Chapter 116: What to Do When Your Best Friend Has Eyes on Your Husband
“Then, is Song Chengyi treating you well now?” Xu Youqi suddenly asked.
Only then did everyone realize that this wasn’t the time for complaints or jealousy. The real question was whether Xiaxia was truly happy.
“I think I have a lot to say about this,” Gan Yanyan raised her hand.
“Go ahead.”
“I was in the same group with the two of them. Oh my, Song Chengyi is such a wife’s man! He stayed up with Xiaxia at night, and when Xiaxia got lost, his first reaction was to look for her. And when Xiaxia went to the hospital, he went to stay with her. There are so many things like that—I’m jealous just talking about it,” Gan Yanyan said, feigning pity.
“Xiaxia, I’m really envious of you. I want a boyfriend as handsome as him,” Xu Youqi chimed in.
“Actually, he is very good to me, but it still doesn’t feel quite real. I always feel… like he’s just being responsible for me,” Luo Yixia poked at her little hand, uncertain.
“This isn’t the time to talk about that. I have something very important to say,” Lin Ya said, her expression serious as everyone looked at her.
“Are we going to make Xiaxia get Song Chengyi to treat us to a meal?” Lin Ya asked with a teasing smile.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, thinking, “Oh, so that’s what the important matter is.”
“At a time like this, you’re still thinking about food? You glutton,” Luo Yixia tried to hit her.
“I think eating is the most important thing in life, right, Yanyan? Jiayu?” Lin Ya asked.
Gan Yanyan silently walked over to Lin Ya's side. “I agree.”
Then everyone looked toward Xu Jiayu.
“Actually, I think we should talk about Xiaxia first…” Xu Jiayu deliberately coughed.
“Jiayu, I knew it. You’re always the best to me,” Luo Yixia was touched and reached to hug her.
But Xu Jiayu slipped away and went to Lin Ya’s side.
“I still think eating is most important.”
“You bunch of beasts,” Luo Yixia said, exasperated.
In the end, Luo Yixia was so overwhelmed by their pestering that she reluctantly called Song Chengyi.
As the dial tone echoed, Luo Yixia’s heart was squeezed tightly.
After a moment, the call was answered.
“Hello?” Song Chengyi’s pleasant voice came through.
Luo Yixia pushed away the three girls clinging to her and moved aside.
Faint noise could be heard from the background on the other end.
“You didn’t return to the dorm?” Luo Yixia asked softly.
“School’s been a bit busy, so I didn’t go back.”
“Oh, um, did I trouble you again tonight?” Luo Yixia fiddled with the wall nervously.
“Get to the point,” Gan Yanyan mouthed silently.
Luo Yixia turned away, ignoring her.
“Next time, don’t let anyone bully you, alright? I spoke up tonight, but there might be others trying to bother you in the future. Don’t pay them any mind,” Song Chengyi said, deeply concerned for Luo Yixia.
Seeing her standing quietly among the crowd, head lowered and looking so wronged, he couldn’t help himself. He didn’t want her to suffer any bullying, so he acted without thinking.
Though in the end, he regained reason and said he saw her as a little sister, but did she want that? Brother and sister—was that what she desired?
“I understand. I won’t let anyone bully me anymore,” Luo Yixia replied.
“Good. Anything else?” Song Chengyi asked again, sensitive to the hushed voices near her.
“No… nothing…” Luo Yixia was too embarrassed to say more.
How could she tell Song Chengyi that her roommates wanted him to treat them to a meal? He clearly disliked eating out with strangers and hated noisy places. Putting them all together would surely tire him, and she couldn’t bear that. Most importantly, if he refused, how embarrassing would that be for her?
“Really nothing?” Song Chengyi confirmed once more.
“No—” Luo Yixia had just started when her phone was snatched away.
She heard movement on the other end and her voice calling, “Give me back my phone!”
Then other voices came through.
Lin Ya, unable to stand Luo Yixia’s dithering, grabbed the phone and put it on speaker.
“Hello, Senior Song, I’m Xiaxia’s roommate.”
Song Chengyi didn’t sound surprised and politely replied, “Hello.”
“Song Chengyi, don’t worry, you can hang up now,” Luo Yixia shouted, trying to grab the phone back.
But Song Chengyi didn’t hang up, and after a moment, Luo Yixia was pulled away by Gan Yanyan and Xu Jiayu, looking tearful as Lin Ya held the phone.
“Senior Song, we just heard about your relationship with Xiaxia. Our dorm has a rule: whoever gets a boyfriend must treat all their sisters in the dorm to a meal,” Lin Ya said with a straight face.
“When did you set this rule? Why didn’t I know?” Luo Yixia, though tied up by two, still managed to speak.
Lin Ya shot her a glare and gestured for her friends to cover Luo Yixia’s mouth.
Immediately, Luo Yixia fell silent.
“Well, I’m not her boyfriend; we’re married,” Song Chengyi said lightly.
Luo Yixia couldn’t believe her ears—was he admitting it?
The others felt heartbroken—were they just eating dog food?
“Of course not. If he’s the husband, he definitely has to treat us more often,” Lin Ya quickly responded.
“Okay.” The reply came swiftly, casual and even… cheerful?
“Choose the time and place, then have Xiaxia send me the details. My classes aren’t too tight lately,” Song Chengyi added.
“Sure, sure,” Lin Ya nodded enthusiastically.
“Alright, have Xiaxia get some rest early tonight. I’ll hang up now,” Song Chengyi reminded them.
“Goodbye, Senior,” Lin Ya said, then ended the call.
Luo Yixia picked up the phone that had been heartlessly abandoned.
She looked at the three lovestruck girls huddled together.
“What do we do? I think I like Song Chengyi even more now,” Lin Ya murmured.
“I want a husband like that too,” another sighed.
Luo Yixia stood expressionless on the side.
What am I supposed to do with my best friends eyeing my husband like this? Waiting online for advice…
“So, where are we going to eat?”
“The most expensive place, the most expensive!”
And so, right in front of Luo Yixia, they pulled out the phone and started searching for the nearest restaurants.
“Aren’t you going too far?” Luo Yixia spoke up.
But no one paid her any mind.
That night, Luo Yixia was completely isolated while the others gossiped about Song Chengyi. Meanwhile, she hugged her pillow quietly, her feelings indescribable.
At nine o’clock, after showering, Luo Yixia was ready to scroll through videos on her phone.
But the phone was snatched away again.
“What are you doing?” She tried to grab it back.
“Senior Song asked us to make sure you get some rest,” Lin Ya fluttered her eyes, smiling brightly.
It gave Luo Yixia an inexplicable chill.
“Song Chengyi was just joking, right? It’s only nine o’clock, seriously?” Luo Yixia laughed bitterly.
“No, I want to listen to the male god,” Lin Ya said shyly.
“Oh my God, stop laughing, I’m going to puke,” Luo Yixia screamed.
“Get lost,” Lin Ya snapped fiercely, pushing her down and pulling the blanket over herself.
“Phones confiscated. Time to sleep.”
Luo Yixia felt like she was on the verge of collapse…
So, with just one call, Song Chengyi effortlessly gained three loyal fans?
The worst part was, not only did they confiscate her phone and tell her to sleep, but the three of them sat together giggling and snacking, making it impossible for her to rest.
Luo Yixia buried her face in the pillow in despair.
The next morning, Luo Yixia was the first to wake.
The first thing she did was turn on the small dorm speaker, humming as she brushed her teeth and washed up.
“Luo Yixia, do you want a beating?” Lin Ya, hair disheveled, pulled back the curtain.
“Early to bed and early to rise is good for your health…” Luo Yixia hopped cheerfully.
After being bullied last night, ha, now it was their turn.
One by one, she roused her roommates awake.
Of course, Luo Yixia couldn’t escape a little “beating” herself.
Since it was the first day of official classes, there was an early morning lesson.
One by one, they went to the cafeteria, each biting into a steamed bun, grabbing a cup of soy milk, and rushing to class.
As usual, they sat at the back to joke and chat.
Sure enough, once class started, Luo Yixia, Lin Ya, and Gan Yanyan all rested their heads on the desk, catching some sleep.
Luo Yixia truly was poor at studying and genuinely asleep.
But the three around her seemed different.
Xu Jiayu was class monitor and top student.
Lin Ya was just average.
Gan Yanyan appeared indifferent but always scored in the top ten despite copying homework.
Luo Yixia deeply suspected they might have secret tutoring, but she didn’t.
So, she was still the worst—she had simply given up.
Not long after, Old Sheng entered.
First came the usual opening remarks… a messy speech overall.
“This semester, we have a transfer student joining us. Come in,” Old Sheng said, looking toward the door.
Most people curiously turned toward the entrance.
Then they saw a boy with a backpack slung over one shoulder, wearing ripped jeans and a black T-shirt.
A black baseball cap was pulled low over his head.
A girl whispered nearby, “Such a great figure, right? But the cap’s so low you can’t see his face.”
The boy slowly stood at the podium.
He lifted his sharply chiseled face, a roguish smile playing at his lips. “Hello everyone, my name is He Zhen.”
“Wow…” screams of excitement erupted from the crowd.
“Damn, so cool and rebellious… totally my type…”
“Alright, alright, girls, don’t lose control. Does Song Chengyi know you’re already climbing the walls?” Old Sheng looked at the group of fangirls.
“Song Chengyi? Who said Song Chengyi was coming?” Luo Yixia, half-awake, was startled by the noise but no one noticed her.
She glanced around, wondering if she’d heard wrong, then cast a faint glance at the boy standing at the front…
