Volume One, Chapter 61: Being Followed
"Eat up, don't waste it!"
Guo Dong chuckled, holding back only from drinking alcohol, and truly dug into the meal with all his might!
The more he ate like this, the more uncomfortable Liu Yang felt sitting nearby.
Guo Dong really had no intention of making things difficult for Liu Yang.
From Guo Dong's perspective, he had simply used his hands to earn twenty thousand yuan, and his heart was filled with joy.
Shouldn't one eat to their heart's content when they are happy?
Free food, it would be a shame not to eat it!
Moreover, Wang Huan, ever since she stopped vomiting from eating, had also sparked his own appetite!
"Young brother, I wouldn't have guessed you possess such remarkable medical skills at such a tender age! Any interest in coming to the capital to pursue your career?"
Wang Qing sat to one side, feeling happy inside now that his daughter was fine.
He couldn't eat anything himself right now; just watching his daughter eat the way she did made him feel full.
"Not interested!"
Guo Dong's mouth was stuffed to the brim, paying no attention to the occasion whatsoever.
He mumbled with his mouth full, "I'm doing just fine staying in the village. Why would I want to go all the way to the capital?"
As he spoke, he reached out with his chopsticks to pick up a piece of fish and placed it into Meng Xiaohan's bowl.
"Xiaohan, try this. It tastes pretty good. If we use the fish we raise ourselves, it'll probably be even better!"
Meng Xiaohan didn't have much of an appetite either.
The bowl in front of her was already piled high with food, all of it placed there by Guo Dong.
Especially looking at the way he was devouring his food, she had wanted to laugh out loud several times.
She only managed to force it back because there were outsiders present.
Guo Dong was growing more and more confident. The changes in him over the past few days were enormous, as if he had returned to his childhood days.
Guo Dong back then was just like this—never caring about other people's opinions, mischievous and playful, leaving the villagers entirely helpless against him.
Who knew when it started, but he had gradually become reticent and silent!
He would hide upon seeing people and turn his head away after speaking just a few words to someone.
It wasn't just Guo Dong; his grandfather, Guo An, was the exact same way!
Unless you went to his house, you would practically never catch a glimpse of Guo An's shadow anywhere in the village!
"Alright, stop putting food in my bowl. I can't finish all of this!"
A sweet feeling blossomed in Meng Xiaohan's chest, and a blissful smile bloomed across her face.
Wang Qing felt a bit awkward!
However, he refused to give up, pressing on, "Going to the capital is wonderful. Once there, you can be my personal physician.
I guarantee you'll be satisfied with the salary, and as soon as you complete a full year of service, you'll even be assigned a house!"
Such treatment, to say nothing of Meng Yingcai and Tian Fang, even left Meng Xiaohan feeling tempted.
Yet Guo Dong didn't even spare Wang Qing a glance.
He swallowed a mouthful of beverage and let out a hearty burp.
"I'm just a country bumpkin who can't handle the lifestyle of a big city. What on earth would I go there for? Pure suffering!"
Meng Xiaohan could no longer hold it in, suddenly bursting out into laughter!
This man was also petty. He had cured the girl, pocketed the money, and was still holding a grudge over Wang Huan's earlier remarks.
Of course, Wang Qing was entirely unaware of this.
The Wang Huan who had been burying her face in her food suddenly stopped, pulled out a tissue, and dabbed at her mouth.
"I'm sorry."
Those three words, coming from Wang Huan's mouth, were a rare occurrence indeed!
"I'm a broad-minded person and won't hold it against you. What you said was right to begin with—I am just a country bumpkin.
Growing up this long, I haven't even been to this county town more than a few times.
I haven't seen much of the world!"
With that, he stood up and asked Meng Yingcai, "Well then, are you finished eating?"
With such a massive table of dishes, they had been eating for a full hour; it would be a miracle if they weren't stuffed!
"If we're full, let's head back!
Uncle Kun is still waiting at home. If we go back too late, he might start to worry!"
As he spoke, he stood up, ready to leave.
Seeming to remember something, he grabbed the two bottles of fine liquor left on the table.
"Director Liu, since the food isn't finished, I suppose we can pack it up to take away, right?"
Liu Yang's expression instantly collapsed.
"Certainly!"
"Very well then, these two bottles of wine have already been opened, it would be a waste not to drink them. I'll take them back for my grandfather to taste."
A direct slap to the face!
Liu Yang took a deep breath and stood up, "Coming to my place, would I let you leave empty-handed?
Forget it, if you can't finish this wine, just leave it here. When you head back later, I'll have someone prepare two cases for you."
Guo Dong refused to yield, "No way, there's still more than half a bottle left here, it'd be a waste not to finish it!"
Unable to win against Guo Dong, Liu Yang could only watch helplessly as he cradled the two half-bottles of wine and walked out of his hotel.
Standing at the hotel entrance and watching Guo Dong's clumsy driving skills, Wang Qing couldn't help but sigh with emotion, "What an extraordinary person!"
What?
Liu Yang didn't react for a moment!
"To remain completely calm and composed under such circumstances—a person like this either truly understands nothing, or possesses exceptional, extraordinary abilities!
Which category would you say he falls into?"
Liu Yang shook his head; he had figured it out long ago.
He had realized it the last time he went to the village to eat roasted fish.
Guo Dong had negotiated business with him back then without showing any major emotional fluctuations whatsoever.
Even when Xie Minmin helped push his price up to fifty yuan per catty, he didn't utter a single word of thanks.
He had originally assumed that was simply Guo Dong's inherent personality.
Arrogant!
It wasn't until he returned together with Xie Minmin that he learned the truth.
It wasn't like that at all!
The Guo Dong that Xie Minmin first met stood in a crowd like an invisible person.
Had Meng Xiaohan not introduced them, she wouldn't have noticed the fellow at all.
"So Director Wang believes he belongs to the latter type?"
Wang Qing laughed heartily, "You'll have to ask my daughter about that!"
Liu Yang couldn't help but glance at Wang Huan, only to see her face flush red at that moment, turning her head away to the side.
"He won the championship at the National Wushu Tournament when he was just thirteen years old.
Under his hands, you wouldn't even have a chance to resist. Would you say he's an extraordinary person or not?"
Liu Yang was slightly startled, "Are you saying that Guo Dong knows martial arts?"
Wang Qing shook his head, "Whether he knows traditional martial arts or not, I don't know, but he is definitely much more formidable than the bodyguards by my side!"
"That's impossible!"
Before Wang Qing could respond, a cool, detached voice rang out from the side.
"He doesn't know martial arts!"
Oh?
Wang Qing was slightly stunned, unable to help turning to look at his daughter.
"But he is terrifyingly capable. His reflexes are lightning fast, his strength is immense, and his understanding of the human body far surpasses most people's!"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that although he doesn't practice formal martial arts, when fighting someone, he can take them down in the fastest and simplest way possible.
In the words of my former instructor, this is the art of killing!"
If Guo Dong had heard this cold-hearted girl evaluate him in such a manner, he undoubtedly would have given her a thorough scolding.
Utter nonsense about the art of killing.
It was simply because the recent changes in his physique had made his body agile.
Combined with his childhood studies of traditional Chinese medicine and his grasp of human anatomy, he was simply able to suppress opponents swiftly.
Just like inside the private dining room earlier.
When Wang Huan reached out to strike him, the very instant the thought of moving arose on her side, he had already sensed it. While raising a hand to block, he seized her vital pressure point.
It was as simple as that.
Even if he were asked to explain such a technique, he wouldn't be able to do so.
Because he didn't understand it himself!
These abilities were either innate or brought to him as a pleasant surprise by the ancestral gourd.
There were still many more such surprises; he simply hadn't explored them all yet.
They just needed to be unlocked gradually over time!
At this moment, Guo Dong was driving along the road home, brimming with excitement.
Meng Yingcai, having consumed a bit of alcohol, had grown much more talkative.
He had unceremoniously chased Meng Xiaohan to the back seat to keep Tian Fang company, while he himself claimed the front passenger seat.
Chattering away all the way, his mouth practically never stopped moving.
As he talked, he suddenly pointed toward the rearview mirror.
"Guo Dong, don't you think that car behind us is a bit strange?"
"What's wrong?" Guo Dong glanced back, noticing nothing out of the ordinary.
"It seems to have been following us the whole way. I noticed this car ever since we left the hotel!"
