Chapter 44 Feeling Insecure
In the end, the matter of forcing Li Chuxi to relinquish her role was dropped without any resolution.
Li Chuxi did not care in the least and simply left the company.
Inside the conference room—
"General Manager, are we really just going to let this go?" Yao Ling asked, deeply unreconciled. "Leaving this role in Li Chuxi's hands is nothing more than a waste. You've seen her acting skills yourself; even if she ends up starring in it, she'll only attract hate."
Liu Shangshang kept her head lowered beside Yao Ling, remaining silent and looking somewhat aggrieved. However, if anyone were to catch a glimpse of her expression at that moment, they would likely be startled. The malice lurking deep within her eyes was almost spilling over.
By this time, Li Ronghao's face had already resumed its usual amiable smile. "Yao Ling, I completely understand how you feel, but the company simply cannot afford that exorbitant penalty for breach of contract. Or perhaps... are you planning to pay that penalty for Li Chuxi out of your own pocket?"
At the mere mention of the astronomical breach-of-contract fee, Yao Ling was instantly struck dumb, left completely speechless.
Li Ronghao reached out and patted Yao Ling on the shoulder. "Yao Ling, don't dwell on it too much. There's simply no way Li Chuxi is going to hand over this role now."
At this, he could not help but let out a sigh. "Ah, speaking of which, I really am worried! Li Chuxi is already weighed down by scandals. If any other incidents blow up right now, who knows if Director Chen will hold her accountable in the end? Having signed an artist like her really brings a mountain of trouble!"
After offering a few more words of lament, Li Ronghao stood up and left. As the General Manager of the company, he still had plenty of matters demanding his attention.
Yao Ling did not leave immediately; a flicker of deep contemplation crossed her eyes.
Liu Shangshang's thoughts stirred slightly, though she remained silent.
Having left the company, Li Chuxi's mood was completely unaffected. She called out in her mind, "Zero-Zero-Yao, how come you haven't issued any missions lately?"
It wasn't that she desperately craved tasks, but the fact that Zero-Zero-Yao hadn't issued a single mission up until now left her feeling somewhat unsettled.
It felt as though it was brewing some massive scheme behind the scenes.
"I don't know either!" Zero-Zero-Yao replied, its tone tinged with a trace of perplexity. "I think it's way too slow too. So far, we only have five points in total."
It was even more anxious than Li Chuxi. After all, it needed those points to eventually materialize into a physical form.
"If there aren't any, then so be it." Li Chuxi shrugged indifferently. "Living a quiet, peaceful life like this isn't half bad either!"
With nothing pressing on her hands, Li Chuxi felt she could go out and properly enjoy a shopping spree.
Show her a woman who didn't love shopping, and she'd show you an exception—and Li Chuxi was naturally no different. Of course, she took the time to meticulously dress up and disguise herself beforehand.
Right now, Director Chen's new drama, Imperial Authority, had just announced its cast, and she was the subject of massive controversy. If she were recognized out on the street right now, it certainly wouldn't be a good thing. Even if she wouldn't end up getting pelted with rotten eggs, it still wouldn't be pleasant.
After a thorough disguise, Li Chuxi also restrained her presence, making herself blend into the background so she appeared thoroughly ordinary.
She headed straight into an upscale shopping mall and made a beeline for the luxury boutiques.
However, much to her surprise, no sooner had she stepped into Hermès than she caught sight of someone she hadn't expected to see—Li Xuehui.
Li Xuehui appeared to have come with a friend; the two of them were browsing through handbags inside the store.
Li Chuxi paid it no mind and walked right inside.
