Chapter 57: Human-Skin Map, Stage Three Dragon Loach
The death of the scorpion demon gave Mofan a clear positioning for his future path.
Right now, the most dangerous thing on this Black Wind Mountain to him was the scorpion demon. Since this fellow was already dead, Black Wind Mountain was now an ideal hiding place for Mofan!
As a demon, it was always better to stay within a demon's nest.
Not to mention, there was a continuous supply of dragon loach here available for his cultivation.
With these favorable conditions, Mofan was by no means satisfied with remaining a mere low-ranking demon soldier.
"To become a demon king, let it begin right here on Black Wind Mountain, starting with taking over the position of the scorpion demon leader!"
Mofan muttered softly, a sharp glint flashing across his eyes.
Red Eyes had departed, carrying out Mofan's task with a mix of complex and excited emotions.
He never could have imagined that the toad demon, previously deemed the most hopeless of all, could climb above his head in such a short period of time.
The scorpion demon's death did not make Red Eyes feel sad at all; instead, the pent-up frustration and gloom in his heart completely dissipated.
The agony of having his skin peeled had penetrated deep into his bones, naturally leaving Red Eyes extremely resentful toward Lord Scorpion Demon.
Now, things were fine. The scorpion demon was dead, and although Lai Bao would step up to fill the vacancy, he, Red Eyes, would also be heavily reused. No longer a regular lackey bossed around by other demons, he had transformed into a personal attendant of a demon leader!
At this thought, the steps of Red Eyes became much lighter as he walked.
After Red Eyes left, Mofan waited for another half-shang of time, making sure the other had traveled far away, before opening his mouth and spitting out an object.
Mofan looked down at the scroll in his hand, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
This scroll had appeared out of nowhere; at least, it had not been there previously, leading Mofan to deduce that it was most likely left behind after the scorpion demon died.
"The unknown power of the internal space will decompose living creatures, so those lifeless objects hidden in the pouches survived instead..."
Mofan murmured to himself as he looked at the scroll before him.
This was not his first time encountering this. When he swallowed the black fox demon using the Heaven-Swallowing Divine Skill, he had actually discovered this point, but the black fox demon had not left behind anything of value, causing Mofan to directly ignore it.
Now that the scorpion demon was dead, it had indeed left behind a few things. Aside from some jars, bottles, and numerous dried carcasses of poisonous insects, there was this scroll right before him.
Mofan did not have much interest in those poisonous creatures, so he took out this scroll first, intending to investigate and uncover its secrets.
The scroll was not large, looking more like an animal hide with the fur removed. It appeared somewhat dark, and it was hard to tell what kind of beast skin it was.
Mofan casually unrolled the beast-skin scroll, and a black painting suddenly came into his view.
"Could this be... a map?"
(The map of this book is currently being drawn and will be presented later. Thank you all for your love and support.)
Mofan was surprised, seeing an ink-wash map within the scroll, which somewhat exceeded his expectations.
"Could this be a map of this world?"
A ripple stirred in Mofan's heart, and he hurriedly unfolded the scroll completely, only to have a yellowish, thin hide flutter down from it.
Before that palm-sized skin could land on the ground, Mofan snatched it in his hand. Picking it up to examine, he saw it was covered in dense, intricate writing.
Mofan paused in a daze. He did not recognize a single character on it, yet they looked somewhat familiar.
Thinking of this, he hurriedly retrieved the book suspected of being a cultivation manual. Comparing the two, he discovered they indeed used the exact same script, and some characters were even identical!
"What on earth is recorded on this?"
Mofan muttered to himself. After pondering for a moment, he began to examine the yellowish thin hide in his hand once more. He found it extremely delicate with extremely fine pores, appearing much smoother compared to the beast skin of the scroll.
After scrutinizing it for a long time, suspicion and astonishment flickered in Mofan's eyes. Then, he gave it a sniff, and his expression instantly turned dramatic.
"Human skin!"
Mofan's pupils constricted slightly. This turned out to be a piece of human skin!
Human skin recording human writing...
Although Mofan did not understand what was written on it, it certainly was not ordinary; otherwise, why would it be recorded on human skin?
"Wait... why would the scorpion demon have this?"
"Could it be that he had already learned human script long ago?" Mofan was filled with doubt, but ultimately offered a wry smile.
Whether or not the scorpion demon understood human writing no longer mattered, seeing as he was already dead.
"It seems I will definitely have to make a trip to the human territories later on!"
Mofan thought to himself, then turned his gaze back to the map. He discovered that the map did not seem complete, nor did it look like a map of the entire world, but rather more like a map of a mountain range.
However, were there not far too many mountain ranges depicted on it?
A strange feeling arose in Mofan's heart. After carefully observing the map, he actually managed to find the location of Black Wind Mountain on it.
Only then did he realize that Black Wind Mountain was merely situated at the edge of this map, or rather, the entire Demon Spirit Mountain Range was merely located at the edge of this map.
Further inside, there was an even more vast and boundless world!
"Is this where demons live?"
Mofan murmured. After studying the map for a long while, he opened his mouth and swallowed the map back into his internal space.
Then, he lowered his head to look at his chest, discovering that the wound had already scabbed over, and the rest of his injuries had mostly recovered.
This outcome did not surprise Mofan, so he stood up directly, made his way to the back door, and plunged headfirst into the spring pool.
He had not forgotten about the dragon loach.
Returning to the protruding stone wall, Mofan breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the bamboo basket was still intact.
He understood that the dragon loach was still there!
When he casually lifted the lid of the bamboo basket, he indeed found that the dragon loach was still inside. Furthermore, it had already awakened and was crawling on a spiritual stone, gnawing on it.
Looking at this little creature, of which only its two eyes were visible, a ripple stirred in Mofan's heart.
"It can still continue eating spiritual stones... Could the third stage not be the final evolution of the dragon loach?"
Mofan thought to himself, the more he considered it, the more he felt it was possible, and excitement bubbled up uncontrollably.
"Since that's the case, can I continue to nurture it?"
A fleeting thought flashed through Mofan's mind, but he quickly shook his head.
"No, my current state is not optimal. If I were to swallow this dragon loach right now, it might be of some help to my injuries, and perhaps I could even break through!"
"Besides, this bamboo basket is a bit too crude; the dragon loach could chew through it and escape at any moment. Doing so would be too risky..."
Mofan pondered in his heart. Suddenly, opening his mouth, he unleashed his swallowing divine skill, directly swallowing the transparent dragon loach—which had broken through to the third stage—into his stomach!
Boom!
As soon as the dragon loach entered his body, it was immediately decomposed, and right after came a terrifying, tide-like surge of spiritual energy feeding back into him!
"As expected of a river delicacy comparable to a Yellow-grade spiritual medicine, it actually produces far more spiritual energy than the Yellow-grade monkey wine!"
A flicker of pleasant surprise arose in Mofan's heart. Not only that, but he once again felt an itch spreading from the wound on his chest, a sensation akin to new flesh growing.
Mofan looked down and saw that the wound on his chest was healing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
In just a brief moment, there was not a single wound left on Mofan's body, not even a scar remaining.
Feeling the brimming power within his body, Mofan was extremely excited and simply began cultivating underwater.
After an unknown passage of time, a burst of chaotic noises suddenly reached Mofan's ears, causing him to open his eyes.
"Have they all arrived... Very well, I'll just deal with them all at once!"
