Chapter 27: I Am a Superpowered Being, I'm Laying It All Out!

Throughout Z City, everyone raised their heads toward the sky, keeping wary eyes on their surroundings.
A faint fear of the unknown lingered in their eyes, for the air-raid sirens had been blaring for more than ten minutes.
At first, no one paid much attention to the disturbance. They assumed it was merely an ordinary warning about a superpowered battle—until the disaster proved to be connected to every single person…
At Midtown High School, the prolonged sirens echoing across the city prompted some students to pull out their phones and go online to complain. But they soon realized that something was wrong.
“What’s going on? My phone has no signal.”
“It’s not that my phone has no signal. Mine still shows full bars, but I can’t log into any video websites.”
“Damn it, this superpowered individual is incredibly strong. They can actually stop us from going online!”
…
By the window in the corner, Fang Can tilted his head and surveyed the entire class, looking quite at ease.
After all, his superpower—his Disaster Detection Radar—had yet to sound an alarm. That meant the situation was still within a controllable range.
So there was no need to panic. It was nothing serious.
Besides, watching these adorable classmates—who normally shouted every day about making rivers of blood, only to fall into chaos the moment something actually happened—was rather entertaining.
Fang Can casually took out his phone and checked the signal. Sure enough, it showed full bars. Yet when he opened the Quick-Shake B-Forum app, it refused to load.
The students could still call one another normally, but whenever they tried contacting someone outside Z City, the call would be marked as unavailable.
Could this be some kind of firewall within a firewall?
The thought surfaced in Fang Can’s mind. How could there be another wall inside the wall?
Before he had time to think any further, a signal began automatically connecting to everyone’s electronic devices. Their phones started downloading a file called The Five Elements Moistening-Placement Art.
The Five Elements Leap-Placement Art?
Fang Can’s brows drew sharply together. Something was definitely wrong.
The entire file was only seventy megabytes, and within moments, everyone had finished downloading it.
Suspicious, Fang Can opened the file. The title on the opening page nearly made his eyes go dark.
The Five Elements Moistening-Placement Art: The Mortal-Shedding Body Chapter.
“Damn it. That idealist martial arts stuff is still chasing me.”
Fang Can was utterly speechless. He casually flipped through the document.
After skipping past the preface, table of contents, history of martial arts, the nation’s contributions to martial-arts research, the bottlenecks in the field’s recent development, the structure of martial arts in the country, prospects for the future, and a whole host of other textbook-style nonsense, he finally reached the actual text—which consisted of only a few pages.

After reading about the 108 acupoints in the human body, as well as the Method of Playing Roles and the Myriad Forms and Shapes Fist, Fang Can finally confirmed that this was genuine idealist martial arts.
Then, recalling the signals outside the city that had been blocked and the sudden air-raid sirens, a troubling thought began to form in his mind.
A moment later, a video appeared before everyone’s eyes. A young man in an orange shirt waved at the camera and said, “To everyone in Z City, on behalf of the Dragon Group, allow me to congratulate you in advance on becoming the target of this year’s Carnival Day.”
As the young man spoke, everyone in the class felt as though they had fallen into an icy abyss. Their hands and feet turned cold. No one had expected the Carnival Day they had been discussing so fervently to be so close at hand.
“How could this happen? I want to leave!”
“Damn it, there are more than nine hundred cities across the country. Why did they have to draw ours?”
“I want out of the city! I want out!”
…
With the young man’s announcement, the entire city erupted into an uproar. Everyone knew exactly what happened to cities selected as targets for Carnival Day.
The young man in the video knew nothing about their commotion—and did not care to know. He continued smiling as he said, “The entire perimeter of Z City has now been sealed off. Anyone attempting to leave the city will be attacked. This will continue until Carnival Day comes to an end.”
“During this period, there will be no law whatsoever within the city. Personnel will only be sent to take over after Carnival Day.”
“Also, the file I sent you contains the latest research findings. If you work hard at practicing, it may slightly increase your chances of survival.”
“If any of you manage to develop a sense of qi before Carnival Day, each of you will receive a ten-million-yuan reward.”
“Finally, good luck.”
With that, the young man smiled and waved at everyone before severing the connection himself.
As the phone screens went black, the entire school fell silent for a brief moment. Then an enormous uproar exploded.
In an instant, wailing, screams, and angry shouts spread throughout the city.
It seemed that madness was about to descend upon the entire place.
In Building Two of Midtown High School, the crisp sound of shattering glass rang out as a chair smashed through a window and flew out of the classroom.
A teacher glared furiously at the buzz-cut boy before him. “Zhang Yang, what do you think you’re doing? Isn’t everything chaotic enough already?”
The only answer he received was a punch that smashed into his face.
With a single Respect-the-Teacher-and-Honor-the-Dao Fist, the buzz-cut boy knocked the teacher flat. Under the terrified gazes of the entire class, he shouted:

“I’ve been sick of studying this garbage for ages. Functions, geometry—I don’t even want to hear those words anymore.”
“You all heard him. There’s no law now. Who’s going to care about exams or studying? I’m done!”
With that, the buzz-cut boy strode out of the classroom under the eyes of the entire class. No one dared stop him.
This is getting serious.
In the corner, Fang Can shook his head helplessly.
From here on, incidents that disrupted the city’s order would only multiply.
Robbery, murder, and countless other acts would plunge the city into turmoil. Under such a vicious cycle, by the time Carnival Day ended, the city would probably be giving Los Santos a run for its money.
So… should I step in?
Fang Can looked at the chaotic classroom and pondered.
If he revealed his identity as a superpowered individual and combined it with his current physical strength, he might not be incapable of stabilizing the city’s public order.
After all, the difference between order and disorder came down to hope. As a superpowered individual, he could serve as a guarantee of credibility in the short term.
Caught between hesitation and resolve, Fang Can casually pulled a coin from his pocket, preparing to leave the decision to fate.
He flicked the coin into the air. It spun, struck the floor twice, and somehow lodged itself upright in a crack in the ground.
What does this mean?
Fang Can stared at the coin standing on edge.
Am I free to do whatever I want?
“Heh!”
The corner of Fang Can’s mouth lifted. He reached down with his right hand, gave the coin a gentle pinch, and plucked it from the floor.
By then, the entire classroom had descended into chaos. Some were terrified, while others were excited, as though they were celebrating a festival.
Then everyone suddenly felt their hearts tighten, as if some great terror had descended upon them.
Without any prompting, every person in the room instinctively turned to look behind them.
By the window in the corner, Fang Can placed the side of the coin representing complete freedom on the desk, then slowly rose to his feet.
No one dared meet his eyes. No one dared speak. It was as though the person standing before them possessed a terrifying majesty.
After using the aura of his newly learned Heart Aspect to suppress the entire class, Fang Can stood amid their fearful, expectant, and envious gazes, spread his hands, and said:
“I’m a superpowered individual… There, I’ve said it.”
