“Excellent.” Fang Can looked at the entire bag of arsenic in his hand and nodded in satisfaction.

What he had now would be enough to use until his body became completely immune.

And the poisons in the suitcase were not limited to arsenic. There was also ricin, a deadly toxin of which a mere 0.007 grams could kill. Smoking that stuff was far more stimulating than arsenic.

Once his body developed immunity to arsenic, he could switch to ricin to continue improving.

Jiang Ning’an came down the stairs. Since there were no women’s clothes in the house, she had no choice but to wear Fang Can’s clothes.

Seeing the bag of pills in Fang Can’s hand, she could not help asking curiously, “What exactly are those? I see you eating them every day, yet you don’t look ill.”

“It’s precisely because my body is too strong that I have to take them.” Fang Can smiled as he explained, “They’re all deadly poisons.”

“If you don’t want to say, then forget it.” Jiang Ning’an crossed her arms, clearly unconvinced by his perfunctory answer.

She guessed they were something like sugar pills. Even so, eating more than a dozen of them a day suggested an addiction far too severe.

“If Senior doesn’t believe me, then so be it.” Fang Can spread his hands indifferently and closed the suitcase again.

“Though these things probably won’t affect you, Senior, it would still be best not to eat them.”

“Who would want to eat your sugar pills?” Jiang Ning’an retorted, then asked, “You said earlier that we might be able to return. Three days have already passed, yet there still isn’t the slightest sign.”

“Senior, don’t be impatient. I stayed there for seven days the last time. We simply need to wait.” Fang Can smiled as he looked at her delicate cheek. “Besides, even if we can’t return, Senior is welcome to live here with me for as long as you like. There’s no rent to pay, so you can rest easy.”

Feeling his gaze upon her, Jiang Ning’an turned her face aside uneasily. She was still unaccustomed to being watched so closely by a man.

She instinctively supported her chest with both hands and scolded him, “Is this merely a question of where I live? If I’m trapped here for the rest of my life, what will become of my teachers and family?”

“Didn’t you worry about your family the first time you disappeared?” Jiang Ning’an asked.

“No,” Fang Can replied instantly.

Seeing her astonished expression, Fang Can explained calmly, “Once those two got rich, they spent every day traveling all over the country. Apart from sending me money as usual each month, I only see them once every two or three years. Whether I cross worlds or not, I won’t be seeing them. What is there to worry about?”

Because the subject had reminded him of his two unreliable, hands-off parents, Fang Can curled his lips and lost interest in continuing the conversation. He took out another grain of arsenic, swallowed it, and resumed his training.

Over the next few days, Fang Can kept the suitcase with him almost constantly, ensuring that he would be able to bring it along when he crossed worlds.

As he trained his physical strength, his body grew stronger by the day, practically taking on a new form every twenty-four hours.

Although his appearance remained unchanged, it was as though a tyrannosaurus had been crammed inside a narrow human shell, ready at any moment to tear through flesh and reveal the colossal creature within.

His physical transformation was not the only change. Fang Can’s inner spirit grew stronger alongside his flesh and blood.

The guards stationed outside the house would occasionally sense a terrifying aura radiating from within, making their entire bodies shudder in fear.

After experiencing it so many times, they could only sigh inwardly that he truly was a superpowered individual. His presence was simply on another level.

…

“Thump, thump, thump!”

Four days later, inside the villa, Fang Can stared at his right fist and slowly clenched it. As his muscles exerted force, the great tendons within his body seemed to tighten like steel wires.

Flesh-and-Blood Mutation: 8.9%

That man…

From a distance, Jiang Ning’an watched the scene, her emotions churning. Her injuries had already recovered by roughly seventy percent.

Having watched Fang Can improve step by step over the past several days, she knew better than anyone how terrifying his talent was. Even a genius like herself could not summon the slightest thought of competing with him.

In another two days, he should be able to attempt crossing the First Profound Gate.

With that in mind, Jiang Ning’an advised him, “Fang Can, you’re about to cross the First Profound Gate. Just before you break through, you’ll feel a distinct resistance holding you back. Once you sense it, it would be best to rest for several days before gathering all your strength and breaking through the barrier in one push.”

“I understand.” Fang Can nodded lightly. After all, there was value in heeding the experience of those who had come before.

“Senior, next—” Fang Can began, but then he noticed everything before his eyes starting to twist. It felt as though the entire world were on the verge of collapse.

Almost the instant the thought arose, Fang Can seized the suitcase he had kept ready beside him. In the next moment, he vanished from where he stood.

It was not only him. Across the entire territory of the New Kingdom, spatiotemporal energy tides erupted violently in hundreds of locations.

At least several hundred people were swept into the spatial turbulence by that surge of temporal energy. Naturally, Jiang Ning’an—who had been longing to return—was among them.

“Pop!”

When Fang Can came to his senses, the surrounding environment had already changed. In the dimly lit library, a candle burned slowly, illuminating a small patch of space.

Before Fang Can, Old Li’s recitation of The Biography of the Great Yan Emperor had not stopped. He continued reading aloud, one word at a time, and everything was exactly as it had been seven days earlier, when Fang Can had crossed over.

Whoosh!

Almost instantly, Fang Can’s right hand flicked. Having already prepared for this in advance, he used the force of his finger to extinguish the candle on the counter from a distance.

To Old Li, an ordinary man, everything suddenly went black, and the room sank into absolute darkness.

“What happened? How did the oil lamp go out?” Unaccustomed to the darkness, he murmured in confusion.

“Old Li, perhaps the wind blew in from outside.” Fang Can’s calm voice drifted through the darkness.

After waiting several seconds, Old Li’s eyes were still unable to make out anything in the dark. By then, Fang Can had changed back into the uniform of the Tiger Fiend Sect and relit the candle with a fire striker.

Ignoring the minor interruption, Old Li continued reading, unaware of the delight filling Fang Can’s heart.

The flow of time in the two worlds really is suspended relative to each other.

Behind Fang Can, in the blind spot of Old Li’s vision, a modern suitcase lay safely behind his chair.

Now that he understood the difference in the passage of time between the two worlds, Fang Can finally relaxed completely.

The current situation was practically the best possible outcome. At least he would not have to face expulsion from the Tiger Fiend Sect after returning.

Since that was the case, he could finally make proper arrangements.

Fang Can narrowed his eyes slightly. As he listened to Old Li’s explanation, he was already planning the next day’s itinerary.

Now that he had made an initial breakthrough in martial arts, what was the point of restraint or suppression? It was all nonsense.

Tomorrow, he would go straight to the Martial Training Hall and break the legs of those senior disciples who had once dared to rob him.

A gentleman took revenge before the night was over. By Fang Can’s subjective sense of time, nearly ten full days had passed since the robbery. If he did not take revenge now, was he supposed to wait until the New Year?
