Chapter Sixteen: The Superpowered One’s Favor Can Never Be Repaid

“Where... is this place?”
In Z City, neon lights flickered along the streets as a clear female voice echoed through the night.
A sword-wielding woman dressed in elegant white robes had appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the city street. She stood alert, scanning her surroundings.
Curiosity toward the unknown mingled in the young woman’s eyes as she gazed in confusion at the towering buildings around her.
The furnishings, layout, and various creations here were all vastly different from those in her original home.
“I distinctly remember resting at the Mistcloud Pavilion. When I came to my senses, I was already here. And now the sky is fully bright... Could some sect master be using a spatial-transference technique to toy with a junior?”
The woman’s clear voice reverberated down the empty street, yet no one answered, even after a long while.
It was early morning. The woman swept her gaze across the surroundings, and in the very next instant, her body vanished from where she stood without causing the slightest disturbance.
At the spot where she had been, the surveillance cameras of modern society faithfully recorded everything.
...
Early that morning, Fang Can let out a soft yawn.
Because the two worlds had different time zones, he had gone from burning the midnight oil while listening to stories in the other world to arriving in the modern world at dawn. In a few hours, he would still have to sling his schoolbag over his shoulder and go to class.
As for whether he could skip school?
Of course not!
The laws of the New Nation were extremely strict toward ordinary citizens. Even cutting class counted as a crime. If you asked for leave without a legitimate reason, the police really would come knocking to ask what the hell you had been up to.
And if you were the sort of delinquent student who repeatedly skipped school, then congratulations. On the annual Carnival Day, you could look forward to seeing your name on the list.
As far as ordinary citizens were concerned, the New Nation genuinely treated them like screws in a machine, allowing no deviation or transgression of any kind.
That might also have been why Carnival Day had passed so quickly. After all, under normal circumstances, this was about the only excitement people could look forward to.
This nation, established after the Great Ruin, possessed the fixation of the Nation of the Sun, the beauty of the Nation of the Rising East, the administration of the Morning Dynasty, the backbone of the Nation of Law, the unrest of the Nation of Africa, and the labor laws and academic pressure of the Nation of India...
It had gathered together the shortcomings of a hundred different civilizations. As a description, it was not wrong in the slightest.
Fang Can had heard that there were supposedly other countries in this world, and that the New Nation was not the only one.
However, because of restrictions on the internet and official documents, even textbooks were forbidden from mentioning the other countries in detail. As a result, Fang Can remained in a state of knowing nothing about them—not even their names.
Fighting off his mounting drowsiness, Fang Can washed up neatly and changed back into the uniform of Zhongcheng High School.

Feeling refreshed, Fang Can could not help sighing inwardly. Bathing and the like in the other world was ultimately nowhere near as convenient as it was in the modern world. A little obsessive about cleanliness, he always felt that he had never washed himself thoroughly enough.
He shouldered his schoolbag, left the house, and squeezed onto the subway, traveling toward Zhongcheng High School alongside the office workers.
Senior Class One.
The moment Fang Can entered the classroom, he saw several classmates enthusiastically debating some issue.
Only after moving closer did he realize that they were excitedly discussing which city would be selected for this year’s Carnival, as well as what sort of game would win the vote.
“I voted for Sin Approval. What did you vote for?” asked a freckle-faced student cheerfully.
A somewhat portly boy laughed. “I still prefer Unlimited Combat Across the City. It was only discovered three years ago, but it proved that the real experts are hiding among the people.”
“Rapid Pursuit is pretty good too. We all know how it works, but it’s never won the vote.”
...
As the students continued discussing the matter, they noticed Fang Can approaching and smiled.
“Fang Can, what did you vote for?”
“I didn’t vote.” Fang Can shook his head and casually brushed them off. “But if I had to choose, the Human Eradication Plan sounds pretty fun.”
Hearing Fang Can’s answer, they all nodded in approval of his taste.
They were still chatting idly when the school bell rang. Everyone who had been laughing and talking immediately composed themselves and returned to their seats.
Before long, a middle-aged man carrying a lesson plan entered the classroom.
The first class of the day was language arts.
“Class representative, collect the homework assigned last lesson. Everyone else, turn to page seventeen.”
At the language teacher’s words, the entire class flipped to the designated page in unison.
“Last lesson, we reviewed the classic text from the Previous Era, ‘Zou Ji Admonishes the King of Qi to Accept Counsel.’ Today’s lesson is even more important, so listen carefully. It will be a key topic on the upcoming examination.”
Following the teacher’s instructions, Fang Can looked down at the material on page seventeen:
‘The Superhuman’s Debt of Gratitude Can Never Be Repaid: Satellite Shot Down in Earth’s Suborbital Space!’
The language teacher adjusted his glasses.
“Now, read these two pages aloud together.”
At the teacher’s command, everyone in the classroom, Fang Can included, began reciting the lesson in unison.

[—Late at night, after finishing his official duties, Superhuman F did not rest...
When faced with his attendant’s words of concern, Superhuman F, despite his exhaustion, said, “The greater the ability, the greater the responsibility. Although we superhumans possess power superior to ordinary people, that does not mean we can slack off.”
As he spoke, Superhuman F raised his head and gazed into the pitch-black night sky.
“If only the whole world could be as peaceful as this night sky.”
The moment he finished speaking, Superhuman F bent down, picked up a pebble from the ground, and hurled it into the sky.
“Damn evil enemy!”
In the next instant, the sky suddenly blazed with light. A white streak cut across the darkness, illuminating the earth like a falling star.
Facing the attendant’s bewildered gaze, Superhuman F explained, “That was a surveillance satellite belonging to another evil nation. I just used my superhuman strength to knock it down.”
What a wonderful Superhuman F! What magnificent superhuman power!
The superhuman’s debt of gratitude can never be repaid. The superhuman’s... ]
Inside the classroom, Fang Can followed the rest of his classmates in preparing for the examination, earnestly reviewing the knowledge they had already studied once before.
Meanwhile, with the eruption of the energy tide, the New Nation had quietly entered a state of emergency.
Of the hundreds of cities across the New Nation, every city near the energy tide was subjected to a rigorous investigation.
With the information networks of modern society spread far and wide and reports pouring in from every direction, it took only a few hours of investigation to uncover something suspicious.
Within the Dragon Group, an organization composed entirely of superhumans, a scarred middle-aged man studied the collected intelligence.
His right hand tapped lightly against the wooden tabletop as he watched the video footage before him.
During this period, more than a dozen people had suddenly appeared within surveillance range at the precise moment the energy tide erupted. They were dressed in ancient clothing, and differed in appearance, age, and gender.
Thinking of a certain hypothesis, the middle-aged man could not help twitching the corner of his mouth.
“A twin world? Could such a thing really exist? Interesting. Truly interesting.”
With that thought in mind, he spoke.
“Send the Dragon Group out. Capture all of those... humans in the footage.”
