Chapter 161: The Celestial Clan
When the time came, he would not only be able to break free from his agent and draw divine power directly from Heliopolis, but if the gods’ retreat continued to lengthen, he might even surpass the Nine Pillar Gods and become the supreme deity of the Egyptian pantheon.
It was precisely for this reason that his attitude shifted so quickly upon seeing the Book of Darkness. And it was this urgency that caused him to unwittingly fall into Gu Chongyan’s trap.
Peering into the memory, Gu Chongyan sighed, realizing the unexpected connection between the Book of Darkness and the Egyptian gods.
Just as he was reflecting, a crisp cracking sound rang out.
The ring pressed against Khonsu’s falcon skull suddenly shattered. The blue gemstone was riddled with cracks, resembling a spider’s web ready to collapse at any moment.
Clearly, the deity’s mind was vast beyond measure. Using the Mind Amplification Ring and the Slytherin pendant to suppress him could only be temporary, not eternal.
The Book of Darkness was tied to the Pantheon Khonsu held most dear. Even the power of fear could not completely drown his spirit.
As the memory was probed deeper, Khonsu’s consciousness began to fight back.
Fortunately, having obtained what he sought, Gu Chongyan decided to withdraw the magic.
But at that moment, drawn by the power of fear, Khonsu’s Sea of Memories revealed the image of his second greatest fear.
Above the boundless starry sky, a colossal figure emerged in Khonsu’s memory.
A towering golden body hundreds of meters tall, like a technological construct forged from metal, with three furnace-like red eyes fixed intently on Earth.
Staring at this figure, even larger than Ultraman, Gu Chongyan, who was about to withdraw his magic, froze.
Could this be the Celestials?
The Celestials are among the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, second only to the Bug-Level Transcendent Gods.
Born from the eternal collaboration of Marvel’s Five Great Gods, the Celestials are creators of most life in the universe. They can create, alter, or destroy entire planets with their divine power, and effortlessly slay cosmic beings.
Their godly creative power enables them to perform acts as simple as injecting cancer cells into a human body. This power draws its energy from the core of their homeworld.
Each Celestial stands thousands of feet tall, clad in impenetrable armor. No one knows what lies beneath their steel helmets or their true origins.
They create universes and life-bearing worlds. Every adult Celestial possesses strength on a multiversal scale; even average Celestial Fathers are formidable opponents.
Odin once defeated a weaker Celestial but was subsequently crushed by others, illustrating the terrifying might of their kind.
The Celestials are integral to the universe’s operation. They fill the void with stars, light the dim cosmos, and sow seeds of life on barren planets to rejuvenate them.
In this regard, the Celestials are positive forces, having brought forth many magnificent worlds and unique lifeforms.
Legends say they visited Earth during four distinct epochs, with some claiming they arrived a million years ago and created humanity.
However, the Celestials are not only creators but also destroyers.
After planting life on a planet, they observe its evolution. After countless years, they assess whether the lifeforms are “successful.”
If so, the beings continue; if deemed “failures,” the Celestials mercilessly annihilate them.
In the film Guardians of the Galaxy, a Celestial is shown destroying a planet using an Infinity Stone.
In the comic Extraordinary Avengers, the most powerful Celestial known as the Exterminator attempted to destroy Earth. To defeat him, the mischievous hero borrowed powers from every superhero and villain on Earth, breeding frantically to finally overcome him—testament to the Celestials’ fearsome power.
Now, appearing in Khonsu’s memory was naturally not the gigantic Exterminator standing twenty thousand feet tall, but rather a female Celestial whose shape was just barely discernible.
Her arrival further agitated Khonsu’s spirit, and the consciousness buried beneath the Sea of Minds began to violently assault Gu Chongyan’s mental defenses.
Gu Chongyan, about to reclaim the ring, pressed it firmly once more onto Khonsu’s skull.
Countless psychic energies poured into his mind, ignoring the crumbling ring, once again suppressing Khonsu’s will.
The scene continued to unfold.
The enormous female Celestial descended over Eastern Earth, atop a nine-story pagoda stood a middle-aged Confucian scholar dressed in traditional Chinese attire, wielding a golden spear, confronting her.
Then, for reasons unknown, the female Celestial departed Earth and journeyed into the depths of the sun.
Finally, unable to withstand the relentless psychic onslaught, the ring on Khonsu’s skull shattered completely.
The Slytherin pendant, forged on the foundation of the Mind Amplification Ring, wobbled precariously, on the verge of losing its hold.
Gu Chongyan snapped back to reality, withdrawing his magic and swiftly retreating.
“Despicable mortal, you seek your own death!!!”
With a furious roar, Khonsu’s figure swelled to an immense size. Filled with rage, he wielded his crescent-shaped weapon and struck fiercely at Gu Chongyan.
Gu Chongyan, long since drifting far into the sky, had already opened the Book of Darkness in his hands.
Tracing his fingers over the pages, surging magic poured forth with ancient incantations.
“Bladebone Chains!”
Amid flying dust, serpentine chains burst from the ground like colossal constrictors, writhing like the tentacles from the Cthulhu mythos, surging from all directions to entangle Khonsu’s staff.
Clang! Sparks flew as eight tentacle-like chains clattered and twisted mechanically, entwining with Khonsu’s weapon.
“Get lost!”
With a mighty shout, Khonsu swung his staff with the force of a mountain-shaking warrior. Moonlight shimmered upon it, and with a single sweep, he shattered all eight chains into fragments.
“Gryffindor’s Sword!”
With a soft snort, a silver sword inset with rubies appeared in Gu Chongyan’s hand.
Unyielding spirit and valiant courage manifested as a tangible, blade-like power, pressing down on Khonsu.
Compared to Khonsu’s towering form, Gu Chongyan wielding Gryffindor’s sword was like an insect brandishing a toothpick.
Yet size has never dictated the outcome of battle.
Though still smaller than Khonsu’s palm, when Gryffindor’s sword radiated a dazzling red light and the psychic flame transformed into a soaring phoenix, even a god could not underestimate him.
