Volume One, Chapter Seven: No Matter Who I Meet, I Won't Let Go of Your Hand
Page 1/3
In the middle of the night, someone in the bedroom cautiously peeked out, and seeing no movement, slowly approached the sofa. In a daze, a warm hand touched my face. Opening my eyes, I saw Yunshen Fu gently smiling at me—it was another dream.
“You’re awake!”
Awake? Awake from what?
After a few seconds, my mind cleared instantly. Looking around at the surroundings, my eyes widened in shock. “Did I sleepwalk again?”
Yunshen Fu nodded.
I looked at him reproachfully. “Then why didn’t you wake me?”
“Lu Xiaoyu, you really don’t know common sense. You can’t suddenly wake someone who’s sleepwalking, or you’ll lose your soul.”
I was puzzled. “Is that really a thing?”
“Yeah.”
“Forget about that. Didn’t we agree yesterday to go on a date today? I already planned it out. Get up and get ready; I’ll take you somewhere.”
Seeing the excitement almost overflowing in Yunshen Fu’s eyes, I was a bit puzzled. “Are you really happy to go on a date with me?”
Yunshen Fu frowned. “Aren’t you happy?”
I was stunned. “Happy? Of course I’m happy.”
The truth was, I wasn’t entirely happy because the system gave no hint. If Yunshen Fu were truly happy dating me, wouldn’t the heart-throbbing value have changed? It meant his happiness was fake; he was deceiving me.
After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I planned to change clothes before leaving, but Yunshen Fu hurriedly pulled me away.
“Brother Fu, sister-in-law.”
Fang Yanzhou greeted us. I nodded in response.
The car grew quiet for a moment. Fang Yanzhou glanced at the rearview mirror. He had just gotten a villa and felt compelled to flatter his benefactor.
“Brother Fu, sister-in-law treats you so well. Last night, she even messaged me asking what you like to do!”
I... had a big mouth. Never again would I ask Fang Yanzhou anything. Today, he betrayed me.
Yunshen Fu frowned at me, displeased. “Next time, ask me directly about these things.”
Fang Yanzhou quickly chimed in, “Yeah, that’s what I told sister-in-law yesterday. She even asked me about you...”
“Got it. I’ll ask you directly from now on.”
Before Fang Yanzhou could finish, I interrupted firmly.
A prince of Beijing’s elite circle like Yunshen Fu surely disliked others prying into his private affairs, especially about past girlfriends. It would only make me seem petty and might even cause him to dislike me.
I couldn’t let Yunshen Fu hate me!
“Good. For fairness, you can’t see any other men during our relationship, either.”
Yunshen Fu warned, glancing at Fang Yanzhou, who was driving.
Fang Yanzhou felt wronged. Even if he had eight hundred guts, he wouldn’t dare try to steal Yunshen Fu’s corner!
The car stopped at the mall entrance.
I looked at Yunshen Fu curiously. “First stop for our date?”
Yunshen Fu smiled, lips pressed lightly. “Yes.”
“Have fun, Brother Fu, sister-in-law. I’m off.”
With that, Fang Yanzhou started the car and left.

Just as I was about to enter, a hand suddenly clasped mine, fingers intertwining. I looked at Yunshen Fu in surprise; he smiled calmly. “Boyfriends holding girlfriends’ hands isn’t illegal, right?”
Yunshen Fu’s hand was large and warm. This was my first time holding a man’s hand like this, and a ripple of emotion stirred within me, making me tongue-tied. “N-no... it’s not illegal!”
Receiving my affirmation, Yunshen Fu’s smile grew wider, and with his other hand, he pinched my cheek playfully.
“Xiaoyu, the way your face turns red is so cute! Makes me want to kiss you.”
If he hadn’t said anything, I might have felt less embarrassed, but now my cheek burned fiercely. I probably looked like a blushing monkey.
Yunshen Fu led me into the mall, stopping at a clothing boutique.
“First activity of the date: couples pick out clothes for each other. You choose for me, and I for you.”
His eyes sparkled with pride at his idea.
I went to the men’s section to pick for Yunshen Fu, while he headed to the women’s. Twenty minutes later, we met again.
I was stunned seeing the huge pile of clothes the salesman carried behind Yunshen Fu. “Why did you pick so many?”
Meanwhile, I had only a few outfits.
“I thought they all looked good, so I took them all. Pick a few you really like to try on, I’ll pay.”
Hearing he was paying made me instantly happy. I picked a few and went into the fitting room.
The first outfit I tried was a black Chanel-style autumn-winter suit. It was very flattering, highlighting my figure perfectly. I was quite pleased—seemed Yunshen Fu had good taste.
Yunshen Fu also emerged from his fitting room, wearing a long black trench coat, white sweater underneath, and black wide-leg pants—just like a Korean drama leading man.
Back in high school, I wore a uniform every day. Yunshen Fu managed his company while still a college student, always dressed in mature suits. It was time for a style change, so I chose this Korean-style outfit for him.
Clothes do make the man; Yunshen Fu instantly looked much younger.
“Wow, you two look great together! Perfect couple’s outfits,” the nearby salesman exclaimed.
Yunshen Fu’s lips curved upward. “Of course.”
We tried on several more sets, all satisfactory, so we bought everything. At checkout, the total was one million. I looked at Yunshen Fu, who didn’t even blink before pulling out his card.
Did Yunshen Fu always spend this lavishly on past girlfriends?
“Let’s go!”
Yunshen Fu pulled me to leave. I looked at the pile on the counter. “Aren’t we taking these with us?”
“How can we date carrying all that? I’ll have Fang Yanzhou pick them up later.”
“Oh.”
Turns out rich people don’t carry their own stuff. We were wearing the outfits we first tried on. Yunshen Fu said this set suited today’s date, so he put it on before paying.
As we walked, I spotted someone ahead and immediately pulled my hand away from Yunshen Fu. Still, we were seen.
Lin Li came over in stiletto heels, her gaze shifting back and forth between Yunshen Fu and me. “President Fu, you and Lu Xiaoyu?”
Yunshen Fu frowned, glanced at my freed hand, then grabbed it again, tightening his grip. He scolded, “Don’t let go.”
Me: ???
Seeing us ignore her, Lin Li looked embarrassed but then cast a venomous glare at me. “Lu Xiaoyu, you and President Fu...”
“Director Lin, if your eyesight is poor, go to the hospital’s ophthalmology department for a checkup,” Yunshen Fu said sharply. I was certain Lin Li was furious now.
But I was curious—weren’t they flirting yesterday? Why the sudden coldness today? Maybe Yunshen Fu had discovered Lin Li’s affair with Xiao Wang and now saw her true colors.
“President Fu, how can you say that? I was just being kind, caring about a colleague.”

Lin Li truly lived up to her director title; even when rebuked by her superior, she maintained a pleasant demeanor.
“It’s nothing. My girlfriend and I were just continuing our shopping. Goodbye.”
Yunshen Fu held my hand and bypassed Lin Li with a serious expression, clearly upset.
“Next time, no matter who we meet, don’t ever let go of my hand, got it?”
His dark eyes were filled with displeasure. So he was angry because I let go of his hand, not because of Lin Li.
“I’m talking to you. Did you hear me?”
“Yes.”
“Director Lin said you’re coworkers. Did you work at Fu Corporation before?”
I nodded. After graduation, to stay close to Yunshen Fu, I applied to Fu Corporation. But the threshold was high; if not for my numerous university competitions, I wouldn’t have stood a chance against the master’s degree holders.
“Why have I never seen you there?”
I had worked at Fu Corporation for four months, expecting to see Yunshen Fu. But no, only the top executives got to see him.
“You’re on the top floor, finance is on the third. Of course, you wouldn’t meet.”
“Then keep working at Fu Corporation! How about being my secretary? Double the salary!”
I was pondering when Yunshen Fu added, “I promised to be with you for three months, but I can’t just stay away from the company all that time.”
I knew I was overthinking again. But on the other hand, someone like Yunshen Fu surely liked ambitious, capable people. If I worked hard and showed him my abilities, maybe he’d be moved.
I nodded. “Okay.”
We left the mall, and Yunshen Fu said the next stop was the cinema. Before Fang Yanzhou could pick us up, a sleek black limousine pulled up.
A few men in black stepped out. “Young Master Fu, the old man requests your presence.”
The smile on Yunshen Fu’s face vanished instantly, replaced by a cold glare.
Together, we were taken to the Fu family’s ancestral mansion.
The Fu family estate sat halfway up the mountain. Nearly the entire hillside was Fu family territory—more precisely, everything above the midpoint belonged to them.
The car wound through the mountain roads; I lost count of how many turns we took.
The Fu estate looked like an old wealthy family’s courtyard. In front, many vibrant flowers bloomed. As I wondered if the owner loved gardening, Yunshen Fu seemed to read my mind.
“Don’t touch those flowers. They’re all poisonous.”
His words stunned me. Who plants a whole patch of poisonous flowers by the roadside? What if someone accidentally picked one?
“This is Fu family territory. No one dares come here.”
Yunshen Fu answered my unspoken question again. I looked at him, puzzled. “How do you know what I’m thinking?”
“You wear it all on your face.”
I touched my face. Was it really that obvious?
We reached the courtyard gate and stopped. Yunshen Fu took my hand as we entered, winding through to a particular yard.
Inside, the decor resembled that of a traditional wealthy household—tables and chairs above, more on the sides. A few people sat in the hall.
As I looked around, my gaze suddenly landed on someone who looked exactly like Yunshen Fu. Before I could study him closely, a teacup was thrown in front of me.
Glass shards scattered everywhere. Yunshen Fu’s reflexes were sharp; he shielded me but ended up soaked with tea. If not for him, it would have hit me. This was clearly aimed at me.
His eyes darkened with fierce anger, the temperature around us dropping.
“Why aim at me? Don’t hurt her.”
