Chapter Nineteen: The Scheming Big Bad Wolf
Seizing the moment as Song Chengyi turned away, Luo Yixia reached out her mischievous little hand... Ah, those spareribs...
But before she could touch them, Song Chengyi rapped her hand with his chopsticks. “Get a bowl and serve the rice.”
Luo Yixia pouted but, still fuming, went off to fetch a bowl of rice.
Once she placed it on the dining table, Song Chengyi handed her the chopsticks.
Staring at the spareribs that seemed to beckon her with irresistible charm, Luo Yixia couldn’t help but ask, “Can I eat now?”
Song Chengyi nodded.
With permission granted, Luo Yixia impatiently picked up a piece of sweet and sour sparerib.
“Wow, these are actually better than my mom’s,” Luo Yixia exclaimed, never one to hold back praise.
Song Chengyi ate as well, watching Luo Yixia’s cheeks puff out as she chewed—she looked so content, it was clear she found the food delicious. His mood brightened once again.
All his life, Song Chengyi had lived alone. Mealtimes were always solitary, and there was never any noise around him. This led his family and friends to believe he enjoyed the quiet, and so they went out of their way to preserve that silence for him.
But Song Chengyi knew the truth. He never disliked the noisy Luo Yixia. On the contrary, he’d found her adorable even as a child. But with his proud and reserved nature, how could he ever say such things aloud?
These past couple of days together had made him realize just how much he… enjoyed it.
Gnawing on the spareribs, Luo Yixia didn’t forget to praise her own cooking as well.
“I never thought my first time cooking rice would turn out so well.”
“Oh,” Song Chengyi retorted with his usual sharp tongue, “then eat more of your rice and leave the dishes alone.”
Luo Yixia gave an awkward laugh. “Of course not, your dishes are the best.”
“Eat more vegetables,” Song Chengyi admonished, glancing at her bowl piled high with spareribs.
Though reluctant, Luo Yixia, feeling the pressure from Song Chengyi, dutifully ate a few bites of cucumber and broccoli.
They tasted quite good, but she was a carnivore at heart.
After the meal, Luo Yixia quickly volunteered to clear the table and even offered to do the dishes.
When Song Chengyi emerged from his room, he found that Luo Yixia had just finished washing up.
As she turned around, she was startled to see Song Chengyi standing right behind her. “What is it?”
She watched as Song Chengyi took a step closer, and then another.
Luo Yixia, not knowing what to expect, gazed at him, wide-eyed.
Now standing just before her, Song Chengyi raised his hand toward her.
Luo Yixia’s heart pounded wildly. Was he… was he going to touch her face? What should she do… This was so exciting…
But then, Song Chengyi simply wiped her left cheek, and she saw there was soap foam on his hand.
“Eh…” Luo Yixia instinctively reached up and wiped at her own face. She must have gotten it there while washing the dishes.
She was about to thank him.
But in the next instant, Song Chengyi smeared the soap foam from his hand onto her face again.
Muttering, “Filthy,” he then, dissatisfied that there was still foam left on his hand, wiped it twice more on Luo Yixia’s clothes before finally turning and walking away.
Luo Yixia watched Song Chengyi finish his “crime” and stroll off, completely unbothered.
She nearly choked on her own breath—so he’d come over just to point out she was dirty?
Was she blind before? How could she have thought Song Chengyi was gentle?
This was the real Song Chengyi—the sly wolf in sheep’s clothing!
