so kind—shouldn’t she help plead for her?
With that thought, Christina nodded slightly and strode towards the master bedroom.
Along the way, she passed Perin, expressionless as she stood by the spare bedroom door. Christina nodded in greeting.
Perin glanced at her but said nothing.
Feeling awkward, Christina stepped past Perin, thinking she was difficult to get along with. She then gently pushed open the master bedroom door.
"Lord Jason, are you punishing Lady Tina? Could you please go easy on her? Huh? You’re not hitting her? Then why is Lady Tina crying? Why aren’t you both dressed? Is this some special training?"
Jason: "…"
Tina: "…"
Perin: "…"
"What’s going on? Huh! Lord Jason, why are you different from us?"
"Get out!!" Jason finally snapped out of it, hurriedly pulling the covers over them and shouting angrily.
