Wei Ting, where is your integrity? You once vowed never to marry a thief nor acknowledge a thief as your father. Yet, in the blink of an eye, you broke your promise. Shao Diandian was utterly speechless.

Shao Kang accepted the title of “father” with ease, responding calmly, “Are you hungry? Alright, I’ll go prepare some food.”

“No—” Shao Diandian tried to stop him, but Shao Kang had already turned and left.

After Shao Kang left, Wei Ting’s smile vanished instantly, his expression turning cold and indifferent again.

Shao Diandian’s face darkened. “You did that on purpose!”

Wei Ting glanced at her coolly. “What else? Did you think I truly wished to be your husband?”

Angrily, Shao Diandian clenched her teeth. “If you don’t want this, neither do I! I’ll send you straight to the authorities! Let’s see how arrogant you remain then!”

Wei Ting responded calmly, “The whole village knows we’re married. If I end up in jail, aren’t you worried it will implicate you all?”

What was going on? Had he even been told about the marriage?

Shao Diandian retorted furiously, “What am I afraid of? Go ask around outside if Shao Dayi’s courage ever faltered!”

Wei Ting raised an elegant, arrogant brow. “Is that so? Then who was that crying uncontrollably, hiding inside just now?”

Shao Diandian was speechless.

She firmly declared, “It wasn’t me! I didn’t cry!”

Wei Ting sneered, “Right, it wasn’t you. It was the puppy crying.”

Shao Diandian wanted to bite him!

Wait—he heard her crying. Did that mean he had been awake all along?

She had been changing his bandages and taking his temperature, while he pretended to sleep!

Very well, if you strike first, don’t blame me for retaliating.

Embarrassed to death, huh? Come on, let’s do this together!

Just moments ago, Shao Diandian had looked like an angry little pufferfish, but suddenly she revealed a gentle, charming smile. “Do you think I’m after your good looks?”

Wei Ting laughed sarcastically. “Isn’t that the case?”

“Heh.” Shao Diandian fetched a small brass mirror from her room and swiftly placed it before him.

Wei Ting didn’t understand her meaning but glanced at the mirror out of habit.

Then, he was shocked!

Seeing his thunderstruck expression, Shao Diandian felt delighted.

She left some medicine behind, left the room in high spirits, and couldn’t help but tug at her pants as she went.

Shao Diandian went to the kitchen, deciding to make dinner herself.

She simply couldn’t bear seeing Old Shao and Shao Erdan ruin the kitchen she had painstakingly cleaned.

Neither of them objected; in fact, they were quite agreeable.

Originally, they had pity for their daughter (older sister), but after tasting the meals Shao Diandian cooked, it became hard to swallow anything made by Shao Kang.

Especially at noon when Shao Diandian wasn’t around, the family had to endure another meal prepared by Shao Kang…

The taste was indescribably unpleasant.

Shao Diandian cooked a pot of braised pork, a bowl of tofu with pork intestines, a large bowl of steamed eggs, three small bowls of steamed eggs, stir-fried Chinese cabbage, and a cold shredded radish salad.

Looking at the abundant dishes, Shao Erdan asked in surprise, “Are we celebrating New Year’s?”

No, even New Year’s wasn’t treated this well.

The three children couldn’t wait, drooling as they gathered around the table.

Dinner was eaten in the kitchen.

First, it was warm; second, the kitchen had a low table, and the three children sitting on stools could just reach it.

Knowing Wei Ting needed a light diet, Shao Diandian specially prepared some cabbage and lean pork porridge for him and had Erdan serve him a bowl of steamed eggs.

Only after Erdan returned did the whole family begin to eat.

However, when Shao Kang and Erdan saw the large bowl of tofu with pork intestines, they hesitated.

They had tried it once at a relative’s house, and the taste was unbearable.

“Why won’t you eat it?” Shao Diandian asked curiously.

The three children couldn’t eat it because it was too spicy, but these two usually liked strong flavors.

Reluctantly, Erdan picked up some with his chopsticks, hesitated briefly, then quickly put it into Shao Kang’s bowl. “Father, you try first!”

Shao Kang’s mouth twitched slightly; he took some intestines and put them back in Erdan’s bowl. “You eat, you eat!”

“Big sister eats!” Erdan handed the intestines to Shao Diandian.

“I’m on a diet, so I can’t eat this,” Shao Diandian said.

She paused, then looked at Shao Kang in surprise. “Father, you’re not scared to eat it, are you?”

Shao Kang stammered, “Ho-how could that be?”

Shao Diandian teased, “Then you don’t love me anymore.”

Shao Kang shuddered.

“Haha!”

Shao Diandian’s antics made Shao Kang burst into laughter.

Erdan looked at his sister in confusion, suspecting she’d lost her mind—really, as if her brain had been damaged.

Shao Diandian happily continued eating.

This family was truly amusing.

She had been born into a very strict family in her past life. Her mother was a businesswoman, her father a research professor; one busy with meetings, the other with studies.

The house was always quiet, with only secretaries and maids seen around.

She once thought herself serious.

But it turned out she had a mischievous side, too.

Shao Kang and Shao Erdan eventually ate, and once started, they couldn’t stop, fighting over the last piece of pork intestine.

Shao Diandian mercilessly snatched it away.

“Aren’t you on a diet?”

The two looked at her unhappily.

Shao Diandian shrugged. “I’ve been dieting all day, so I’m rewarding myself. I’ll start again tomorrow.”

She also finished the remaining half-plate of braised pork.

Shao Kang: “…”

Shao Erdan: “…”

After dinner, Shao Diandian cleaned the leftover meat and pork offal, sprinkled salt on them, and hung them on the rack in the backyard.

She didn’t hide how she had money to buy so many things and mentioned having Liu Tongsheng return the bride price.

“Fifteen taels remain; he gave an IOU to return it within three days.”

While helping her dry the meat, Erdan snorted coldly, “Good for him! If he dares to renege, I’ll go to his house and beat him up!”

Shao Diandian washed her hands and took out the clothes she had bought in town.

Since she couldn’t sew, she bought ready-made clothes that needed trying on; if they didn’t fit, she’d go to town tomorrow to alter or exchange them.

“Father, are you there?” Shao Diandian knocked on the door.

“I’m here,” Shao Kang answered.

Shao Diandian pushed open the door. Shao Kang was sitting on a small stool, lighting a dim oil lamp, clumsily mending one of Erdan’s cotton jackets.

The original mother had died early; Shao Kang had to act as both father and mother, mending the family’s torn clothes himself.

Though poorly done and often mocked by villagers.

“What’s up, Big Sister?” Shao Kang asked.

Shao Diandian looked at the rough fingers with several needle pricks and said, “Erdan’s grown, and this jacket is too small now. No need to mend it—I bought him a new one.”

“Oh… okay.” Shao Kang was surprised.

This was the first time Big Sister had bought clothes for Erdan.

Previously, when she went to town, it was always for food or cosmetics for herself.

Shao Kang thought she only came to talk about this, so he set Erdan’s jacket aside and picked up his own worn cotton jacket.

His was the most tattered.

“No need to mend yours either,” Shao Diandian said.

Shao Kang was stunned.

“It’s not very expensive. When we have more money, I’ll buy you something better.”

Looking at the new jacket his daughter handed him, Shao Kang’s eyes reddened.
