Chapter 9: A Resounding Slap to the Face!
Page 1/3
In Mengmeng Yu’s eyes, this scene only confirmed her belief that Lingxiao Duan was a coward. His woman was being insulted so shamelessly, yet he endured it quietly, willing to be a shrinking turtle! Truly, a coward’s mother opens the door for a coward—pathetic to the extreme!
“I heard you’re chained at the Lu family’s gate as a watchdog. I envy you—free meals and lodging every day, just like a government job,” she sneered mockingly. “Looks like having a dead brother is a blessing; it brings a stable life!”
A scornful disdain flashed across Mengmeng Yu’s eyes. She envied Mengxue Xiao—her brother was a renowned military general, and she herself was the belle of the class, adored by the boys. But now? Mengxue’s brother was dead, the Xiao family had fallen into decline, and she herself had become an ugly hag.
Deep inside, Mengmeng Yu felt an unspoken sense of satisfaction.
“That must be the Mengxue Xiao who was dumped by the Lu family. No wonder she’s wearing a mask!” someone whispered nearby. “The Lu family is ruthless—breaking off the engagement is one thing, but disfiguring her is another!”
“Well, there’s nothing they could do; haven’t you heard the Lu family has allied with the powerful Han family in the provincial capital? They’ve got wealth and influence, so they do whatever they please!”
The murmurs swirled incessantly, each faint voice digging deeper into Mengxue Xiao’s pale face. Her fingers clenched tightly at the hem of her clothes, lips trembling, tears welling at the corners of her eyes. Her clear gaze reflected boundless sorrow, yet she held back the tears.
She had grown accustomed to such insults and humiliations over the past five years.
“Crying already? Did I say something wrong? You think you’re still the Mengxue Xiao you used to be? You’re nothing but a dog now. Or maybe you’re a cursed star who killed your own brother, huh…” Mengmeng Yu’s voice was like needles, each word stabbing mercilessly.
The more familiar the person, the better they know where your pain lies and where to stab the knife.
“You...” Mengxue Xiao’s fragile body trembled violently, her eyes flickering like a candle in the wind, ready to be extinguished at any moment.
At that moment, Lingxiao Duan moved swiftly—a fleeting shadow—and slapped Mengmeng Yu across the face.
Smack!
Teeth flew from her mouth, blood spurted, and she was brutally sent flying backwards, crashing onto the hall floor like a dead dog.
“My sister is something you lowlife can insult? Do you think I’m giving you face?” Lingxiao Duan’s eyes turned fierce, filled with murderous intent.
If the seven great villains were here, they would know that Lingxiao had already decided to kill.
Inside the Zero Prison, besides the seven villains, there were countless ruthless fiends. Lingxiao’s combat skills were honed through fights with these desperados. Killing was as easy for him as drinking water.
“Ahhh!” Mengmeng Yu screamed sharply, blood spurting like a fountain from her mouth. “Husband, he hit me! He hit your little baby!”
“Stinky brat, how dare you touch my woman?” a greasy man growled fiercely, his belly trembling with rage. “Do you know who I am?”
“Whoever you are, if you dare insult my sister, you’ll pay the price!” Lingxiao Duan’s indifferent gaze made the greasy man shudder, as if stared down by a monstrous abyssal dragon, every hair on his body standing on end in terror.
The commotion drew the attention of others in the Shennong Hall. The place fell into deadly silence.
“Who the hell is this guy?”
“How dare he cause trouble and hit someone in Shennong Hall?”
“Shennong Hall has deep connections; they won’t let this slide!”

Everyone turned to Lingxiao Duan, utterly shocked. They hadn’t expected him to start a fight here!
Previously, troublemakers in Shennong Hall had their legs broken and were thrown out on the spot. Was this about to happen again?
“You little bastard, how dare you hit my woman! You’re looking for death! I’m helping that ugly hag out of charity, don’t think I like messing with ugly sluts!”
“Get down on your knees and apologize right now, or I’ll show you why flowers bloom so red today!” the greasy man snarled, waving his hand arrogantly. He looked certain of victory.
He was huge, like a bear, and trained in sumo, wrestling, and martial arts. He cracked his knuckles menacingly, confident he could knock out ten of Lingxiao’s size with a single punch.
Without expression, Lingxiao stepped forward calmly.
“You’d better die!” the greasy man’s eyes flashed coldly as he threw a powerful punch at Lingxiao’s face.
“Heh heh heh! Kid, feel the warmth of my blazing iron fist!” the man grinned like a deranged fiend, eager to tear Lingxiao apart and splash blood everywhere.
The surrounding crowd watched silently, some too scared to even look.
But Lingxiao reached out and grabbed the greasy man’s fist, stopping it cold.
“Still dare to hit me, you reckless fool!” the man sneered, increasing the force of his punch, confident enough to break Lingxiao’s arm.
But the next moment, his face changed drastically.
Lingxiao’s grip was like superglue, holding his fist tightly. Then suddenly, Lingxiao exerted a tremendous force, shaking his arm and swinging the greasy man up into the air.
“Holy crap!” the man yelled, feeling like a pendulum at an amusement park, soaring high in a wild arc.
Then, Lingxiao released his grip.
Thud!
The greasy man crashed heavily onto a tempered glass table in the hall.
Crash!
The glass shattered loudly. The man felt a massive impact on his chest, spewed blood, ribs broken, his face pale as a corpse.
The hall was silent.
Everyone stared at Lingxiao in stunned disbelief.
“Damn, that skill is too fierce!”
“This guy must be a martial artist!”
“Damn! He... he’s killed someone!” the woman in a qipao who had led them here screamed sharply.
The greasy man weighed over two hundred pounds, like a fat pig, yet he was thrown over ten meters away. It was unbelievable.
What’s more, no one saw how Lingxiao moved; it seemed all done in an instant.
Lingxiao stood with his hands behind his back, like a towering pine—calm, as if he had done something utterly trivial.

“How could this be?” Mengmeng Yu’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Clap clap clap!
Lingxiao’s expression remained calm as he approached the greasy man, looking down at him from above.
“You little bastard, what do you want? I’m Wang Defa, general manager of Niuma Construction Group. Who do you think you are?”
“If you dare touch a single finger of mine, I guarantee no one in Jiangnan City can save you!” Wang Defa screamed in panic, his pain making him grimace.
“Husband, are you okay? Mengxue, tell your dog-man to stop, or if you offend my husband, be ready to spend the rest of your lives behind bars!” Mengmeng Yu shouted sharply as she saw the situation spiraling out of control.
Mengxue Xiao looked at Lingxiao anxiously, not wanting him to keep drawing trouble because of her.
“Don’t worry,” Lingxiao said with a faint smile.
He then stepped in front of the greasy man.
“What do you want? I... I’ll back down, okay?” Wang Defa cried out in terror. He was panicked and overwhelmed by Lingxiao’s aura, barely able to raise his head, feeling a sharp pain in his groin—yes, both sides hurt.
“I’ll give you a chance. Right now, call for help! Call as many people as you can to come rescue you!” Lingxiao said calmly, stepping on Wang Defa’s pudgy face.
“What??” Wang Defa froze.
Call for help? If he did, this little bastard would surely be finished.
As general manager of Niuma Construction Group, he had countless thugs and bodyguards. Everyone knew construction companies often dealt with violent evictions. Wang Defa’s men were ruthless.
So why on earth did this little punk want to die?
“Don’t you understand what I’m saying?” Lingxiao raised his brows.
“Fine, fine! I’ll call right now!” Wang Defa trembled as he pulled out his phone and dialed.
“Mengxue Xiao, you ugly hag, you finally got a boyfriend, but it’s about to end! He’s going to die horribly!” Mengmeng Yu spat blood, her voice thick with venom.
“You could have just knelt and apologized, but you’ve injured us and now have the nerve to call for help? Haha... you have no idea how powerful Niuma Construction Group is!”
“That’s none of your business!” Mengxue Xiao replied coldly, though worry was clearly visible in her eyes. She couldn’t help much.
“Now you’re scared? Haha, too late!” Mengmeng Yu seethed with hatred. Since linking up with Wang Defa, everyone treated her with respect. She had never suffered such humiliation. When the group’s bodyguards arrived later, she planned to slap this couple hundreds of times.
“What’s going on? Who’s causing trouble in my Shennong Hall?”
Just then, a handsome young man in a black Armani trench coat and gold-rimmed glasses strolled over with a smile, breaking the silence.
Behind him followed an elderly man in casual Tang-style clothing, walking steadily with an imposing aura.
