Chapter 65: Parting
After returning to the inn, Luo Yixia curled up in her own bed. The rain last night had left the air especially cool, but tonight, it seemed she had no reason to linger on Song Chengyi’s side.
“Go to bed early,” Song Chengyi said as he climbed into his bed, turning off the light at last.
She waited for a long while, but Song Chengyi neither spoke nor invited her over to his side. In the end, she pursed her lips, closed her eyes, and felt a wave of disappointment wash over her.
Likewise, Song Chengyi was waiting for Luo Yixia to slip into his bed. Yet, after a long time without hearing any movement from her side… Had she already fallen asleep?
Someone as proud as Song Chengyi would never take the initiative to speak up. He tossed and turned several times, finding himself not the least bit sleepy, an itch gnawing at his heart as though something unfinished lingered there.
Frustrated, Song Chengyi sat up, only to hear the steady sound of breathing from the other side. Heartless little thing.
At dawn, accompanied by birdsong outside, Luo Yixia stretched lazily—only to realize she was nestled in a warm embrace. The breath of the person behind her brushed against her ear, and an arm was draped across her waist.
Luo Yixia felt disoriented—had she traveled back to yesterday? This was exactly how the morning had begun before. Why was it the same today?
Sure enough, when she turned her head, she was met with that handsome face, so close.
She stared at the person right before her, gently poked his chest—definitely alive. Then she pinched her own cheek, hard.
With an “Ouch,” Song Chengyi opened his eyes to find the little woman in front of him rubbing her face, her eyes rimmed red.
“What are you doing so early in the morning?” Song Chengyi’s voice was lazy, still hoarse from sleep.
“I…” Luo Yixia continued to rub her cheek—she had pinched too hard; it hurt more than she expected.
So, it wasn’t a dream after all…
Not a dream!
Which meant that, in the middle of the night, some impulse had driven her to climb into Song Chengyi’s bed.
She should admit her mistake immediately.
“Sorry, I must have been really out of it last night. I don’t know how I ended up in your bed—” Before she could finish, she caught sight of the partition behind Song Chengyi.
Wait a minute…
Something was wrong…
This was her own bed!
Luo Yixia’s eyes widened in disbelief. Glancing around, she confirmed it really was her bed.
She blurted out, “Why are you in my bed?”
Her tone immediately turned assertive, losing all its previous timidity.
“Cold,” Song Chengyi replied with a single word, then rolled out of bed and headed into the bathroom.
Luo Yixia was left speechless—she had no way to refute him. After all, the night before last, when she was cold, he had taken her in…
What goes around comes around.
Yet Luo Yixia didn’t feel shortchanged in the slightest; on the contrary, she was a bit smug.
After both had washed up and were preparing to head out for breakfast, Luo Yixia muttered, “He Die and the others are going back home later—we should see them off.”
Sure enough, as soon as they stepped outside, they ran into the pair.
Seeing that they’d already packed their luggage and were about to leave, Luo Yixia was surprised. “You’re leaving so early?”
“We packed first, so we’ll have breakfast and then head straight to the airport,” He Die explained with a smile.
“Perfect, we’ll go together.”
The group had breakfast at a nearby place.
The two girls were clearly reluctant to part, a stark contrast to Su Sheng and Song Chengyi, who were worlds apart—those two had barely exchanged a few words and couldn’t be called friends.
Luo Yixia stood at the crossroads, reluctantly seeing the pair off.
