Chapter Eleven: The Merger of the Old and New Campuses
After finishing her takeout, Luo Yixia rubbed her full stomach, leaned back on the sofa, and looked at her phone. She chatted with Yanyan for a bit.
“It seems we’re going to have retraining when the semester starts,” Gan Yanyan said on the other end of the call.
Luo Yixia, holding the remote, was lazily flipping through the channels. Lately, TV quality had really gone downhill—what on earth were they even airing?
She still managed to reply to Yanyan, “Retraining? What kind of retraining?”
“See, I knew you didn’t know.” Gan Yanyan sounded dejected over the phone.
“Know what?” Luo Yixia stuffed a potato chip into her mouth.
“Military training! We’re going to have military training when we go back!” Gan Yanyan was quite worked up—how could this girl not care about anything?
“What?” Luo Yixia jumped straight up from the sofa.
“Yeah, since the old and new campuses are merging, this year everyone has to participate in military training. Whether you’re a freshman or a senior, you have to do it.”
“Wait... what did you say? The old and new campuses are merging?” Clearly, Luo Yixia’s focus wasn’t on the military training at all.
“Miss Luo, where exactly is your focus?” Gan Yanyan rolled her eyes on the other end of the line.
“Weren’t the old and new campuses always supposed to stay separate? How did they suddenly decide to merge them?”
“See, you stay cooped up at home all day and know nothing.” Gan Yanyan sighed but didn’t forget to explain. “The new campus has been under renovation for ages, and there were always rumors about a merger. Now, after this summer break, the upperclassmen—those in third, fourth, even fifth year—are all coming over.”
“Really?” Luo Yixia was thrilled.
“Of course it’s true. Didn’t I tell you I know a third-year senior? She told me they’ve been moving their dorms lately, and they start the semester earlier than we do.”
“Ahhh… this is amazing!” Luo Yixia screamed with excitement.
Gan Yanyan had to hold her phone far from her ear; it was starting to hurt.
Luo Yixia bounced on the sofa, overjoyed.
She’d worked so hard to get into A University just so she could be with Song Chengyi, but fate had other plans. As soon as school started, the university split into old and new campuses, and she ended up far, far away from him. She spent a whole year at the new campus and didn’t catch even a glimpse of Song Chengyi.
It had been a source of endless frustration. She’d never expected the campuses to merge again so soon.
Ha! This was wonderful.
“Hey? Xiaxia, are you listening?” Gan Yanyan’s voice came from the phone, which had been tossed on the sofa.
Luo Yixia hurried to pick it up.
“I’m here, I’m here.”
“So… we’re in for another round of suffering…” came a long sigh from the phone.
“Hm? What?” Luo Yixia’s mind was entirely on the campus merger, on the fact that she could be at the same school as Song Chengyi again.
“Xiaxia, I’m talking about military training! We’re about to go through another month of grueling, exhausting military training!”
“So be it,” Luo Yixia replied nonchalantly. As long as she could be with Song Chengyi, what was military training to her?
Gan Yanyan curled her lip. “Is this really you? I can’t believe you just said that.”
“Military training is great, it brings classmates together…” Luo Yixia chuckled.
“This girl… must have lost her mind…” Gan Yanyan shook her head. “But this time, I heard the training is going to be a full-fledged battlefield simulation. We’ll be out in the wild, living in tents for a whole month. I think it’ll be pretty exciting.” Gan Yanyan laughed mischievously.
