Chapter Thirty-Seven: It's Just Getting the Certificate
“Let’s go to Japan, then. We won’t go for the cherry blossoms,” Luo Yixia said firmly.
As long as it was somewhere Song Chengyi wanted to visit, she wanted to go too.
“Once you’ve decided, I’ll book your tickets and reserve accommodation,” Yu Wenjing said, already pulling out her phone.
“Mom, isn’t that a bit rushed?” Luo Yixia asked.
“Chengyi, you’re not busy these days, are you?” Yu Wenjing didn’t look at Luo Yixia but turned to ask Song Chengyi.
Song Chengyi shook his head with a smile.
Yu Wenjing shot Luo Yixia a glare. “Chengyi says he’s free—so what, you have something on?”
“No, not at all.” Luo Yixia shook her head like a rattle drum.
“So much fuss.” After a brief grumble about her own daughter, Yu Wenjing started browsing flight information.
“How about the day after tomorrow?” Zhou Yun suggested gently.
“That’s fine,” Luo Yixia replied.
“Just enjoy yourselves. We’ll take care of flights and hotels,” Zhou Yun said, patting Luo Yixia’s hand.
“Thank you, Mom,” Luo Yixia replied courteously.
While Yu Wenjing was booking the tickets, she looked up and said with a sigh, “A married daughter really is different. I raised you for twenty-two years and never once heard you say thank you.”
Zhou Yun smiled.
Luo Yixia immediately slid between Zhou Yun and Yu Wenjing. “Mom, Mom, thank you for raising me all these years. Now you’re both my mothers, and I’ll cherish you both the same.”
Now she’d pleased both sides.
“That’s more like it,” Yu Wenjing said, though she was clearly delighted. No matter how much she had scolded her daughter growing up, she was her own flesh and blood—how could she not love her?
Watching Luo Yixia’s playful antics, Song Chengyi couldn’t help but find her utterly charming.
No wonder his own mother was so fond of her.
That night, Zhou Yun and Yu Wenjing insisted that Song Chengyi and Luo Yixia stay over for the holidays, refusing to let them leave.
Dinner was prepared at Yu Wenjing’s house by their housekeeper, since Luo Yixia had praised the cooking earlier.
Both Luo’s father and Song’s father returned home from work.
Seeing Luo Yixia and Song Chengyi at home was a pleasant surprise for them.
The family dinner was full of warmth and laughter.
To Luo Yixia, though, the conversation was somewhat excruciating, as the topics revolved entirely around her and Song Chengyi—even down to speculating whether they’d have a boy or a girl.
She was speechless.
Song Chengyi, however, seemed unfazed, quietly eating without a word.
After dinner, when it was getting late, Luo Yixia got up to leave with her parents.
But as they reached the door, Zhou Yun called out, “Xiaxia, where are you going?”
Yu Wenjing turned and saw Luo Yixia trailing behind, phone in hand.
“I’m going home,” Luo Yixia answered casually.
Zhou Yun and Song’s father both laughed.
Zhou Yun walked over, took Xiaxia’s hand, and led her back. “Silly girl, why go home? Isn’t this your home now?”
Luo Yixia blinked, only then realizing—she still wasn’t quite used to it.
“I was just going home to shower. My clothes and everything are still over there,” she explained timidly.
“Oh, look at me! I’ve been so happy about you two registering your marriage that I completely forgot to buy you clothes. Tomorrow, I’ll take you shopping,” Zhou Yun exclaimed, lightly patting her own head.
“Me too, I’ve been so busy I forgot—now that Xiaxia’s married into our family, we should’ve prepared everything for her,” Song’s father said, sounding regretful.
Luo Yixia really wanted to say, “We only just got our marriage certificate…”
