Chapter Eight: The Legal Primary Heir
Luo Yixia sighed and replied to Yanyan: "It's too complicated to explain in a few words. Let's talk about it later." Then she exited the chat interface and started scrolling through her Moments.
With the holidays in full swing, her friends were all out enjoying themselves, showing off their relationships and their lives on social media. She herself hadn’t posted anything in a long time.
Unable to help herself, Luo Yixia glanced sideways at Song Chengyi, who was quietly reading beside her. The corners of her eyes curved unconsciously. Tapping on her phone, she composed a post and, satisfied, updated her Moments:
"Congratulations on becoming my legal first heir."
Luo Yixia couldn’t help but laugh again as she read it over. She had originally wanted to tag Song Chengyi at the end, but felt a bit too shy to do so.
Song Chengyi, too, noticed the constant, suppressed giggles from the person beside him. He turned slightly: "What’s so funny?"
The sudden question startled Luo Yixia. Perhaps feeling guilty, she hurriedly explained, "Oh, nothing, I just read a funny joke."
"Let me see." Song Chengyi, refusing to play by the rules, reached out his hand for her phone. Luo Yixia quickly hit the back button, and by the time Song Chengyi had the phone, it was already back on the home screen.
Of course, Song Chengyi noticed all these little maneuvers, but chose not to expose her, instead playing along with her act.
"Why is it gone?"
"Huh? Let me see." Luo Yixia feigned ignorance, craning her neck for a look, only to see the home screen. She took the phone back from Song Chengyi, scrolled through aimlessly, and said, "I must have accidentally swiped it away when I handed it to you."
"Mm, never mind then," Song Chengyi replied, sitting up straight and returning to his book, though out of the corner of his eye, he kept watch on Luo Yixia, who was secretly delighted to have dodged a bullet.
Once she saw that Song Chengyi wasn’t paying attention, Luo Yixia opened her phone again, went back to WeChat, and looked at her own post, carefully suppressing her smile. She saw that friends had already started commenting.
Yanyan: "Do you have an inheritance to entrust?"
Luo Yixia twitched her lips, truly not wanting to bother with her. There were even stranger and more ominous comments below... Luo Yixia nearly choked in exasperation.
Since when did she have cancer and urgently need an heir?
Or, since when did she secretly have a child already?
What bizarre ideas were these? Did everyone have a screw loose?
As the comments grew increasingly absurd, Luo Yixia flexed her fingers and began to fire back.
"Shut it, will you? When I asked you all to take me in, you played dead, and now you all crawl out of the woodwork?"
After that, the comments fell silent, though WeChat kept pinging with new messages.
All were apologies to Luo Yixia, saying they genuinely had things to do and were really unavailable...
All right, all right... Such "hypocritical" friends.
Still, Luo Yixia patiently replied to each of them, assuring them she was settled in and all was well, not really angry at anybody.
As she chatted, a serious thought occurred to her... She had only asked Song Chengyi to put her up for one night—did that mean she had to move out tomorrow?
What if her mother was still angry and refused to let her come home?
Just as she was growing anxious, Song Chengyi’s calm voice drifted over: "I have class tomorrow morning. While I’m out, go buy yourself any daily necessities you need."
