Nannan lowered her head, staring at the scattered puzzle pieces on the floor, tears trickling down her cheeks. Shuya quickly pulled Nannan behind her to shield her.
“Fu Yichen, what madness are you up to now?”
Fu Yichen sneered coldly, “What did I say that’s wrong? What’s the use of this puzzle? She…”
Shuya cut him off, “If anything is useless, it’s not the puzzle—it’s you, as a father! I’m telling you, if you dare say a single wrong word about Nannan again, get out immediately!”
Fu Yichen stared at Shuya in disbelief.
Shuya dared tell him to get lost?
Was she trying to turn the world upside down?
Shuya ignored him and knelt down, wiping away Nannan’s tears.
Every wipe brought a pang of pain to her own heart.
“Don’t cry, baby. Don’t cry. Let’s just ignore him. You go upstairs first, and later Mom will help you put the puzzle back together, alright?”
Nannan’s eyes were red, but she nodded, “Okay.”
Then she went upstairs, looking back several times at her father.
She couldn’t understand why her father was different from other fathers. Other kids’ dads would care for them, but hers only scolded her.
Seeing this scene, Shuya’s heart twisted painfully.
Once Nannan was upstairs, Fu Yichen could no longer hold back and spoke with disdain.
“Your daughter will be spoiled by you sooner or later! Forget it, I don’t even want to talk to you about this. I heard you’re ill, so you definitely won’t be going to Mrs. Zhou’s private party. Give me the invitation; I’ll have someone else go.”
Shuya snorted coldly, “Who do you want to send?”
Fu Yichen’s tone was impatient, “Just bring it here when I tell you to. Why so many words?”
Shuya knew exactly.
Fu Yichen wanted to send Shen Qingzhu.
Though she no longer loved Fu Yichen, she had given six years of herself, only to end up like this—her heart filled with resentment and self-pity.
Shuya took the invitation from her bag and sneered, “Fine. The invitation costs two hundred thousand yuan. Bank transfer only.”
Fu Yichen’s fury exploded, “You want two hundred thousand yuan for one invitation? Shuya, are you crazy?”
“Yes, I am crazy.”
Shuya looked at Fu Yichen and laughed.
“If I weren’t crazy, how could I marry you?”
“Fu Yichen, have you forgotten? When I married into your family, your family fortune was almost completely squandered by your father. Only a hollow company remained, drowning in debt. Your mother had a brain hemorrhage from the stress and was admitted to the ICU.”

“You were the one who knelt and begged me to give up my career to take care of your family.”
“When your mother was paralyzed and you couldn’t afford a caregiver, I was the one who cared for her—helping with everything. Because of my care, she can live like a normal person now! And when you drank yourself into alcohol poisoning at those project dinners, I took care of you day and night!”
“How much have I sacrificed in these six years? And what have I gained?!”
Fu Yichen’s face darkened as he recalled those days.
Those were his darkest times.
When his family went bankrupt, the women were so pragmatic they wouldn’t marry him. Of course, he had to deceive Shuya into marrying him—a free wife to care for his semi-paralyzed mother and save on caregiver expenses.
Besides, wasn’t it a woman’s duty to care for her mother-in-law and serve her husband?
Yes, she had invested time and energy, but she had been living off the family for years, feeding off him. Had he ever complained?
He had done more than enough for Shuya!
“Stop nitpicking this nonsense. Are you done? I said I just want the invitation. Bring it here.”
Fu Yichen was furious.
Shuya smiled mockingly, “I said twenty thousand.”
“You!”
“Thirty thousand!”
“Thirty thousand? You…”
“Forty thousand, or else!”
This crazy woman!
Fu Yichen took out his phone, gritted his teeth, and transferred twenty thousand.
Shuya accepted the money and handed over the invitation.
Having the invitation made Fu Yichen happy but angry at Shuya. To him, her things were his by right; if he wanted the invitation, Shuya should give it without fuss. Instead, she demanded twenty thousand!
That sum could buy Qingzhu a bag.
“Shuya, if I’d known you were gold-digging, I’d never have married you! Luckily, Qingzhu is different. She can earn her own money and won’t be a parasite like you!” Fu Yichen threw the blame back at her.
Shuya laughed bitterly.
Qingzhu capable? If she were, how could she not get an invitation?
Fu Yichen stormed out of the house.
Outside, he took several deep breaths to suppress his anger.
He looked at the invitation in his hand.
With this, Qingzhu could enter the circle of the “rich wives.”
Qingzhu had a good personality and ability—far better than Shuya. If Shuya could charm those wives so well, Qingzhu could surely do better.
Once Qingzhu made friends with those wives, Shuya would be useless.
…
Inside the house.
Shuya looked at the closed door and sneered.
That morning, she had deliberately said those things to Chen Ma, knowing she would tell Shen Qingzhu, who would then instruct Fu Yichen to snatch the invitation.
She purposely baited Qingzhu to steal the invitation.
Being a rich wife was not so easy.
With Qingzhu’s temperament, how could she stand it?
She wanted Fu Yichen to witness how Qingzhu would ruin everything.
—
A few days later.
At the villa at the foot of the mountain, lights gleamed brightly, illuminating the place.
Shuya wore a beige thin sweater and a khaki autumn-winter long skirt, gentle and refined as she stepped through the villa’s gates.
She wanted the invitation—more than one copy, if possible.
She found a quiet corner to wait for Shen Qingzhu.
Soon, she heard a commotion at the door.
She turned to look.
At the entrance stood a woman dressed in a luxurious haute couture autumn-winter black gown, paired with a striking leather jacket—cool and fierce. Her delicate features and sharp short hair exuded rebellion.
That face…
It was Shen Qingzhu.
Upon seeing that face, Shuya was instantly reminded of the car accident before her rebirth—Shen Qingzhu had driven recklessly toward her, her face filled with unmasked malice and a cruel smile.
That accident!
It had caused Nannan’s bloody death!
Seeing Shen Qingzhu again in this life, an intense hatred surged through Shuya’s entire being, nearly consuming her.
She restrained herself, biting her palm to avoid losing control right there.
