Chapter 58 Master Laibao, Subduing All Demons
Inside Mo Fan’s dwelling, a group of demons walked in grumbling and cursing.
"Red-eyes, did the master really tell you to bring us here?"
"Exactly! You little brat better not be playing tricks on us, or I'll squeeze the yolk right out of you!"
"Doesn't the master usually stay in his own cave? Why have we come to this ugly thing's dwelling this time?"
"..."
Faced with the questioning of the demons, Red-eyes could not help but raise a hand to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead. In his heart, he prayed that everything Mo Fan had said was true, otherwise he would be doomed!
Yet outwardly, he said with an air of nonchalance, "The master is indeed here. How could I dare to deceive you all? Besides, I wouldn't know where the master wants to see everyone either!"
Hearing this, the demons nodded slightly. Dali the ox demon laughed heartily and said, "I believe Red-eyes! Although he's usually stingy, he wouldn't be the least bit careless in a matter this important."
Hearing Dali say this, the rest of the demons quieted down considerably.
"Laifu, your nose is sharp. Smell around and see if you can catch the master's scent?" Spider demon Lao Ba looked toward the dog demon beside him.
"No need to smell. I caught the master's scent the moment I walked in, along with a stench of blood!" Laifu said with a curl of his lip.
A stench of blood?
The demons exchanged glances.
Soon, the demons reached the depths of the dwelling, but they saw no sign of the scorpion demon. Their brows furrowed slightly, and one after another, they turned their gazes back to Red-eyes.
"Master, Red-eyes has brought them here!"
After clearing his throat, Red-eyes called out in a loud voice.
*Splash, splash—*
Suddenly, the sound of rippling water rang out, and the demons turned their attention toward the spring pool outside the back door.
A figure wrapped in an extremely dense demonic aura leaped into the dwelling, then walked step by step toward the crowd.
"Red-eyes pays respects to the master!"
Seeing the newcomer, Red-eyes spoke with a respectful expression.
Seeing this, the other demons were about to speak as well, when the dog demon Laifu suddenly shouted harshly, "He is not Master Heizi!"
"Who on earth are you?!"
As soon as these words were spoken, all the demons were startled. They cast suspicious and apprehensive glances at the figure covered entirely in demonic aura.
At that moment, the demonic aura on the surface of the man's body began to thin out gradually, revealing an ordinary face.
Yet when the demons saw the person's true appearance, they were dumbfounded.
Laibao!
It was actually Laibao the toad demon!!
"Good for you, Laibao! How dare you impersonate the master! You—"
Dog demon Laifu flew into a rage, but before his words could fully leave his mouth, his body trembled violently. He lowered his head to look at his own chest.
A crimson object, resembling a heavy spear, had pierced straight through his body!
*Whoosh!*
The next instant, the tongue-arrow was retracted, pulling Laifu's body along with it straight toward Mo Fan.
Mo Fan opened his mouth and swallowed Laifu directly into his internal space!
"Alright, it's much quieter in my ears now!"
Mo Fan grinned and chuckled, as if nothing had just happened. Yet this sudden turn of events chilled the hearts of the remaining demons.
Dog demon Laibao had just died just like that?
"Laibao, what on earth is going on here?"
Lao Ba asked with a gloomy expression, while casting a glance at Red-eyes, who had long since cowered behind Mo Fan, a murderous intent flashing in his eyes.
"That's right, Laibao. What are you trying to do?"
Zhaza the sparrow also looked at Mo Fan with a somewhat uncomprehending gaze, and Dali did the same.
"This is precisely why I gathered you all here."
Mo Fan finally spoke slowly, and then declared, "I am here to announce a matter to you!"
"What matter?" Retainer Lao San looked coldly at Mo Fan.
"Heizi the scorpion demon is dead! Starting today, I shall lead you all!"
Mo Fan’s lips curved upward slightly. As he spoke, his hands unconsciously and slowly spread open, then lifted upward.
What?!
Hearing this, all the demons were struck with terror.
The scorpion demon Heizi was dead?!
"Laibao, what nonsense are you spouting? How dare you utter such treasonous words! Believe it or not, we'll kill you right now?!"
Lao San spoke in a deep voice, his gaze fixed on Mo Fan turning exceptionally icy.
"Are you certain you want to fight me to the death?"
Mo Fan sneered. Boundless demonic aura surged from his body once more, and the aura belonging to a Demon Soldier realm cultivator manifested along with it.
"He really has reached the Demon Soldier realm!"
Lao San's expression shifted, his eyes filled with doubt and apprehension. For a moment, he did not dare to provoke him further.
"I have told you my words, so now it is your turn to give me your answer. Submit or die!"
Mo Fan's voice sounded somewhat chilling, and then he smiled amiably at the demons again. "So, what exactly is your answer?"
"This..."
Dali the ox demon was the first to hesitate, while Zhaza the sparrow spoke up once more, "Laibao, the master... ah bah, is that scorpion demon really dead?"
Hearing this, Mo Fan seemed to recall something. He opened his mouth and spat out a tally—a wooden tablet with two characters carved onto it, along with the pattern of a scorpion.
"The master's identity tally!"
Retainer Lao Liu let out a cry of surprise, recognizing the object immediately.
As the confidant and mount of the scorpion demon, he naturally knew many things about him and could readily identify such items.
Hearing Lao Liu's words, the demons instantly believed Mo Fan's previous statement without a shred of doubt.
"Since the scorpion demon is dead, what is there to hesitate about?"
"I, Zhaza, pay respects to Master Laibao!"
Zhaza was the first to voice his submission, hopping up and down on Dali's horns.
"I also pay respects to Master Chief!" Dali rumbled in a muffled voice.
Several of the minor demons had quite deep friendships with Mo Fan, and furthermore, Mo Fan had risked being made into a feast by descending the mountain just to find Red-eyes this time. To Dali and Zhaza, this was a demon worthy of following!
Seeing this, Mo Fan's face immediately broke into a wider smile, and he cast his gaze toward the three retainers.
Although these three fellows were all confidants of the scorpion demon, Mo Fan did not believe they would risk their lives for the scorpion demon against him.
Of course, he didn't fear them fighting to the death either.
There was only one answer waiting for them. If they answered wrongly, Mo Fan would kill them without the slightest hesitation!
What he wanted was a group of demons he could use, which was why Laifu had been killed right away. Aside from serving to awe the group of minor demons, it was also because Mo Fan knew Laifu could not be employed.
The three retainers wore troubled expressions and did not speak immediately. Lao Liu and Lao Ba both looked toward Lao San.
Seeing this, Mo Fan also looked at the fellow, curious what choice he would make.
"Although that scorpion demon deserved to die, he was, after all, appointed as a Chief by the Third General, and he holds the identity tally. By killing him, you are committing a crime of insubordination. According to the rules of Black Wind Mountain, you will be made into a banquet dish! Of course, unless you also win the recognition of the Third General to replace the scorpion demon! However, the Third General is not currently on the mountain. For you to gain his recognition will be as difficult as ascending to heaven." Retainer Lao San shook his head.
"Whether I can gain recognition is my business. Right now, I only want to know what choice you are making?" Mo Fan continued to look at the three demons.
"If I say no, will you kill me?" Lao San looked at Mo Fan.
"Yes!"
Mo Fan answered without a moment's hesitation.
"Lao San pays respects to the master!" Lao San immediately forced a bitter smile.
With Lao San taking the lead, Lao Ba and Lao Liu quickly submitted as well.
"Very well. Since that is the case, swallow these!"
Mo Fan smiled and waved his hand. Instantly, three medicinal pills flew out from his grasp, hovering right in front of the three retainer demons.
"What is this?"
At this sight, the expressions of Lao Ba and the other two changed drastically.
"A pledge of allegiance. Only after swallowing these can I put my mind at ease regarding you." Mo Fan made no attempt to conceal his intent, then smiled. "Rest assured, although this is a deadly poison, it is under my control and will not act up arbitrarily."
"Deadly poison?!"
Hearing this, the eyelids of the three demons twitched violently.
"Now, either you eat it, or you get eaten by me. Choose for yourselves!"
Mo Fan spoke leisurely. Looking at the ugly expressions on the three demons' faces, a slight arc slowly formed at the corners of his mouth...
