Watching Song Chengyi walk away, Luo Yixia followed closely behind. Song Chengyi carried an armful of shopping bags, and Luo Yixia felt a surge of happiness. She had fantasized countless times about strolling through a mall with a man willing to carry her things, never expecting that dream to come true so soon—and that the man would be Song Chengyi.

Walking beside him, Luo Yixia couldn’t help the smile tugging at her lips.

“What did you have for lunch?” Song Chengyi turned his head to glance at her, clearly noticing her cheerful mood.

“Just… had some food,” Luo Yixia replied, her confidence faltering as she shrank her neck a little.

“Oh?” Song Chengyi responded, his tone meaningful, though he had already caught her guilty little gesture.

“Heh… The restaurant outside your neighborhood is actually pretty good… The food was delicious,” Luo Yixia said, trying to sound casual but only making it more obvious.

Song Chengyi laughed inwardly. That guilty look—she was confessing without saying a word.

“So you came to bring me money—are you heading back to class later?” Luo Yixia asked, still worried she might be inconveniencing him.

“No more classes. I was just about to come home,” he replied.

They hadn’t walked far before flagging down a ride to return to the apartment.

In the car, the driver glanced at them in the rearview mirror and grinned, “Not many boyfriends go shopping with their girlfriends anymore. You’re a good man, young man.”

Song Chengyi, unaccustomed to such remarks, felt a little embarrassed, but Luo Yixia only kept laughing, making his discomfort even more obvious.

When they got out of the car, the two of them brought their bags back into the neighborhood. The property manager eyed them carefully, then looked at Song Chengyi in disbelief. “Mr. Song, are you bringing your girlfriend home? I’ve been here for two years and never once seen you bring a young lady back.”

He even winked at Luo Yixia, signaling his approval.

“She’s my wife,” Song Chengyi answered calmly and steadily, then pulled Luo Yixia away.

Not only the property manager, but even Luo Yixia stared at Song Chengyi in disbelief.

Had he just admitted she was his wife? Did he mean what she thought he meant?

Luo Yixia pressed a hand against her chest, feeling her heart leaping so wildly it seemed ready to burst out.

Once inside, Song Chengyi deliberately avoided looking at her beaming face, barely able to contain her joy. He cleared his throat awkwardly. “Where should I put these?”

That pulled Luo Yixia out of her reverie. She hurried over to take her things. “Just leave them in the living room—I’ll sort them,” she said, compromising, and pattered across the floor to kneel beside the coffee table.

Song Chengyi frowned almost imperceptibly at the sight.

Luo Yixia opened the bags and began placing her purchases neatly on the table and sofa.

Seeing her so busy and content, Song Chengyi returned to the bedroom with his copy of Human Anatomy. Next spring, he would start his hospital internship. Though medical studies weren’t particularly difficult for him, he knew he would soon be facing real patients and couldn’t afford to be careless. Since he had chosen this profession, he owed it his full commitment.

Luo Yixia looked at all the odds and ends she’d bought, sorting each item into its place. Toiletries went into the bathroom, arranged side by side with Song Chengyi’s things.

She glanced at the pair of matching toothbrush cups she’d purchased, each adorned with cute little cartoon figures. Staring at them, she broke into a silly, unguarded smile once again.
