Chapter 122: Encounter with a Molester
Lo Yixia was indeed quite annoyed. She had initially chosen to study medicine along with Song Chengyi but gradually realized it wasn’t really suited for her.
At noon, after barely taking a few bites of her meal, Lo Yixia returned to the dormitory to prepare for her studies.
Staring at the chaotic jumble of technical terms and academic reports before her, she felt utterly overwhelmed.
Her phone buzzed once from the side.
Lo Yixia opened it to see a message from Song Chengyi.
“Brother said he’s coming tonight to treat us to dinner. Are you free?”
Lo Yixia pondered for a moment. Going out meant she’d need to ask the dorm supervisor for leave. Since it was only the second day of formal classes, the rules weren’t too strict yet. If she went out now, she’d likely have to return by evening.
[Okay, I’ll go out tonight.]
She typed back.
[Are you in the dorm now?]
Unexpectedly, Song Chengyi messaged again.
[Yeah, I’m working on my report.]
[If you don’t understand, just ask me.]
[Got it.]
Lo Yixia sent a few laughing emojis afterwards.
She closed her phone and returned to the pile of papers, sighing as she faced the blank spaces on the page. Time to get back to reality and keep writing this report.
By the time she finished, it was almost two in the afternoon.
Everyone else was starting to get up, freshen up, and head to class.
During lunch, the roommates were all focused on their reports, no one napped since they had already slept during the earlier hours. Now, there was simply no time left.
Lo Yixia stretched lazily.
“Have you finished?”
“We don’t mean to discourage you, but we finished an hour ago,” Lin Ya said, cracking her neck while scrolling on her phone, complaining about neck stiffness.
Lo Yixia glanced at the other two, who were either wearing headphones watching TV or playing on their phones.
Frustrated, she packed up her things and went to the bathroom to wash her face.
Afterward, she paced around to get her legs moving—they had gone numb from sitting too long.
Classes were incredibly dull, especially Advanced Mathematics.
Looking at the dense numbers on the blackboard, Lo Yixia felt like she was developing a fear of crowded patterns.
If you don’t work hard when young, you’ll only regret it when you’re old.
Sure enough, math class was the perfect lullaby.
Lo Yixia couldn’t help but yawn.
She saw the math teacher’s image multiply into three… her head was spinning.
“Now, I’ll randomly select a student to answer this problem,” the math teacher said, pushing up his glasses. Names began flashing across the screen. Everyone held their breath, hoping not to be called.
Finally, it stopped slowly on “Lo Yixia.”
The class erupted in applause, all of them reveling in her misfortune.
Gan Yanyan had one hand on her forehead and the other pushing someone next to her who looked ready to faint.
Lo Yixia nearly got pushed over by her.
Suddenly wide awake, she stared at Gan Yanyan, eyes wide open.
“What’s up?”
Lowering her voice, Gan Yanyan whispered, “Hey, it’s you. Answer the question.”
Lo Yixia stood up awkwardly, glanced at the blackboard, then at her textbook—where had they gotten to?
“This student, look at the blackboard. Which answer should we choose for this problem? And you have to explain why.”
Lo Yixia read through the problem once, but her mind stalled as if frozen; she couldn’t grasp the meaning.
“A,” Gan Yanyan whispered as a hint.
Although Lo Yixia’s mind was muddled, at least her ears were still sharp.
“Choose A?” she asked hesitantly.
“Why choose A then?” the teacher pressed on.
Lo Yixia looked down. “Why, uh…” She nudged Gan Yanyan with her foot.
“I don’t know either,” Gan Yanyan said anxiously, glancing at Xu Jiayu.
Xu Jia was bent over her paper, pen moving through the solution steps.
Lo Yixia quickly grabbed her own pen and began calculating on paper.
Though math wasn’t her strength, she had at least passed the entrance exam for A University, so she wasn’t completely clueless.
Besides, this question only touched on some university-level concepts; most of it was from high school.
Lo Yixia already knew the answer was A: when t equals 2, the tangent line equation is 3x - y - 7 = 0, so the slope k at t=2 is (3/2) * t = 3, and the tangent point is (5, 8).
Xu Jiayu had worked it out too and passed it to Gan Yanyan, who then handed it to Lo Yixia.
But Lo Yixia had already done the calculation herself and read her answer aloud.
“Very good, that’s the correct answer. You may sit down,” the math teacher finally smiled with relief.
Lo Yixia exhaled and sat back down.
Gan Yanyan nudged her elbow. “Not bad—you can even answer questions in your sleep.”
Lo Yixia blinked and smiled proudly. “Still got the old skills.”
After that little episode, Lo Yixia felt less sleepy and focused on the lesson, even if she was still confused.
After class, Lo Yixia and Gan Yanyan linked arms and headed to the supermarket to buy snacks and drinks.
The last class in the afternoon was an elective, and naturally, the two lazy ones had chosen to watch movies.
The other two had club activities.
Lo Yixia had joined the dance club but hadn’t checked in for a while—she had almost forgotten she was even a member.
They entered the lecture hall and took seats at the back. Curtains were drawn, doors closed, lights off. The atmosphere was pitch black, just like a movie theater.
Quite a few people had shown up today for the film class.
Lo Yixia wondered why everyone was so excited about old movies.
More and more people kept streaming into the classroom, looking around curiously.
Lo Yixia frowned. What were they doing, coming and going like that? How were people supposed to watch the movie?
“Xia Xia, look at this,” Gan Yanyan handed her phone.
Lo Yixia saw a side-profile photo of Song Chengyi.
“When did you secretly take this?” she asked.
“Don’t accuse me! I’m not coveting your man,” Gan Yanyan replied quickly.
“Then where did you get it from?” Lo Yixia examined the photo more closely.
“How can you be so silly? Look at the caption above the post—look at the title,” Gan Yanyan almost wanted to slap her.
Lo Yixia took another look.
“Medical school heartthrob of A University, everyone come see him! In the lecture hall where they’re showing old movies.”
There were already hundreds of comments and tens of thousands of views.
Most were debating whether this was truly the old movie classroom since no one had spotted anyone inside.
“So, Song Chengyi is here too,” Lo Yixia whispered to Gan Yanyan.
“Yeah, check it out! Where’s your man?” Gan Yanyan looked around.
The room was growing darker.
Lo Yixia didn’t even know who was sitting near her.
Gan Yanyan kept scrolling through the post.
“Xia Xia, the original poster can’t find Song Chengyi anymore either. The first photo only caught him entering here, but no one’s sure exactly where he is.”
Lo Yixia finally breathed a sigh of relief. As long as no one else spotted him, it was fine.
Song Chengyi’s influence was indeed immense.
Usually, only a few people trickled into film class, but today, it was almost full.
“Do you want to ask where your man is now?” Gan Yanyan asked.
Lo Yixia thought about it but decided against it.
“No, I won’t ask. He finally has a class; I won’t disturb him. If someone catches him looking at his phone, he might not even get to attend.”
Gan Yanyan sighed. “Yeah, celebrities are just different.”
Lo Yixia felt a bit down. She had only caught a glimpse of Wen Li this morning and still missed him terribly, longing to see him again.
Suddenly, a warm hand covered Lo Yixia’s own.
Her whole body stiffened.
Had she just been groped in the dark?
In this pitch-black room…
Lo Yixia didn’t dare move and was about to shout.
Unexpectedly, the person beside her leaned in closer.
Lo Yixia was so startled she forgot to scream.
“Don’t shout, it’s me,” Song Chengyi whispered softly in her ear.
She caught the familiar scent, voice, and touch.
Lo Yixia finally relaxed.
She had scared herself for nothing.
Song Chengyi reached out and tightly held her small hand.
Lo Yixia clasped back.
But how had he ended up sitting beside her without her noticing? Was she really that clueless? Many eyes were watching Song Chengyi intently—when had he arrived?
Lo Yixia dared not ask, fearing that speaking might alarm those around them and get him discovered.
“Xia Xia, want some chips?” Gan Yanyan offered a bag.
“No, thanks,” Lo Yixia whispered.
Gan Yanyan looked at her suspiciously. Lo Yixia sat so upright now, more attentive than she ever was in class.
The flickering light from the movie allowed Gan Yanyan to glimpse her clearly.
Probably, the chips just didn’t taste good. Soon, Gan Yanyan switched to feeding her popcorn, then various candies, and even some crispy noodles.
Lo Yixia was quite annoyed and wondered how she had let herself get talked into buying all these snacks.
She kept rejecting them all: “No thanks.”
“Xia Xia, you’re not feeling unwell, right? Even if you can’t see your man, don’t starve yourself,” Gan Yanyan whispered.
Lo Yixia wanted to cover her mouth, wishing for some silence.
Before she could react, Song Chengyi chuckled softly.
Gan Yanyan, engrossed in talking to Lo Yixia, heard it clearly.
She turned on her phone screen to shine some light on Lo Yixia’s side.
Without the light, she hadn’t noticed before—now she was startled.
Lo Yixia snatched the phone away after just a glance.
But Gan Yanyan had seen enough to exclaim, “Xia Xia, he… he…”
Lo Yixia immediately covered her mouth to warn her, “Keep it down.”
Seeing her nod, Lo Yixia relaxed her grip.
“Wow, he’s been right beside you the whole time? No wonder,” Gan Yanyan said incredulously.
“Quiet,” Lo Yixia gestured, and the movie played on.
