As he spoke, Mo Fan reached for the bowl, voicing his displeasure as he did so. “The Third General bestowed this wine upon me. There’s barely any left now, and you still suspect me, Sister!”

“So it was bestowed by the Demon General?”

The beautiful woman’s eyes lit up. She picked up the bowl and drained it in one go, then said, “I was only joking with you, little brother. This wine is fragrant, mellow, smooth, and doesn’t burn the throat. It truly is excellent!”

“Of course it is. I usually can’t bear to drink it myself!”

Mo Fan curled his lip, then shifted his gaze to the sleeping child in the beautiful woman’s arms and smiled. “Sister, didn’t you just ask why I appeared here?”

“Oh? Why?”

At once, the beautiful woman turned her attention back to Mo Fan.

“Our Third General has a particular fondness for eating the hearts of human children, so he ordered me to go into human territory and steal one. The child in your arms seems to be human. Could you give him to me?”

The moment those words left his mouth, the beautiful woman’s expression darkened once again. She snorted. “If you want a child, go and seize one from the humans yourself. You cannot have this one.”

Her expression softened slightly as she continued, “Your sister went to great trouble to abduct this child from human territory. Little brother, don’t be too greedy.”

“In that case, forget it.”

Mo Fan gave an awkward smile and rose to his feet. “It’s getting late, and I’ve eaten my fill. I won’t disturb you any longer. Let us part ways here.”

Since he could not obtain the human child, Mo Fan had no desire to remain with the beautiful woman. After all, she was a Demon Adept, and it was best to keep one’s distance.

“Wait, little brother!”

The beautiful woman suddenly called out, then asked, “I nearly forgot to ask you something. Have you seen a young man in blue robes with a little white fox perched on his shoulder?”

Mo Fan froze. Wasn’t that precisely the description of the human cultivator he had encountered earlier?

Seeing this, the beautiful woman’s eyes narrowed slightly. She smiled and said, “It seems you have seen him. Since you have, I’m afraid I can no longer spare you.”

Her words filled Mo Fan with alarm. He understood everything in an instant and blurted out, “You’re that black fox?!”

At that moment, a flash of red suddenly passed through the beautiful woman’s eyes.

In the next instant, Mo Fan’s gaze became hazy.

“I was unwilling to provoke trouble because you seemed to have some backing. But since you have already encountered that damned human cultivator, I naturally cannot leave you alive. Otherwise, my whereabouts will be completely exposed!”

The beautiful woman sneered repeatedly, then questioned Mo Fan, whose mind was clouded, “What is your name? What kind of demon are you?”

“My name is Mo Fan. The Demon Adept gave me the name Lucky. I’m a toad demon.”

“So you’re a wretched toad!”

The beautiful woman laughed scornfully, then asked, “When did you see that young man in blue with the white fox on his shoulder?”

“I…”

Mo Fan was about to answer when his clouded eyes suddenly regained their clarity. His heart lurched as he realized he had fallen into a trap.

Looking ahead, he saw the beautiful woman sprawled on the ground, clutching her head with both hands and screaming in agony.

“Ah… damn you! What have you done to me?!”

The beautiful woman roared furiously. Her once-beautiful features had stretched grotesquely long, becoming astonishingly similar to a fox’s face.

Seeing this, the fear in Mo Fan’s heart gradually subsided. He gave a cold laugh. “You brought this upon yourself. It seems the medicine has taken effect.”

A moment ago, he had deliberately used his sleeve to conceal what he was doing. In truth, he had poured all his Demon-Drunk Pills and his own poisonous demon weapon into the bowl of wine.

“You… poisoned… me?!”

The beautiful woman flew into a rage. She clenched her teeth, and suddenly something shot out from beneath the black robe behind her, lunging toward Mo Fan.

Mo Fan was startled as well. He retreated while swinging the spear in his hand, knocking the incoming black tail aside.

“Damn toad demon! I’ll swallow you whole and tear you limb from limb!”

The beautiful woman roared. In an instant, demonic aura surged throughout her body. Her entire face twisted into something as hideous as a vengeful ghost, while long, razor-sharp claws grew from her fingers. She lunged straight at Mo Fan.

“I’m afraid you won’t have the chance!”

Mo Fan snorted and suddenly opened his mouth wide.

Divine Ability: Heaven Swallowing!

A terrifying suction force erupted. Almost instantly, the beautiful woman was swallowed into his mouth.

“Ah…!”

A dreadful scream rang out from within Mo Fan’s body, hoarse and desperate. It was the beautiful woman’s final shriek from within the space inside him.

This was the first time Mo Fan had encountered such a situation, and he felt somewhat flustered. He had never imagined that after being drawn into his inner space, the fox demon could still make her voice heard. It was truly unnerving.

He turned his inner sight inward and saw the beautiful woman gradually hunching over amid her screams. In the end, she transformed into a black fox overflowing with demonic aura. A sinister, infant-like wailing issued from its mouth. Yet it ultimately failed to endure and was completely disintegrated by that invisible force, turning into nothingness.

Hum—

At the instant the fox demon vanished, a surging tide of spiritual energy flooded through Mo Fan’s body, accompanied by a trace of demonic energy and a small fragment of memory.

Almost immediately, Mo Fan sensed the spiritual energy swelling within him. Without hesitation, he guided it toward both his legs.

“Ah—!”

Mo Fan cried out in agony as the pain of shattered bones returned, striking deep into his marrow.

Yet the more intense the pain became, the more excited he felt. This was an unavoidable side effect of every transformation into a demon.

However, as the spiritual energy was rapidly consumed, Mo Fan discovered to his dismay that although the energy within him was immense, it was still insufficient to transform both legs into spirit limbs.

He could only grit his teeth and settle for less, mobilizing all the remaining spiritual energy once more and directing it into a single leg.

No one knew how much time passed. When Mo Fan was nearly in danger of fainting from the pain, the sensation of shattered bones finally disappeared. In its place came a warm current that spread over his entire leg, leaving it tingling and numb.

A moment later, Mo Fan looked at his two legs and was rendered speechless.

One of them was a human leg.

The other was still a toad’s leg.

“Did my transformation succeed this time?”

Mo Fan muttered to himself, caught between laughter and tears. The amount of spiritual energy consumed by his fourth transformation had far exceeded his expectations.

“Regardless, this still counts as considerable progress. Once I return to Black Wind Mountain and eat those dragon loaches, I should be able to undergo my fifth transformation. By then, I ought to possess a complete spirit body!”

Mo Fan spoke softly, comforting himself. Then, as if he had thought of something, he stirred the demonic energy within his body and sent it rising toward his eyes.

In an instant, a faint red glow appeared in his pupils, revealing a trace of mystery and eeriness.

“Divine Ability: Bewitching Eyes? No wonder she was suddenly able to control my mind!”

Mo Fan’s heart tightened. Though shaken by the thought of what might have happened, he also felt a surge of excitement.

He had clearly underestimated the power of Heaven Swallowing. This divine ability could not only return part of a beast’s energy to him; it could also extract a demon’s innate divine ability, allowing Mo Fan to acquire such abilities with ease.

It was simply too heaven-defying!

“With this divine ability in hand, how could I possibly fail to grow powerful in the future?”

Mo Fan was delighted. He then turned his gaze toward the human child, who still lay sleeping on the ground.

He immediately walked over and exhaled a thread of demonic aura into the child’s nostrils. Before long, the boy’s eyelids trembled and he awoke.

“Big Brother, who are you?”

The boy climbed up from the ground, then looked around in confusion. “Where am I?”

“You are in the Monster Spirit Mountains,” Mo Fan answered calmly.

“The Monster Spirit Mountains… No, how did I suddenly come here?”

The boy frowned, but soon recalled something. His face filled with horror. “My mother once told me that monsters in the Monster Spirit Mountains eat people!”

“Your mother was right. A fox demon lured you here. I was the one who saved you.”

Mo Fan studied the little boy with curiosity. The child’s ability to adapt was surprisingly strong. Upon learning that Mo Fan had rescued him, he was no longer afraid.

“Thank you for saving me, Big Brother!”

“You must be a demon hunter from among us humans, right?”

The boy gazed at Mo Fan with childlike innocence, his eyes filled with admiration.

“Uh… I suppose I am.”

Looking at the foolishly innocent child, Mo Fan smiled. Then he asked, “Do you know how to read?”
