Although she still liked Song Chengyi—and had only ever liked him—her mind had matured considerably. She understood now what belonged to her and what did not. She could see things clearly. Even though she and Song Chengyi were legally married, in her heart, it was as clear as a polished mirror.

“What are you standing there for?” Seeing Luo Yixia lost in thought for so long, Song Chengyi had to interrupt.

“Oh, just looking around.”

“Didn’t you tell me this morning not to look at your things?” Song Chengyi asked, lounging in the chair.

He really held grudges.

“Well, you looked anyway. Courtesy demands reciprocity, so I’ll look around too.” Luo Yixia smiled.

Song Chengyi said nothing, tacitly agreeing.

With Song Chengyi’s permission, Luo Yixia didn’t hold back and looked around the room.

Song Chengyi was searching for something on the bookshelf, but Luo Yixia didn’t care.

Later, Luo Yixia would realize exactly what this genius was looking for, and just how he planned to torment her. If she’d known, she wouldn’t have followed Song Chengyi here—it would have been better to stay home and listen to her mother’s nagging.

Song Chengyi tossed two books to Luo Yixia.

“These are ones I’ve read before. Take them home and read them over the next month. I’ll check your progress regularly,” Song Chengyi said casually.

Luo Yixia’s lips twitched as she flipped through Medical Chemistry and Medical Physics, feeling a little bewildered.

“No need… haha… I have plenty of books at home I haven’t even started.” She tried to slip the books back when Song Chengyi wasn’t looking.

Unexpectedly, Song Chengyi said, “No problem. Read them all together.”

“Actually, I wanted to say, I read these two books back in my freshman year.” Luo Yixia watched Song Chengyi’s expression, a bit anxious.

“I see.” Song Chengyi held out his hand.

Luo Yixia immediately handed the books over.

It seemed she had succeeded, and just as she began to feel pleased, Song Chengyi flipped open a page.

“What’s the difference between a chemical formula and a molecular formula? What are their similarities and differences?”

“Ah? I… I study medicine, not chemistry. Can’t you ask something more related to chemistry?” Song Chengyi stiffened his neck and forced himself to speak.

“Then tell me about the relationship between chemistry and medicine,” Song Chengyi continued.

Luo Yixia lowered her head, fiddling with her fingers, mumbling, “Still related to chemistry…”

Song Chengyi handed the books back to her. “The relationship between medicine and chemistry is extremely close. Medicine studies the human body, which is made up of various tissues containing tens of thousands of substances composed of dozens of chemical elements. Life processes, including physiological and pathological phenomena, are all reactions of chemical changes within the body. So, if you want to study medicine without learning chemistry, it’s impossible.”

“Oh.” Luo Yixia kept her head down.

Why so serious… Always saying things she couldn’t understand.

Song Chengyi sighed. “I really don’t know what you’re thinking. Read more books now.”

Perhaps it was those words that touched something in her; Luo Yixia’s eyes stung, and she felt deeply aggrieved.

Why did she study medicine… wasn’t it all for him?

Wasn’t it to be closer to him, to have something in common, to understand him better, to look at him a little longer?

“Take a break. I’ll go out now and leave you be,” Luo Yixia said quietly, hugging the books as she walked out, and gently closed the door behind her.
