Chen Bojie leaned back in his office chair, tapping his fingers one by one as he prepared what to say.

Su Qiuyu knocked and entered, glanced at him, and placed a resignation letter on the desk. “Boss, I want to resign.”

Chen Bojie froze for a moment, then immediately picked up the letter and stood up.

“You!”

Su Qiuyu looked at him calmly, her eyes bright and beautiful, unhurried and composed.

No matter how many times Chen Bojie looked at that face, he found it stunning.

She wasn’t the fragile, delicate type that arouses men’s pity; she was radiant, her features sharp and clear, strikingly beautiful without restraint or concern for others, exuding charm and nobility.

Her complexion was fair—not the sterile, technological kind of pale—but a coolness reminiscent of Caucasian skin, combined with the translucence and delicacy typical of East Asians, making her beauty seem as if it was constantly glowing.

This was the epitome of a top-tier beauty. Even if she entered the entertainment industry, her looks alone would make her formidable.

Chen Bojie came over and slapped the resignation letter back into Su Qiuyu’s hands. “I don’t agree!”

“Boss, I insist on leaving.”

“You, you, you!” Chen Bojie paced angrily. “I just scolded you! And you really hand in your resignation! You’ve caused such a big mess, and you just run away? You work half a month and then quit? How will you find a job later? Your resume will look awful!”

Seeing her unmoved, Chen Bojie stopped and pointed at her. “Tell me, after resigning, what do you plan to do? No degrees, no experience, no skills, no money! And you don’t like being in the spotlight—what can you do?”

Su Qiuyu said, “I have hands and feet; I can do anything. Even working in a factory tightening screws is a way to survive.”

“You!” Chen Bojie was fuming. “I’m not trying to kick you out now! Can’t you see I want to keep you?”

Su Qiuyu sincerely said, “Thank you, boss.”

“So, you still want to leave? You have to leave?”

Su Qiuyu nodded.

“You’re going to drive me crazy!”

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and Chen Bojie’s phone rang simultaneously.

Chen Bojie glanced at the glass door and gestured to Lin Jingyi to come in by herself.

He turned to pick up his phone from the desk.

The caller ID softened the anger that had just flared in Chen Bojie’s chest, replacing it with warmth and gentleness.

He answered the phone, walking quickly to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the autumn rain as he spoke gently, “Hello, good evening, General Manager Zhou.”

Lin Jingyi coldly passed by Su Qiuyu, deliberately bumping her shoulder.

Su Qiuyu stood tall at 173 cm, already quite tall among women in Haicheng.

Lin Jingyi was even taller, at 175 cm, making the collision quite forceful.

After placing some documents on the desk, Lin Jingyi didn’t leave immediately. She stood five steps away from Su Qiuyu, arms crossed, staring coldly at her.

Meanwhile, Chen Bojie was bowing and scraping, full of enthusiasm, saying over and over, “Yes, yes,” “Okay, okay,” “No problem,” “General Manager Zhou, you decide.”

Seeing the call dragging on endlessly, Su Qiuyu prepared to go back to packing.

As she turned, Lin Jingyi said, “You really have no respect. The boss asked you to come over, and you just turn and leave?”

Su Qiuyu glanced back with a smile. “Yes. When he picks food, I turn the table; when he sits down, I pull out the chair; when he drives, I take off his tire. I’m just waiting for him to fire me.”

“Then have the guts to say that to the boss’s face!”

Su Qiuyu sneered and walked away.

Suddenly, Lin Jingyi rushed up and grabbed her wrist. “You’re not done yet, are you, Su Xiaowu? This isn’t your family’s company!”

Her grip was strong, catching Su Qiuyu off guard. Su Qiuyu winced in pain and said coldly, “Let go.”

Lin Jingyi tightened her grip and gritted her teeth. “Su Xiaowu, I’m telling you, you don’t deserve to work here! If you’re smart, you’ll resign yourself!”

If it weren’t for her resolve to leave, Su Qiuyu wouldn’t have left just because of these words. Even if Chen Bojie kicked her out, she would cling on stubbornly!

Su Qiuyu repeated, “Let go.”

Lin Jingyi said, “Got it? Have some shame. Don’t be a shameless wretch.”

Su Qiuyu’s brow darkened. Suddenly, she used a clever move to slip out of the grip, though the friction made her skin sting.

Lin Jingyi narrowed her eyes. “Not bad, learned a few tricks? So what? It’s useless! You must get out today!”

Lin Jingyi leaned against the door with arms crossed, eyes filled with the determination to evict Su Qiuyu.

Su Qiuyu took a deep breath.

Fine. No matter how much she disliked Lin Jingyi, their goals were aligned for now.

Su Qiuyu returned to the desk.

Lin Jingyi stared at Su Qiuyu’s slender, tall back, her hatred deepening.

She had been pursuing a man for months and finally succeeded, but this woman was about to ruin everything—the life she dreamed of was being destroyed utterly!

If Su Qiuyu stayed, Lin Jingyi knew her own life would never be peaceful again.

Finally, Chen Bojie finished the call and turned around happily. “Xiaowu! Look at you! I told you you’re useful!”

Su Qiuyu was puzzled. “What?”

Lin Jingyi frowned. “Boss, what use is she?”

“General Manager Zhou isn’t angry! Hahaha! Everything’s been explained! You said you fell by accident! You were set up by a benefactor!”

A cold shiver ran down Su Qiuyu’s spine.

Weren’t they already square? Paid in cash, no loose ends!

Why were they still investigating her?

They had even found her workplace, which meant her photo in the household registry system might have been exposed too.

Her face...

“What’s wrong?” Chen Bojie was startled by her sudden pale expression. “Xiaowu?”

Su Qiuyu felt dizzy. “Boss, I... I still insist on resigning.”

Lin Jingyi raised her eyebrows, thinking she misheard.

She was here to resign?

“Please approve my resignation,” Su Qiuyu’s voice trembled slightly as she tried to steady herself. “I can forgo the past half-month’s salary. Boss, let’s just follow the procedure.”

Chen Bojie laughed. “What are you afraid of? Worried he’ll cause trouble? No! It’s not trouble—he sent me several orders, big ones! The performance credit goes to you! Xiaowu, your bonus this time will be huge! This is only your first month! Who in the industry can beat you with these results, haha!”

Lin Jingyi gritted her teeth and glared at Su Qiuyu’s back.

Disgusting!

Why?

Su Qiuyu showed no excitement or joy. She quietly returned the resignation letter to Chen Bojie, her voice faint like a whisper, “Boss, goodbye.”

After tidying up her things, Su Qiuyu carried a box and walked briskly away.

As she left, she heard Chen Bojie angrily scolding Lin Jingyi in the office.

Su Qiuyu paused, wondering whether to go back and tell Chen Bojie that her resignation had nothing to do with Lin Jingyi.

Then she thought it was unnecessary; Lin Jingyi’s hostility was deep, and she had even squeezed her wrist like that.

Such physical contact in the workplace, if this were a large company, would be grounds for a complaint to HR.

The elevator she waited for was crowded.

As Su Qiuyu stepped inside holding her box, her phone rang from a contact labeled “Aunt Li—Beverage Factory.”

This was Jiang Zifei’s colleague.

A wave of unease rose in Su Qiuyu’s heart. She wedged the box between herself and the elevator wall, answering with one hand.

“Hello, Aunt Li.”

Aunt Li anxiously said, “Oh! You’re Jiang Xiangqin’s daughter, Su Xiaowu, right?”

“Yes, Aunt Li. What’s the matter?”

“Oh no! Something’s happened! Your mother has been taken away! You must report it to the police right away, quickly!”

Su Qiuyu was shocked. “Where? At the factory or outside? Aunt Li, can you report it for me? I’ll rush over now!”

“No, no, I don’t want trouble. You should call the police yourself—it’s not too late! Just a few minutes ago, outside the west gate of our factory, on the road behind Garbage Street. Hurry! You must be quick!”

Aunt Li ended the call.

Su Qiuyu immediately redialed, but the call was rejected after one ring.

She quickly searched her contacts for “Uncle Liu.”

The call didn’t connect.

Su Qiuyu’s face drained of all color.

She was about to dial 110 when she noticed the elevator had reached the first floor. People were leaving, and others were waiting to enter.

Clutching her box tightly, Su Qiuyu stepped out and suddenly saw Xiao Tao entering the lobby with a man, looking sullen.

Lowering her head, Su Qiuyu headed toward the nearby emergency exit to call the police.

Calling the police based solely on Aunt Li’s words was not rash, but this matter could be either minor or grave—especially since it involved her and her mother, it could very well be a life-or-death situation.
