Chapter 64 Well Deserved, Lu Tantan's God of Wealth
The actions of Lu Tantand and He Feifei sent a ripple of shock through all the minor demons under Mo Fan's command, their expressions varying greatly.
Buliang, Red-Eye, and Zhazha were naturally brimming with joy at this moment.
They were the first batch to defect to Mo Fan. It is no exaggeration to say that Mo Fan's success or failure dictated their future prospects. Therefore, over the past half-month, not only had the three personal attendants been filled with anxiety, but the minor demons had felt the same way. After all, until Mo Fan's status was officially confirmed, a lingering sense of unease remained in their hearts.
Yet now, all was well, and the heavy stone weighing on their minds could finally be put down.
Conversely, the spider demon Eighth and his two companions wore gloomy expressions, and even the Third Brother could not help sighing softly. They understood that from this moment onward, they had no other choice; they had no option but to revere Laobao as their master. Otherwise, they would likely suffer the agonizing torment of being skinned and deboned.
What they never anticipated, however, was that the two personal attendants of the higher-ranking commanders would personally deliver the identity token.
"Congratulations to Master on successfully promoting to Commander!"
The Third Brother spoke up first to offer his congratulations, instantly casting any petty schemes to the back of his mind.
"Congratulations, Master!!"
Hearing this, the rest of the minor demons snapped back to their senses and rushed to congratulate Mo Fan. The loudest and most resonant voice among them belonged none other than Red-Eye. From this day forward, he would be a genuine personal attendant to a demon commander, his status and standing vastly superior to before, making him immensely glorious.
"Mm. From now on, follow me diligently, and I will certainly not treat you unfairly."
Mo Fan nodded, glancing down at the identity token in his hand. He noticed it was identical to the scorpion demon's token, save for one detail: the engraved emblem was no longer a scorpion, but a toad.
"Many thanks to the two of you for personally delivering this identity token. I am deeply grateful!"
With a flick of his wrist, Mo Fan tucked the identity token into his sleeve. He glanced toward the distance, where the One-Eyed Demon had just withdrawn his gaze, before turning back to the two attendant commanders with a faint smile. "If the two of you don't mind, I'd like to invite you to enjoy this scorching grand assembly together. Once the competition concludes, please accompany me back to my dwelling, where I shall certainly host a proper banquet for you both!"
A banquet?
At these words, both Lu Tantand and He Feifei's eyes lit up, as if they had thought of something. After a brief moment of contemplation, they nodded one after the other, signaling their subordinate minor demons to sit cross-legged alongside them.
"If I may ask, I've heard that personal attendant commanders generally do not command subordinate demons, yet both of you seem to keep minor demons around. How is that?" Mo Fan asked curiously, looking at the two demons.
"According to the rules of Black Wind Mountain, those who serve as personal attendants indeed do not need to build their own faction or forces. However, we are still demon commanders after all; if we didn't have a few minor demons to handle menial tasks, it would look rather unbecoming," Lu Tantand said with a smile.
"True. Moreover, while personal attendant commanders like us do have minor demons under our command, the number is strictly limited. We certainly don't hold real power like you patrol commanders do," He Feifei added with a shrug.
Despite her words, the female demon's tone betrayed not the slightest hint of envy.
After pondering this for a moment, Mo Fan understood quite a bit.
As the confidants of demon generals, personal attendant commanders naturally needed to avoid arousing suspicion. Consequently, they were forbidden from building their own independent networks to prevent generating distrust from the demon generals. Thus, aside from keeping two or three minor demons for chores, their overall military strength fell far short of patrol commanders.
However, personal attendant commanders enjoyed one massive advantage: they were exempt from routine patrols. Furthermore, as trusted aides to the demon generals, they naturally received preferential treatment and frequent rewards, placing their social standing far above that of ordinary patrol commanders.
Next, Mo Fan engaged in casual chatter with the two demons. Before long, a figure approached them.
One-Eyed?
Mo Fan narrowed his eyes slightly, lifting his head to gaze at the approaching figure. Uncertain of the demon's intentions, he smiled and said, "Isn't this Commander One-Eyed? What kind of wind blew your esteemed self over here?"
One-Eyed furrowed his brow, ignoring Mo Fan entirely. Instead, he cast a wary and apprehensive glance at the two personal attendant commanders by Mo Fan's side. After a brief silence, his gaze shifted back to Mo Fan and the remaining minor demons.
"Where is your master?" One-Eyed demanded.
Hearing this, the minor demons wore strange expressions and turned to look at Mo Fan at the front.
Mo Fan rubbed his chin and asked, "Which master are you referring to?"
"Ugly thing, are you playing the fool with this commander?"
"I am naturally talking about that damned toxic scorpion!"
One-Eyed sneered, fixing a cold, piercing glare on Mo Fan.
"Hey! One-Eyed, this isn't within the territory designated for your Fourth General. Are you here to provoke us?!"
Lu Tantand spoke up, staring at One-Eyed with a languid expression.
"Although the Third General and that vicious wolf are absent, this is still no place for an arrogant one-eyed wolf to run amok."
He Feifei spoke with equal calm, yet her words carried an overwhelming sense of dominance.
"You..."
One-Eyed was choked with anger, yet he managed to suppress his fury. Taking a deep breath, he said, "I am not here to pick a fight today. I have business with that toxic scorpion, so I have no time to bicker with you!"
"No, no, no, you certainly have time. Besides, just bickering is far too dull. How about the two of us spar a bit? Whichever of us loses surrenders all their possessions—how does that sound?"
Lu Tantand chuckled, looking thoroughly unbothered and reckless.
This remark darkened One-Eyed's complexion. Choosing to ignore Lu Tantand, he turned his gaze back to Mo Fan and the other demons, pressing, "I'll ask one more time: where is that toxic scorpion?"
"Hey! You one-eyed wolf, do you really think this lord wouldn't dare deal with you?"
"Did I give you permission to question me?"
"Listen here, Brother Laobao, don't answer this fellow. Or if you do, make him pay!"
"What do we call this again... Ah right, paid information!"
Seeing that One-Eyed dared to ignore him, Lu Tantand immediately started cursing and swearing.
What on earth is paid information? Isn't it supposed to be knowledge payment?
Mo Fan wore a melancholic expression, flashed a polite smile at Lu Tantand, and then told One-Eyed, "The toxic scorpion isn't here, or rather, he has gone missing. If you have anything to say, you can tell me instead."
"What?!"
One-Eyed's expression shifted drastically as he asked, "You said he's missing?"
"That's right. If you don't believe me, you can ask them."
As he spoke, Mo Fan gestured toward Buliang and the other minor demons.
One-Eyed frowned and indeed looked toward the minor demons.
"Indeed, that scorpion demon went missing long ago!"
The minor demons nodded in unison, corroborating Mo Fan's words.
"How long has he been missing?"
One-Eyed turned his gaze back to Mo Fan, his expression rather unsightly.
"Are you deaf or just utterly lacking in comprehension?"
"You come over here to question us without paying—are you trying to freeload?!"
Lu Tantand was growing displeased. One-Eyed's repeated disregard for his words had ignited a fire in his chest.
With a grimace, One-Eyed spat out a stalk of spiritual grass and tossed it directly to Lu Tantand. "This is a low-grade spiritual grass. Now shut your mouth!"
"Hehe, someone with coin is a grandfather! Continue as you were!"
Lu Tantand grinned from ear to ear, unceremoniously pocketing the spiritual grass with a triumphant look on his face.
Seeing this, Mo Fan widened his eyes in sheer disbelief.
"Damn it, you can actually do that?"
"Bloody deer demon, that was supposed to be mine!"
Though Mo Fan cursed inwardly, in order to drive this dangerous fellow away sooner, he refrained from making things difficult and stated plainly, "He has been missing for about half a month."
"Half a month... Damned bastard!"
One-Eyed sneered, asked no further questions, and turned on his heel to leave.
"Brother Laobao, not bad at all! You are simply my god of wealth. In just this short moment, you've earned me a low-grade spiritual grass. Tsk tsk, I'm starting to grow quite fond of you!"
Seeing One-Eyed depart, Lu Tantand chuckled heartily, leaving Mo Fan feeling deeply disgusted.
