Volume One, Chapter Four: Sorry, She Has No Experience...
Wasn’t He Yancheng supposed to be a gynecologist at the People’s Hospital? How did he also have another identity... the president of the He Group?
She suddenly remembered what her parents had told her back then: He Yancheng had found his biological parents. So his real parents were actually this wealthy. Was that the reason he had gone ten years without contacting their family? The gap between rich and poor?
Ji Yao was clearly taken aback by He Yancheng’s identity.
By contrast, He Yancheng seemed exceptionally calm about her arrival, as though he had expected it all along, showing no emotion at all.
It was Ji Yao who kept forcing down the storm in her heart, extending a hand to greet him politely.
“Hello...”
His hand was broad and long, and when theirs touched, her fingertips felt faintly cool.
Seeing that unnatural movement, Xie Huaijin was disgusted to the core, but in order not to undermine himself, he still offered an explanation.
“Mr. He, I’m sorry. My wife has little experience with social etiquette. If she offends you in any way later, I hope you’ll be generous.”
When He Yancheng shed the white coat and changed into a suit, his figure looked especially handsome. Leaning back in his chair, he seemed to think of something, and the corner of his thin lips lifted slightly.
“In what way?”
What did he mean, in what way?
Xie Huaijin did not understand him at all, and he did not dare ask directly for fear of looking stupid.
Even so, He Yancheng still saw through his foolish expression, speaking with unhurried composure: “There are many kinds of social interaction. Which kind exactly does she lack experience in?”
A flash of surprise crossed the depths of Xie Huaijin’s eyes. Why was He Yancheng so interested in his wife?
When Xie Huaijin looked at Ji Yao, his gaze turned measuring, studying her twice over.
“Please forgive the joke, Mr. He. My wife rarely goes out to meet people. Of course, I also hope she socializes more, but she’s a wage slave and doesn’t like going out. If I had to say what she lacks experience in, then I suppose it would be everything.”
Ji Yao had expected Xie Huaijin to lie right in front of her, but she had not expected that in his heart, she would turn out to be such a useless person!
As if struck on a raw nerve, she was not even thirsty, yet she unconsciously picked up the lemon water on the table and drank it to steady herself.
He Yancheng’s large hand rested on the table. His fingers were broad and long, the joints distinct. The mechanical watch at his cuff was clearly priceless, and the steady tick of the dial seemed almost loud enough to stab her ears.
“Could it be that the problem is actually yours?”
Xie Huaijin stared blankly. “Huh?”
What could be wrong with him?
Only Ji Yao understood those words.
He Yancheng’s low, powerful voice rose again. “Being a wage slave is an illness. It needs treatment. Conveniently, I have a friend who can treat it. I can introduce him to you.”
Just as He Yancheng took out his phone, Xie Huaijin knew immediately that this was to add WeChat.
Getting He Yancheng’s WeChat had been entirely unexpected. Whatever his purpose, he was thrilled beyond measure.
Xie Huaijin had just taken out his phone when he glanced at the screen and saw 99-plus barrage messages already flooding in. At once, he put the phone back in his pocket and turned to Ji Yao beside him.
“Wife, my phone’s out of battery. Use yours to add Mr. He on WeChat. Since he’s introducing his friend to you, it’ll save me the trouble of passing it along afterward.”
Whether she added him or he added him was the same; later he could just have her send the contact to him.
Ji Yao’s fingertips went faintly cold at once...
She already had He Yancheng on WeChat. They had added each other long ago and she had never deleted him. She had kept the contact all this time. If she added him now, would she expose herself?
He Yancheng turned to the QR code page and handed the phone to her. She took it and scanned it. Only then did she realize it was not the old phone number. It was a new account. No wonder when she had sent him messages before, she had never received a reply. The old number had been discarded, just as he had been discarded from the position of foster son in her home.
But why was this avatar exactly the same as the one on the previous WeChat account?
While Ji Yao was adding him, Xie Huaijin was also watching her phone every second of the way. When he saw that He Yancheng’s WeChat avatar was a very cute cartoon black cat, completely unlike his temperament, he voiced his confusion.
“Why does Mr. He use this kind of avatar?”
After adding her, He Yancheng put away his phone. When he lifted his gaze again, his face clearly carried the word calm.
“My sister changed it.”
“Didn’t the rumors say you’re an only child, Mr. He? So the rumors are wrong—you have an older sister too?”
The corner of He Yancheng’s lips curved into a graceful line. “In name only.”
For some reason, Ji Yao’s face had grown hot and flushed. Xie Huaijin, however, did not notice it. His attention was entirely on his conversation with He Yancheng.
The rumors said He Yancheng kept his distance from women. It seemed the rumors were complete nonsense. Not only did he not avoid women, he played quite wild. He even liked older women. Who knew whether some rich lady had been keeping him? Thinking of it, he felt a little jealous. If he were ten years younger, he would be the same age as He Yancheng. Forget rich ladies—he would even be able to take in eighteen-year-old girls!
For the entire morning, He Yancheng answered every question during the business meeting. Occasionally his gaze would drift toward her. Fortunately, Ji Yao had a fairly strong constitution; she pretended not to know and sat obediently at the side. Only when Xie Huaijin began signing the contract did she carefully read it beside them. After the signing was done and Xie Huaijin had just finished shaking hands with He Yancheng, he found an excuse to go to the restroom.
Ji Yao noticed something seemed to be happening on Xie Huaijin’s side and also made an excuse to leave. When she was nearly at the restroom entrance, she heard Xie Huaijin on the phone.
“Zhenzhen, how could you be so careless? Is your foot all right? Wait there, I’ll buy medicine and bring it back right away! Before I get back, don’t you dare move around!”
When Xie Huaijin hung up and walked out, Ji Yao instinctively hid. Perhaps he was in too much of a hurry to leave. He did not even bother waiting for her and used the flimsiest excuse that the company had something for him to handle, then left her alone there.
After coming out of the restroom, she returned to her seat and was also preparing to pick up her bag and leave.
He Yancheng’s tall figure stood up, blocking her path. A glint flashed in his eyes—confidence unique to both doctor and businessman.
“Why didn’t you come last night?”
Even she did not know why, but whenever she was in front of He Yancheng, her momentum always dropped by more than half.
“I dialed the wrong number. I thought your number was the lawyer’s.”
Actually, he had guessed it long ago. He only wanted to find a topic to talk to her about.
He Yancheng’s clean, mellow scent drifted into her breathing.
“Since you knew it was me, you were too scared to come?”
Ji Yao clenched her teeth, not even daring to look at him. “No. I just thought there was no need.”
“How was there no need? If you had come last night, I wouldn’t have signed with him today.”
She lifted her eyes, and at last their gazes met.
“Then I should be glad I didn’t go looking for you last night!”
If not for this signing, she would never have known that Xie Huaijin could produce five hundred million and invest with a partner without a moment’s hesitation. Clearly, his net worth was already far beyond just a few hundred million.
He Yancheng’s gaze locked onto hers, carrying a hint of doubt. “Where are you going? I’ll take you.”
“No need. I can take a taxi.”
Just thinking about what had happened at the hospital, and about the misdialed call from last night, made her embarrassed. She also did not want to tell him about what had happened between her and Xie Huaijin.
He Yancheng persisted. In order to give her no chance to escape, he even caught her wrist once.
“I’ll take you.”
That single motion made her reflexively yank her hand away with some force. As she pulled back, she accidentally knocked into the water glass on the table behind her. Lemon water spilled from the cup and onto He Yancheng’s suit pants, soaking them.
“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to! Those pants must be expensive, right? Should I buy you a pair to replace them?”
If the light here had not been so bright, she would not have noticed that the place where his pants were wet happened to be right at the center. The suit pants wrapped his long legs perfectly, and once soaked, they gave his lower body an even more scorching aura, allowing her to see just how powerfully masculine and well-built he was.
She had only stolen a glance, yet it was as if a small drum had begun pounding in her chest, thudding endlessly. Even the blood in her body, tinged with that strange medicine, surged restlessly, as though she might devour him the very next second.
