Chapter 137: What Are We Waiting For?
Page (1/3)
Luo Yixia gritted her teeth. Was this truly a dead end? Was this year destined to be the one where her arms and legs would betray her, forcing her to run away from home?
How many times had this leg been injured this year?
At this moment, her classmates who had been seated in the stands or standing nearby all rushed over, anxiously asking about her condition.
“Xia Xia, don’t give up, you’re going to be fine,” Gan Yanyan said, full of concern.
“I’m fine. There’s still one more lap,” Luo Yixia shook her head.
“Xia Xia, everyone else is finished. Let’s go to the infirmary,” Lin Ya also urged gently.
From afar, Song Chengyi watched Luo Yixia struggling to walk, feeling a pang in his heart, painful and constricting.
He had held back several times but finally stopped himself from rushing over and instead quietly walked to the finish line.
He had promised her he would wait for her there.
Although the race was over, everyone was waiting for Luo Yixia to reach the finish.
In truth, quitting now wouldn’t be a big deal—there was no hope left anyway.
Luo Yixia didn’t know if it was the pain or the frustration that reddened her eyes. She had promised Song Chengyi she would reach the finish line. Even if it meant walking, she would make it there.
Though she had lost her ranking, she believed the race truly ended only when she crossed the finish line. Even if she were last, she would complete the course.
Raising her head, she gazed at the finish line in the distance, at the figure waiting there. He was also watching her.
The world suddenly fell silent.
Only she and Song Chengyi remained.
Step by step, she moved toward him. Just a little more perseverance, a little more grit, and it would be over.
She arrived...
Luo Yixia’s eyes were red as she took the final step.
She saw him close by.
She couldn’t help but reach out her hand.
Fortunately, Song Chengyi smiled, stepped forward, and took her hand.
Luo Yixia collapsed into his embrace.
“Well done,” Song Chengyi whispered in her ear.
At that moment, Luo Yixia wanted to think of nothing else, care for nothing else. She just wanted to hold him.
Song Chengyi lifted her up and carried her to the infirmary.
He no longer wanted to indulge Luo Yixia’s stubbornness. From the start, he hadn’t cared about others’ opinions. When she fell, he had wanted to rush to her side but restrained himself—until now, when he could no longer hold back.
Gan Yanyan and Lin Ya, standing nearby, followed closely. Luo Yixia nuzzled her face into his chest.
As he hurried along, Song Chengyi kept a close eye on her. “Hold on, we’re almost there.”
Luo Yixia shook her head. “I’m fine.”
At the infirmary, the doctor was quite surprised. After all, Song Chengyi often helped out here, but no one expected to see him carrying a girl in his arms.
The doctor’s name was Tang Heng. He had graduated from this school and was now an intern at the infirmary.
Song Chengyi always respectfully called him senior.
“She fell. Please check her,” Song Chengyi said as he knelt to lift her pants.
Her right knee was scraped badly, occasionally bleeding. The two girls nearby were tearing up, full of sympathy.
Her left leg was better, only lightly bruised.
Song Chengyi stood by her side. Luo Yixia clung to his arm like a child, playfully entangling herself with him.
Tang Heng glanced calmly.
“Not serious. Let’s clean it first.” He then took out alcohol, gauze, and other supplies.
He was about to treat her himself but watching the girl’s wide eyes staring at the tweezers and alcohol, he almost couldn’t bear it.

“You handle it. This is a minor injury; you can take care of it,” Tang Heng said mischievously.
Song Chengyi didn’t refuse and took the supplies.
When he was about to touch the wound, Luo Yixia pressed his hand down. “Be gentle, it hurts.”
Her nasal voice carried a tremor that struck a chord deep within Song Chengyi’s heart.
“Okay,” he squatted carefully and meticulously tended to her wound.
Though she didn’t cry out, the cleaning process nearly brought tears to her eyes.
“Well, we should get going. You take care of Xia Xia,” Gan Yanyan and Lin Ya felt useless lingering here and even a bit like a hindrance.
“Go on then. Good luck!” Luo Yixia encouraged them.
“Yeah, yeah, your Highness. Stop worrying about others and take care of yourself,” Lin Ya teased as they left.
Song Chengyi applied the medicine and finished dressing the wound, rolled down her pant leg, and asked, “Any other injuries?”
Luo Yixia glanced at Tang Heng, who was leaning against the table watching the scene like a spectator, then shook her head. “No, just the leg.”
“That’s good,” Song Chengyi breathed a sigh of relief.
“Geez, I can’t stand watching you two lovebirds,” Tang Heng joked.
Luo Yixia suddenly remembered that Song Chengyi had carried her in his arms. Wouldn’t that stir up a commotion outside?
Was there still a chance to salvage things?
“Do you need anything else?” Song Chengyi glanced coldly at Tang Heng.
Tang Heng shrugged, “Nope.”
“Then you can leave.”
“Huh? Throw me away after using me?” Tang Heng laughed.
“I haven’t used you. You didn’t even treat the wound,” Song Chengyi retorted, unusually interested in bantering.
“Heartless,” Tang Heng sighed and teased as he left, “Your little girlfriend’s pretty cute.”
He left before Luo Yixia could react.
Song Chengyi sat beside her. “Why so careless?”
Seeing no one else around, Luo Yixia seized the chance to act pitiful.
“I don’t know. I just tripped when I ran. I’m already so miserable, and you’re scolding me?” She feigned tears.
Song Chengyi’s heart ached. “I’m not scolding you.”
“You are! Wahhh,” she pounced into his arms to take advantage.
Over his shirt, feeling his muscles was pure bliss.
“Ahem,” Song Chengyi cleared his throat, sensing her playful scheming.
“Hehe,” Luo Yixia laughed awkwardly and sat upright.
“I’ll take you back to the dorm. I have the high jump later,” Song Chengyi said, seeing she was mostly okay.
“You still have a competition? I want to watch,” Luo Yixia perked up.
“You’re injured,” Song Chengyi was at a loss for how to persuade her.
“It’s okay. No one’s in the dorm. I’ll just sit outside and watch from afar.”
In the end, Song Chengyi couldn’t convince her and helped her out.
Luo Yixia hobbled along, calling several friends from Song Chengyi’s phone, asking them to come pick her up.
Seeing all her calls unanswered, she began to suspect a conspiracy.
“I’ll take you,” Song Chengyi offered.
Under the watchful eyes of the whole school, Luo Yixia was limping but supported by Song Chengyi as they reached her classroom.
Her classmates saw her and hurried over to help.

Luo Yixia gently pulled away from him.
“You should go to your race.”
“Okay.” Song Chengyi nodded and left.
Supported by the remaining classmates who weren’t competing, Luo Yixia returned to her seat.
“Luo Yixia, you and Senior Song seem really close,” a girl nearby asked.
“We know each other. It’s okay,” Luo Yixia replied with an awkward smile, somewhat evasive.
“We never got the chance to ask—have you known him since childhood?”
“No, we met after I moved when I was little,” Luo Yixia didn’t lie about this.
“I envy you. Having two handsome guys as neighbors…”
A group of girls swooned, and Luo Yixia thought it best to remain silent.
She had planned to watch Song Chengyi’s high jump, but the crowd was too thick. Looking at her leg, she sighed and gave up.
Fortunately, in this era of abundant videos, someone had shared his jump on social media. Luo Yixia watched Song Chengyi’s flawless high jump from every angle.
He was incredibly handsome, soaring over the bar with perfect grace, no strain at all.
Some people were simply born outstanding—good at academics and sports.
Luo Yixia sighed. She was just simple-minded and strong-limbed, and couldn’t even run well.
As she scrolled, she stumbled upon her own embarrassing fall video...
It was unbearable to watch.
She quickly swiped past and found the next video: Song Chengyi carrying her to the infirmary.
Oh my...
Luo Yixia felt nervous and opened the comments, but quickly realized it was better not to read them.
Some claimed she was dating Song Chengyi; others explained they were neighbors, like siblings, and it was natural for him to care for her.
Luo Yixia felt a little guilty toward them.
Eventually, she couldn’t help but reply to the rude comments.
In real life, she was too lazy to retort, but online, she wouldn’t allow them to have the upper hand.
She typed sharply, “Fox or seductress, I don’t know. But I do know your mouth stinks and you deserve a slap.”
After a few replies, many comments expressed envy that she got to be carried like a princess by Song Chengyi.
Seeing this, Luo Yixia couldn’t help but smile, dispelling her earlier gloom.
Actually, this wasn’t so bad...
She received a message from Song Chengyi saying he’d pick her up in the evening and that she should take a day off tomorrow to rest at home.
Tomorrow was the last day of the sports meet, and she had nothing left to do, so going home was reasonable.
After replying with a “Okay,” she immediately messaged Lao Sheng, sending a photo of her knee. Lao Sheng promptly approved her leave and advised her to rest well and not loiter at school.
Putting away her phone, Luo Yixia watched the ongoing competitions before her and thought: If she and Song Chengyi gradually let go, there might be more criticism, but it wouldn’t affect him.
So maybe they could just be open about it...
Speak when they wanted, hold hands when they wanted, even hug, kiss, and lift each other high...
Just the thought filled her heart with little bursts of joy.
