Volume One, Chapter Four: The Frenzy of Hoarding (Part One)
After carefully placing the Golden Retriever’s eggs in a safe spot, Yu Yue teleported out of the Peach Garden space and put her clothes back on. Her original clothes had become too tight for her now.
Having suffered abuse from Zhang Meifeng’s family since childhood, she had rarely eaten her fill. Later, when she was taken back into the Yu family, the first time she sat down at the table, she was looked down upon for not eating in a ladylike manner, dismissed as poor and petty.
The more she was ridiculed, the more timid she became, gradually developing an aversion to eating. Her anorexia had crept up on her unnoticed.
By adulthood, her height had stalled at 158 centimeters, and her slight, frail frame made her look even less attractive.
Who would believe she was the genuine daughter of the Yu family, a noble lineage radiant even amid the apocalypse?
Though the scarcity of food in the post-apocalyptic world inadvertently cured her anorexia, what kindness could she expect from a biased family?
Only those neglected compressed biscuits ever landed on her plate. Until she was locked away in the laboratory, she remained small and fragile, hardly resembling a powerful psychic.
Ha, shining by feeding off her own blood and sweat?
Yu family, without my help in this early apocalypse of this lifetime, let's see how you survive in your so-called splendor.
Now that the tables had turned, Yu Yue would never allow herself to be mistreated again.
Opening the shopping app on her phone, she realized she had one month left and needed to prepare swiftly for the apocalypse.
Scrolling through the listings—drinking water, toilet paper, vegetables, meat, fruits, canned food, pre-made dishes… even generators and other large equipment caught her eye.
Though the Yu family had always looked down on her, they provided a generous monthly allowance.
When Yu Yue and Yu JiaoJiao reached adulthood, to appear fair, each was gifted a luxurious villa in a prime location along with four or five storefronts.
Yu Yue recalled she still had about twenty million in her bank card. As dawn broke, she went straight to the real estate agency.
When she said she intended to sell her villa at twenty percent below market price, the agent was incredulous and asked several times.
“Miss, are you sure you want to sell all these properties at such a low price? Not to mention the villa’s prime location and potential for appreciation, just the rent from your storefronts brings in substantial income annually. Have you really thought this through?”
“Yes, handle it as you see fit.”
Yu Yue’s gaze was cool. Such a loss was insignificant to her now; her goal was to quickly amass large funds.
The agent couldn’t understand her behavior, suspecting her to be another reckless rich kid cashing out. Out of professional duty, he warned her once.
Seeing the girl’s firm resolve and guided by the principle of not leaving money on the table, the agent decisively took the deal. After evaluation, 300 million was promptly transferred into Yu Yue’s account.
Staring at the nine-digit figure in her account, Yu Yue smiled genuinely for the first time since her rebirth.
With 320 million in hand, she now had the confidence to purchase abundant supplies for surviving the apocalypse.
After handling the property sale, Yu Yue asked the agent to help rent a large warehouse on the outskirts, using the excuse of starting a big supermarket business.
The agent’s look was complicated.
There’s a saying: “Not afraid of rich kids wasting their lives, but afraid of them being overly ambitious.”
He felt he was already witnessing the scene of this young lady eventually losing everything and being scolded mercilessly by her family.
But for now, she was his golden goose. Luckily, he had a suitable warehouse available and cheerfully drove Yu Yue to inspect it.
Yu Yue was very satisfied after seeing the warehouse. It was secluded, spacious, exactly what she needed.
After negotiating the price and signing the contract, she paid a 40,000 deposit plus six months’ rent, then asked the agent to drive her to Jiangcheng’s largest grain wholesale market.
Still under the pretense of opening a large supermarket, Yu Yue visited several rice and grain stores, buying tons and tons of stock.
“Northeast rice, pearl rice, fragrant rice, glutinous rice, black rice, purple rice, fragrant rice, plus high-gluten, medium-gluten, low-gluten, and whole wheat flour—one hundred tons of each. Cooking oil, soy sauce, vinegar, oyster sauce, salt—five thousand boxes of each…”
Dozens of shop owners gathered around her. They’d been doing business at this wholesale market for over a decade but had never met such a wealthy customer.
At first, they doubted this young girl’s ability to pay for such vast quantities, but when she flashed her black card and paid with ease, tens of thousands poured into their accounts repeatedly. Even after she left, they were still amazed.
Leaving the oil and grain market, Yu Yue took a taxi to another farmers’ market.
“Chicken, duck, fish, pork, beef, lamb, all kinds of eggs, cabbage, corn… apples, oranges, mangoes… all thirty tons each, plus star anise, fennel… I want five thousand boxes of every spice.”
Besides these, Yu Yue also bought out a seed store specializing in vegetables and fruits, as well as several other shops selling various crops and fertilizers.
With the Peach Garden space at her disposal, she naturally wouldn’t waste it. After gathering the necessary supplies, she planned to try growing these crops herself.
After half a day, Yu Yue felt like a merciless card-swiping machine. Her card balance dropped by nearly a hundred million, but her heart brimmed with security and satisfaction.
Arrangements had been made with the shop owners to deliver all goods free of charge to the suburban warehouse.
As dusk fell, Yu Yue planned to transfer today’s purchases into her Peach Garden space early the next morning.
Just as she returned to her apartment building, a sudden dizziness swept over her head, followed by a rumbling in her stomach.
Only now did she realize that since her rebirth, aside from a few sips of spirit spring water during her marrow cleansing, she had barely eaten anything.
Those two years of food scarcity and another two years surviving on nutrient solutions in the lab had made hunger her constant companion.
Her thoughts stirred, and Yu Yue recalled memories of delicious food—braised pork, sweet and sour ribs, cakes, crayfish…
She immediately turned toward the bustling food street opposite her building and found a popular barbecue restaurant from memory.
Inside, she ordered over a thousand yuan worth of skewers. The owner repeatedly asked if she really intended to eat so much by herself.
The fragrant aroma of the smoky fire filled Yu Yue’s nostrils. As the cumin’s scent spread across her taste buds, a warm liquid welled up in her eyes.
Neither the bone-deep hatred nor the joy of rebirth had ever brought tears to Yu Yue’s eyes, but now, truly tasting the flavor of food, she finally felt alive again.
