Chapter 50: The Son Who Attracts Envy (Second Update)
Half an hour later, Luo Yunhuang stepped into the Crimson Flower Pavilion, carrying little Mumu in her arms. Mumu nestled against her, enjoying the embrace as if he was closer to her than to his own mother.
She sat down, smoothing her tawny hair with a hint of irritation. “I've used too much poison these past few days and accidentally poisoned myself. My hair has changed color—it’ll take days to recover. Truly vexing.”
Yun Feiyue exchanged a glance with Chunhua, who hurriedly brought out a chest and placed it on the table.
Yun Feiyue pushed the chest toward Luo Yunhuang. “This is this year’s tuition: silver and top-grade Blood Spirit Stones. Please take a look.”
Luo Yunhuang smiled as she opened the chest, nodding approvingly at its contents. “These are truly fine things! Thank you! I promise to teach little Mumu to be as charming as I am!”
Well, Yun Feiyue had her worries, but Luo Yunhuang’s expertise with poisons was indeed impressive. From her appearance and name, it was impossible to deduce her age or background. At first glance, she seemed seventeen or eighteen, but who knew if she hadn’t lived a hundred or two hundred years already?
On this continent, where martial arts could grant divine powers, monsters living for centuries were common. Yun Feiyue dared not lower her guard.
“May I ask, Miss Luo, from which family did you study?”
Luo Yunhuang merely smiled mysteriously. “That’s a secret. My master would kill me if I told. After all, I’ve already been expelled from my sect. And, it seems I have no obligation to tell you.”
Yun Feiyue smiled with pursed lips. Indeed, there was no obligation. Still… “I hope you won’t do anything to displease me.”
Little Mumu nuzzled Luo Yunhuang’s cheek with a grin. “Mother, don’t bully Sister. Sister smells so nice.”
Luo Yunhuang affectionately pinched Mumu’s cheek. “Breathe, eat this…”
She produced a red pill. Yun Dao immediately intervened, “Miss Yunhuang, please don’t give the young master anything randomly.”
Luo Yunhuang sighed and put the pill away. “This pill guarantees immunity to all poisons. It was meant as a gift for Mumu upon our first meeting. Don’t you trust me? If not, why invite me at all?”
She sighed deeply.
Yun Feiyue propped her head with one hand, the other resting idly by her side, speaking lazily. “My apologies. Little Mumu’s constitution is special; he can’t take medicines carelessly. I invited you because there’s another matter I need your help with.”
Luo Yunhuang didn’t seem to mind Yun Feiyue’s words, replying casually, “What help? As long as it’s not hard labor, I’m fine.”
Yun Feiyue brought out a stack of silver notes, displaying the attitude of the truly wealthy. She looked at Luo Yunhuang. “I need you to concoct a large amount of poison that induces unconsciousness. It’s useful.”
Luo Yunhuang accepted the silver notes, smiling lightly. “I thought it was something difficult. Well, it’ll be ready by this afternoon. Want to make it together?”
Such quick agreement—money truly is almighty.
Still, Yun Feiyue did not relax her vigilance. Luo Yunhuang’s origins were unclear, and if not for the old master urgently needing a poison expert, she would not have let Mumu near her.
Ever since little Mumu gained his busty master, he no longer clung to his mother. Carefree, he spent his days circling around Luo Yunhuang.
Yun Feiyue, bored, leaned at the window, a jade bowl in one hand and a ladle in the other, scooping bird’s nest porridge as her gaze drifted toward the opposite Yanyang Pavilion.
The pavilion was quiet; Mo Feiyuan hadn’t shown himself these past days.
Just then, beneath the pear blossom tree in Yanyang Pavilion, two familiar figures appeared: little Mumu and Luo Yunhuang.
Yun Feiyue’s face showed a hint of doubt. Was Mumu asking Luo Yunhuang for help?
He gesticulated, pointing inside and then outside. Luo Yunhuang nodded, then scattered something on a nearby tree before leaving, wearing a sinister smile.
After a while, Momei came out, trailing behind Mo Feiyuan.
Mo Feiyuan headed toward the Crimson Flower Pavilion, while Momei went another way. Yun Feiyue hurriedly closed the window and descended the pavilion.
Just as Mo Feiyuan entered.
“Miss Yun, I’ve come to bid farewell. The Tianwu Rankings are about to begin, and I must return to prepare. The Forest of Phoenix Heaven will soon be open, and arrangements are needed to secure it.” Mo Feiyuan explained more than usual, making himself feel unaccustomed.
Of course, it was even more unusual for Yun Feiyue to listen. He was always aloof, never needing to report his actions to her.
Yet, for reasons unknown, his words soothed her heart. He did, after all, care a little.
“Alright. We’ll see each other at the Tianwu Rankings.” She waved with a smile.
Mo Feiyuan nodded and left.
As always, he departed. Busy! How busy could he be?
Fine, she realized her own fussiness. If he wanted to leave, what business was it of hers? She silently berated herself.
Watching Mo Feiyuan go, Yun Feiyue suddenly sighed softly, unsure why.
Little Mumu and Luo Yunhuang entered from outside, both smiling and waving at Yun Feiyue.
“Feiyue, don’t worry. Next time we meet, they’ll definitely seek you out!” Little Mumu grabbed Yun Feiyue’s hand with one hand, raising the other high in a victorious gesture.
Seeing this, Yun Feiyue immediately sensed trouble. He only acted this happy after setting someone up.
“Out with it. What did you do this time? Whose beauty’s underwear did you hide?”
Little Mumu lifted his chin proudly. “This time it’s even more amazing! Xiao Huang and I sprinkled itching powder on Momei. She’ll be itching all over, unsatisfied, irritable. Next time, they won’t forget Mother!”
Yun Feiyue’s mouth twitched. Indeed, there were many ways to make oneself memorable—sometimes through hatred. With a son so skilled at drawing enmity, Yun Feiyue would never know peace.
