Chapter Forty-Four: Defending the Support with All One's Might
Song Chengyi certainly wouldn’t turn on the voice chat, and then someone on the other end of the phone spoke up, “Why aren’t you using voice chat? Are you a girl? Shy?”
Song Chengyi’s expression remained unchanged.
Luo Yixia quickly defended him, “What does it matter if it’s a girl or not? Just play, start the game, enough with the nonsense.”
As soon as they entered, Luo Yixia chose the marksman role and called out to Song Chengyi beside her, “Hurry up, pick a support to follow me, I’ll protect you.”
Afraid Song Chengyi might not know what to do, she directly took over and helped him select a sturdy support character.
A friend on the other side of the phone asked, “Your friend is right there with you?”
Luo Yixia mumbled a reply, “Just hurry up and pick your roles. We still need a jungler, a midlaner, and a top laner. Move it.”
Among the other three, there was another girl, and in the end, she reluctantly chose the midlane.
The one who kept talking was Luo Yixia’s high school classmate, lively in the classroom and on good terms with everyone.
But truthfully, none of them were very skilled at playing jungle.
In the end, someone had to fill the role.
Of course, the match was chaotic; the girl on mid was too timid, the jungler clumsy, and though Luo Yixia played marksman well, without the jungler coming to help, she was caught repeatedly by the opposing jungler.
Each time she was ambushed, she yelled, “Support, run, hurry, I’m going to die—!”
And then, she was out.
Song Chengyi’s gaze didn’t change; he cast a glance at the frantic girl beside him.
Actually, every time Song Chengyi took hits for her, Luo Yixia would move in front to shield him.
Even the others joked, “I’m starting to wonder who’s really the support here. Why does it feel like the marksman keeps protecting the support?”
Luo Yixia stayed silent, thinking, of course I have to protect him. As long as Song Chengyi is happy, what does it matter if I lose lives or lose the game? Nothing is more important than Song Chengyi.
The next time the opposing jungler chased her down, Song Chengyi stepped in front of Luo Yixia again.
Luo Yixia hurriedly turned to shield him.
But Song Chengyi spoke up, “I’ll take the hits, you focus on dealing damage.”
His pleasant voice carried from Luo Yixia’s phone to the teammates’ ears.
“Damn, I thought it was a girl. So all this time you were protecting a guy?”
Luo Yixia had no time to respond, because with Song Chengyi soaking up damage, she managed a double kill.
Luo Yixia went wild with joy, “Ahhh, I got a double kill!”
Seeing her smile, Song Chengyi seemed infected by her happiness, his mood lifting as well.
But, alas, the team was a mess, and in the end, they suffered a crushing defeat, staring at the word “defeat” on the screen.
The disappointment lingered.
But soon, the second match began.
This time, the girl who’d played mid in the first round instantly selected support, since she really couldn’t play anything else.
Luo Yixia thought it might be better for Song Chengyi to play marksman, easier for him, so she picked the top lane, which was a lot of pressure.
That left the bottom lane and jungle unclaimed.
The previous jungler sighed, “Guess I’ll play jungle again.”
Before he finished speaking, Song Chengyi had already locked in his choice.
Luo Yixia glanced at the hero she’d played horribly before—this jungle was too difficult.
In the end, that person had to pick support, grumbling, “We’re going to lose again.”
Luo Yixia thought so too.
After all, Song Chengyi wasn’t familiar with the game either…
At the start, Luo Yixia struggled to guard the top lane, Song Chengyi cleared jungle camps, and the support protected the marksman.
