Chapter 7: I Tell You This Is Chinese Kung Fu—Do You Believe Me? (Please Keep Reading! Please Save!)
“Uh… no, not yet… actually, I’m not sure either.”
Zheng Zha’s expression was unbearably stiff. Bound by the main god’s restrictions, he could not reveal the existence of the laser channel or the zombies. At Matthew’s question, he momentarily became incoherent.
“Heh, not sure, huh.”
Matthew regarded him meaningfully, sneering coldly. “Good. Since you can’t say, then… you, and you,” he pointed to Zheng Zha and the ill-fated freight driver, Mou Gang, just as in the original story, “will come with us into the channel.”
“No! I don’t want to! I don’t want to go in!!”
Both men turned pale. Mou Gang was in a breakdown, clutching his head and shouting as he tried to run out of the room.
Seeing this, a sharp gleam flashed in Matthew’s eyes. Without his command, the other mercenaries instinctively raised their guns, aiming and firing at Mou Gang without hesitation.
Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!
In the next moment, the metallic clangs echoed one after another. Zheng Zha and the others, who had instinctively crouched and covered their heads in fear, now looked dumbfounded, their half-raised hands making the scene appear almost comical.
The mercenaries, led by Matthew, were no better off—each wide-eyed, as if witnessing something unbelievable.
“Captain Matthew, attacking my people like this is a bit too much, isn’t it?”
A nearly two-meter-long ebony iron rod spun elegantly in the air before Wu Xian slung it behind his back and smiled gently at Matthew and the others. The smile was soft but made the mercenaries feel as if facing a formidable enemy.
Behind Wu Xian, Mou Gang sat dazed on the ground, patting himself all over, finding no wounds. He exhaled in relief, drenched in sweat, looking as if he had just been pulled from water.
“Y-You… how did you just do that?!”
Matthew gripped his submachine gun tighter, swallowing nervously as he asked in a dry tone.
Just moments ago, the mercenaries had unleashed a hail of fire on the fleeing Mou Gang, intending to turn him into a mosaic of bullets as a warning to the Zhongzhou team.
But at that moment, Wu Xian suddenly stepped before Mou Gang, producing a black iron rod from nowhere.
Then, with a few relaxed, graceful swings, golden sparks exploded in the air as he effortlessly blocked every bullet fired at them.
Blocking bullets with a stick? What kind of fantasy movie plot is this?
Don’t tell me this is Chinese kung fu—I’ve watched Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee films; nothing this absurd ever happened!
“If I told you it was Chinese kung fu, would you believe me?”
Wu Xian said this, noticing Matthew and the others’ sullen faces, and shrugged: “Alright, just kidding. Actually, I’m an evolved being recently developed by the company. Blocking bullets is one of my abilities. You can think of it as super senses and super speed combined with a sturdy weapon. Blocking bullets isn’t that hard.”
“An evolved being…”
Hearing Wu Xian’s explanation, Matthew and the others hadn’t reacted much, but the heroine Alice seemed intrigued, casting a curious gaze at Wu Xian.
“Do you have any proof? Also, have you recovered your memories? What exactly is in that channel?”
Matthew’s eyes narrowed, his finger still on the trigger—a clear threat.
“Sorry, company secrets. I can’t say.”
“Tell me!!” Matthew shouted angrily.
“Sigh… what’s the point?” Wu Xian sighed, then vanished in an instant.
Matthew’s pupils contracted sharply. He pressed the trigger, but just as the gunshot rang out, a sharp pain shot into his abdomen, and he was blasted backward like a shell.
During this, he only caught a glimpse of a black shadow moving swiftly before his eyes.
In the blink of an eye, his teammates soon followed suit—some falling backward, others flying off like sandbags.
Except for Kaplan, the computer specialist, everyone lay groaning on the ground, clearly incapacitated from fighting.
Bang!!
Matthew crashed against a metal wall with a dull roar, head spinning. A moment later, he felt a cold touch pressed against his throat.
Looking up, he saw Wu Xian, the security captain, still smiling at him. But the smile never reached his eyes, sending chills down Matthew’s spine.
“See this? This is proof. If I wanted to kill you all, I could do it anytime. No need to lie to you, got it?”
“U-understood!” Matthew lowered his gaze, unwilling to let Wu Xian see the hatred and fear in his eyes.
“Let go of the captain!”
Everything happened too quickly. After all teammates had fallen, Kaplan, sitting before three computers, finally snapped to attention and tried to draw his sidearm to shoot.
At that moment, the previously terrified Mou Gang roared and lunged forward, pinning Kaplan to the ground, immobilizing him.
As a freight driver who sometimes doubled as a mover, Mou Gang had surprising strength. Kaplan, a semi-administrative staff trained but not physically superior to Mou Gang, struggled to break free.
Seeing this, the Zhongzhou team gradually awoke. Led by Zheng Zha, each picked up fallen weapons and aimed at the mercenaries, finally showing some semblance of teamwork.
“Well, not bad…”
Wu Xian raised an eyebrow, then suddenly looked up and shouted toward the ceiling:
“Red Queen, come out and talk. I have a deal to discuss.”
Silence. No one answered.
“So cold, huh? In that case, the bomb I installed in the Hive earlier might just go off.”
Wu Xian’s lips curled faintly as he continued, “Little Red Queen, I’m sure you don’t want the secrets hidden here to be exposed, right?”
Sizzle—
An electric current hummed.
A semi-transparent figure of a girl in red appeared midair.
“Who exactly are you?”
A clear yet emotionless voice sounded. Under the stunned gazes of all, the semi-transparent red-clad girl looked curiously at Wu Xian and asked:
“Though my database contains your identity information, your position shouldn’t grant you such knowledge. Who are you really?”
“Who knows? Maybe FBI or something,” Wu Xian smiled mysteriously, then scowled and ordered the Red Queen:
“Enough talk. If you don’t want the entire Hive blown up, just do as I say. If I’m in a good mood afterward, I might answer your questions.”
“I don’t believe you. I’ve been monitoring you all along; you wouldn’t have had the chance to plant a bomb…”
The Red Queen shook her head, but before she could finish, her semi-transparent face suddenly changed expression.
