Chapter Twelve: The Old Mansion
Hearing Linglingyao’s praise, Zhong Nianyao did not feel pleased at all. She snorted coldly and said, “No need to flatter me here. I still remember how you tricked me out of my points!”
Immediately, Linglingyao fell silent.
Li Chuxi had been about to say something, but at that moment, her phone suddenly rang. She took out her phone, glanced at the flashing name on the screen, and a sarcastic smile curled at the corner of her lips.
Without hesitation, she answered the call. Listening to the voice on the other end, the sarcasm on her face deepened.
In the end, she only replied, “Alright, I understand. I’ll be there right away.”
“Host, where are you going?” Linglingyao, who had been silent, couldn’t help but ask.
Though it was Li Chuxi’s system, it usually only knew what Li Chuxi allowed it to know. Otherwise, it remained in the dark.
Li Chuxi did not answer. She walked out of the company at a leisurely pace and hailed a taxi.
Seeing her refusal to respond, Linglingyao dared not press further.
First, Li Chuxi now knew that it had secretly used her points to upgrade before. Second, having spent so many years together, Linglingyao understood her temperament well—if she didn’t want to say, no amount of questioning would yield an answer.
Soon, the taxi drove Li Chuxi to a luxury villa district.
The taxi driver kept sneaking glances at her through the rearview mirror, as if trying to glean something about her.
It was his first time driving someone to such a wealthy neighborhood. After all, the residents here all had their own drivers and would never take an old, beat-up taxi like his.
He was curious about who this young lady was and why she had come here. Most notably, she wore large sunglasses that obscured her face.
Dressed so mysteriously and arriving at a place like this, it all seemed very strange.
As if unaware of the driver’s many glances, Li Chuxi sat calmly in the back seat, absorbed in her phone.
Originally, she had no plans to disguise herself. She only considered that although the soul from another world had a poor reputation in the entertainment industry, that notoriety had made her widely known. After all, any publicity, even negative, was still publicity.
Finally, the taxi stopped in front of a stately villa.
Without a word, Li Chuxi paid the fare and stepped out.
She noticed the driver’s hesitating expression but didn’t feel the need to explain anything.
After getting out, she walked straight to the doorbell and pressed it.
Soon, an elderly man who looked like a butler appeared. After bowing slightly, he respectfully said, “Miss Chuxi, you’ve returned. Master is waiting for you.”
Li Chuxi nodded and entered without hesitation.
This was no ordinary place—it was the ancestral home of the Li family. The person who had summoned her was none other than the head of the Li family, her grandfather—Li Chongguang.
Li Chongguang held the reins of the entire Li clan, while her father, Li Kunjie, was the youngest son. Above him were two elder brothers and a sister—Li Chuxi’s two uncles and an aunt.
